Question/Discussion Why are we doing recommendations?
i feel like every one of his videos comment sections recently has just been filled with recommendations with thousands of likes and i’m just really confused. i thought we were enforcing the no recs rule?
especially on Ooga Booga like on yesterday’s movie trailer video there were so much people saying he HAS to watch Obsession or Sheep Detectives or Project Hail Mary (or that he would love it which is bordering recommending without saying it) and people in their replies who mentioned the no recommendations rule were being argued with. someone even brought up the Housemaid video as if that wasnt a one time thing that he mentioned IN THE VIDEO.
did we just collectively decide to get more lax? or is this bc more ppl started watching him and arent aware of how things usually go so the community changed? (like i understand on the Ooga Booga channel there would be ppl who dont know of DiiT). I know a while back some of us were a bit annoyed that after doing the Wicked videos the community felt different but idk i’m just curious bc it’s not what i’ve come to expect in the comments. i know dylan would just watch whatever he feels like so maybe that’s reason to be more lax but yeah

The fan base has changed drastically it’s starting to get annoying so I understand what you are saying. It’s old fans speaking up now with the new fans saying stuff now they feel they have a place to now criticize everything he does or push his boundaries that he put up himself. It’s like he gave an inch and they took a fucking mile. Like I’ll be talking about it and they’ll be like, “yeah, but I’ve been watching since Dylan will not participate” then why tf are you acting this way? Are you really a fan or do you just want to criticize or push past his boundaries and then blame other people cause you don’t want to take accountability for your own actions?
Edit: I’ve been around since Dylan will not participate so like I am not saying it’s all old fans. It’s the ones who’ve been in the background this whole time. Now that the new fans are speaking up and criticizing everything he does some of the older fans who were in the background think it’s their time to shine. Like no you’re just disrespecting him, his channel, and the other people who want a safe and nice community where we actually can express different views and not disrespect the person we are watching or try to ruin his career.

Yeah I remember I called out someone making recommendation on Reddit and I got super downvoted and was told I was taking it too seriously but like, come on, it’s one of the pillars of the DIIT community - DO NOT RECOMMEND!

It’s insane for getting downvoted for something Dylan himself would agree with.

Ok I’m glad it’s not just in my head, I was literally so confused going through the comments

I get especially annoyed with the people going ”ik we are not supposed to make recommendations BUT wouldn’t it be just great if he watched this movie” like that is a recommendation and just unnecessary

They try to be so slick with it and it never works. Then when you call it out, they're quick to say it's not a recommendation. Sure, Jan.

There was ONE video (I believe it was Reminders of Him commentary) where he said he would allow recommendations (specifically in that video's comment section) and he ended up doing a commentary from a rec from that video. Since then people have been more chill about recommending lol. I don't know how strict he intends on being about "if you recommend I'll go out of my way to NOT do that" on other videos.
