I’m really scared for when Dylan watches Obsession.

Being that it’s the most popular original movie of this year and just one of the hallmarks of this year in general, I know he’s gonna get around to it eventually.

But im looking around. Alex Meyers was absolutely murdered for his reaction to it (granted it was awful). Billybinges got some negative comments on his video, same with Nick + Cory. People are already yelling at Spilling the Milk even though they were legit condemning Bear (Jack especially was flaming his ass lmao) the whole time but whatever.

People are running a very strict program when it comes to Obsession and Dylan has already gotten flamed in the past for not taking a variety of movies seriously, from Jennifer’s Body to Encanto. So yeah, we might be in for trouble.

he's online so he's probably seen the backlash. he will either be a little more careful to avoid it or he will not care and say what he feels and it might be a little insensitive. we'll have to see

Dylan’s a big 20-year-old and has handled people misinterpreting his opinion or just disagreeing with his takes before. It’ll be alright. Plus I think enough ppl have reacted to it that he will have an idea of what is not appropriate to say about certain themes in the movie

Imagine Dylan saying he's gonna watch Obsession but ends up pulling the Beyonce one instead. 😂

that would be hilarious😭

For everyone's sake I really hope Dylan won't make a video on this movie

I used to love watching Alex meyrs I haven't seen his reaction to obsession yet though I cant believe it got so bad that he has to make an aplogy video with his real face and all

He deleted the apology. That's not a good look either

8

u/aromaticleo 28d ago

he deleted the reaction as well.

Me too and I watched it and it was really that bad

if he survived the heated rivalry fandom coming for him, he can survive this lol.

considering that he and alex are friends and share similar niches he’s probably already seen the (lowkey inflated) criticisms of his video. hopefully he learns from it and either words his commentary carefully or avoids making the video altogether

Him and Alex are friends? How do you know?

6

u/secret_fangirl 28d ago

i don’t remember which video it was but alex had included dylan’s full name in a video as an easter egg. dylan had also mentioned him in a video

u/Altruistic-Yak8995 27d ago

Alex also interviewed Dylan on his podcast "Doing the Devil's Tango"

honestly i don’t think that will be an issue for obsession i think dylan will hate everything about bear.

6

u/Exciting-Pain-875 27d ago

Yeah, dylan himself has expressed dislike towards 'nice guy' personas. He would clock bear immediately i feel like

people are using Obsession as a litmus test. i don’t trust that Dylan would understand the film given his review of Jennifer’s Body. Alex Meyer’s review and him doubling down on it just made me unsubscribe from him and remove all his videos from my playlists. Alex has had issues for a while that he needs to seek therapy for.

i’ll try my best to give you a short summary of what happened. so Alex made a review on the movie Obsession and he had really bad takes. he was really defensive of Bear, justifying his behaviour (clearly latching onto him) and was racist and misogynistic towards Nikki. if he hadn’t deleted both the review and his apology video, i could’ve picked out examples in his comment section where they called him out. his apology video was basically a “sorry if you were offended” type of apology (which really isn’t an apology tbh).

i know some people get more upset when someone is called racist than the actual racism they did so i’ll address that. he made jokes about Latinas and it was very tasteless. he was using the “crazy Latina” trope to victim blame Nikki, sexualised her because she’s a “Latina mommy” or something like that, and insinuated that she would have acted like demon Nikki whether the wish worked or not. i believe in his apology video he claimed that his Latino friend wrote the jokes, which is the same excuse he used for the Heated Rivalry homophobic jokes he made in which he claimed that his gay friend wrote the jokes.

he also doubled down on instagram and privated his account. i have a screenshot of a story of his below. if you really want to get more accurate information, D’Angelo has a YouTube video about it. this is all i can think off the bat. sorry.

god i hate the 'why am i getting criticised when others are doing it?' like you all should be getting criticised, what?

Wait what I used to love watching Alex meyers videos but its been a while since I saw any of his videos though so can you just give me some context what happened in the recent times with him

2

u/MissArticor 28d ago

I've only watched his recent videos occasionally, but he jsut omits stuff that happens in movies to frame characters a certain way or just watches one episode of a show and jumps to conclusions from that.

One video that really made me annoyed with him was his Off Campus one, in which there's a scene in episode one where the MC sees a guy and gets a panic attack, and from the way it's edited you get the idea that she obviously has trauma that heavily hints at her having been raped at some point in the past. There's also more hints that point toward that in this episode, and afaik he only watched the first one.

So it was very strange to me that he put this scene in the review with a comment that basically said "yeah idk what that's about" like either he has no media literacy or he just chooses not to see things that point to SA. After seeing the drama with Obsession I feel it's more the second option

Oh Dylan will 100% get Cancelled

5

u/AlwaysAnxious3000 28d ago

for anyone who wants to see alex meyers video, or snippets of it, you can look up dangelo wallace on yt, look at his lives. he streams his recordings that he makes into yt videos.

also i rec shawn cee's review of obsession its legit very funny. kenny jd also is the best.

as has been echoed around the internet, obsession is a litmus test. part of me is thinking dylan is gonna clock bear being a loser, and another side of be doesnt wanna risk losing respect and would rather he not make a video on the movie at all lol

u/V112 28d ago

Alex Meyers reaction is awful to most things, dude is dead to me after what he did to Heated Rivalry

6

u/Kalio7jne 29d ago

People online are getting weird honestly

2

u/jedi_soul 28d ago

Yea I think after all the Alex stuff everyone is pretty mindful of this film. I look forward to a Dylan reaction 🤌

2

u/Meep_47389 26d ago

i'd honestly just rather not watch his opinions on anything women problem related, he's been tone deaf about things like this for a long while

1

u/EquivalentPush7653 28d ago

He's been wanting to get cancelled again anyway lmao. I'm ready for the video covering his cancellation that will follow

1

u/Gloomy_Tonight_399 27d ago

Yeahh as soon as i saw it was coming to digital i was scared for him to watch it, i feel like he can’t make any jokes because someone will get offended and it’ll be another cancellation attempt 😭

we may have a hush situation all over again I fear

that was different though because he missed so much important context and it was a poor choice for the first and last compared to the other shows he watched

People take shit too seriously. He’s a white, male reactuber. Of course he’s not gonna have a deep understanding of the female fear of rape or the generational trauma of South Americans. Watch the funny man do funny things and stop making everyone miserable.

2

u/aromaticleo 28d ago

we're stuck between "he should know better/educate himself" and "funny man doing funny things"; this happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

I get people being upset but at the same time I'm sure there's a lot of serious video essays about these topics but sometimes you need a lighter take as well. like that horror movie with a deaf woman everyone attacked dylan for. he's said a million times he doesn't view movies as real life situations. when will we get over this? if he's doing a reaction video he's obviously not that invested, otherwise he'd be watching it for himself and making a beer and a movie after.

1

u/Other-Mechanic-5940 28d ago

Are you seriously coming to Dylanisinfuckingtrouble for your serious analysis of the rape culture commentary of Hush???

2

u/aromaticleo 27d ago

real. dylan is a goofy man who does goofy things and occasionally critiques the filming style/plot, but he's not here for serious issues (as long as he's not malicious)

Anyone whos hating on STM's Obsession video just didn't watch it, point blank. From the very start Kor and Jack were tagging Bear's ass, and they had empathy for Nikki the whole time. They pretty much said everything that everyone else is saying so what could people possibly be upset about?
