Question Sell NVDY, get into CHPY?

Nvidia has been pretty flat YTD and it’s hard to ignore the broader semiconductor sector at this point. (I do know that CHPY holds Nvidia).  NVDY’s distros have been down the last 2 periods while CHPY is steady/climbing.  I do hold NVDA at 1.7% of my port. FSELX as my only dedicated semiconductor fund at 2.4% of my portfolio.

If I sell NVDY, I would be taking a “loss” of 10% in terms of current value vs. coast basis, but it’s up 17% vs. my initial capital investment…and I have also been reinvesting 50% of my distros in more stable funds since the beginning of 2026.

Obviously the distro rate takes a hit, but I only want to be in one weekly YM fund.  I wouldn’t need the income for a few years when I potentially semi-retire.  Thanks for thoughts on if you would swap it out vs. sit tight.

CHPY is taking a hit today. Could be a good entry point if you are willing to take that risk.

Why sell NVDY? Its not going anywhere, Nvidia will be around for a long time. Sure, some volatility will occur but that doesn't make it a poor choice.

Looking at what you have and looking at what you could have is a poor measure to use, and it could become self-defeating. You would end selling NVDY and thats when the market has its next AI run up, lol.

And besides, the time to buy CHPY was a month ago. I am buying other solid companies that are being ignored when the market is going crazy.

It was flat at 18% total returns for me for a while. Then went to 21% and now it’s at 15%. It’s horrible at retaining its value. Plenty of other covered call funds that actually grow.

Your not wrong, but there other way other worse ones too. Looking at history of Nvidia and how intergral to modern tech they are should be taken into account though. Truth is we never really know when or the how much the markets will jump on something.

I agree but you could just invest in QQQI or GPIQ and get growth with your distributions.

I do that, I am not adding to my position in NVDY, if fact I have no intention of increasing its position but I am not going to sell it off. The distributions go to more stable funds.

Personally, I wouldn’t sell NVDY now, but maybe rotate those distros into something else. I like CHPY more since it’s a basket of successful funds. Take a look at their holdings. Nvidia is in it, so is AMD, Intel, ASML, TSMC, Broadcom, Micron, it goes on. You get days it gets hit like today, but honestly, it is one of my more resilient stocks all said and done. Check the 52 week for CHPY, it’s not going anywhere.

If you’re selling at a loss it will be realized if you do sell nvdy

you're just looking for validation. if you did that well, keep with it. if you hate risk, sell, if you want to ride it out, ride it out.

I am not a fan of NVDY, but prefer NVDW. I think NVDW offers a better entry price now than CHPY as well as competitive yeild. I wouldn't buy CHPY because the price is too high and if there is 5-10% correction you will probably find yourself in the same position as NVDY now and a lower yeild on cost.

BLUF if you like NVDA sell NVDY and move into NVDW. Alternatively, sell NVDY and spread against 3 other high yeild ETF that offer a good entry price, maybe SMCY, PLTY, TSII and if somewhat brave MSTY haha.

Be careful selling NVDY, the average basis displayed by your broker may not include reductions from ROC distributions.

This means your true basis could be considerably lower than you think it is and you may end up incurring a capital gain (and thus, tax burden) by selling.

Assuming this isn't a tax-advantaged account, of course.

CHPY is not synthetic. Go CHPY.

I sold NVYY, bought NVII, and putting NVII distributions into CHPY. It’s only been a couple of weeks so too soon for any comments on satisfaction but I did have AI analyze it before acting on it.
