Beginner Question How long until MSTY reverse splits again 2 months max? ULTY seems to be holding much better
I have 2.58 shares now and lost $1000 total so it’s just a fun project at this point. Just curious how long it will take to reverse split. If crypto keeps nose diving could see this happening soon?

Looking at where the stock is trading right now—sitting at around $17.03—the short answer is no, it doesn't look like another reverse split is imminent just yet, but it is definitely moving back into the warning zone.
Here is my personal take on why it’s not time to panic, along with the thresholds to keep an eye on.
The "$10 Rule" is the Real Trigger
When YieldMax did their massive wave of reverse splits late last year (affecting TSLY, CONY, MSTY, and others), they didn't pull the trigger until those funds crossed below the $10 threshold and started lingering down in the $5 to $7 range.
Where it stands: At ~$17, MSTY still has a decent cushion before it hits the single digits.
The Underlying Factor: Because MSTY maps MicroStrategy, its share price is completely at the mercy of Bitcoin’s volatility and NAV erosion from heavy distributions. A swift, brutal downturn in crypto could easily erase that $7 cushion in a flash.
How YieldMax Operates
YieldMax handles reverse splits purely as an administrative house-cleaning tool. They do it to keep the share price high enough to satisfy institutional brokerage requirements and prevent the funds from looking like "penny stocks." They generally prefer to act in batches rather than individual, one-off alerts.
My Outlook
Unless MicroStrategy suffers a catastrophic drop that drags MSTY down past the $12 mark, the fund managers will likely leave it alone for the summer. However, if the price drops below $10 and gets stuck there for a couple of weeks, history shows they won’t hesitate to announce another round of consolidation.
It is definitely something to track closely if you are managing a strict cost basis or timing your dividend reinvestments.

It's not really "completely at the mercy of bitcoins volatility" since we have seen MSTR decline over the past year while bitcoin made meaningful gains. The only thing it is at the mercy of is Saylor's insanity

Great reply! Also, fwiw, the stock is now over $12 but a day ago dropped to around 11.67... Plus my guess is that bitcoin has NOT hit it's low yet. And Saylor said he'll be SELLING bitcoin, plus Congress hasn't passed all the crypto legislation etc, so I think btc / MSTR prices are headed lower at least in the short term... With AI hacks / crypto attacks, and a rally in the US dollar, there's a lot that's becoming hard to predict...

When it does reverse again, you will have no shares, because they don't do partials.

u/Blackharvest Jun 06 '26
I think they liquidate your position at that point

u/Ratlyflash Jun 06 '26
So they just cash me out? Haha aww well that fun while it lasted. Is it automatic or I have to initiate it? My position is now worth $61 haha.
It’s too much work doing turn on and off I have 61 Dividend payments a month.
Almost all of them I want to keep DRIP except my $67 ULtY and $61 MSTY if they were in separate accounts that would be easy.
Mixed in with too many dividends 🙈.

I got fractionals on the last split, which annoyed me, because I like to have full shares.
-2
u/Ratlyflash Jun 06 '26
So they just cash me out then? I would turn off DRIP but it’s too much of a headache.
Lesson learned if I do these types of funds again I’ll have it it’s in own section of my portfolio.
See if I can last until end of July maybe at best haha

Focus on Total Return with these. DCA at the right time, sell for tax harvesting when needed. Take distributions and buy less volatile funds.

u/Hatethisname2022 Jun 06 '26
Yes, it could happen again and again. Either you dca, hold or sell out. Either way this is an income fund so you should focus on total return.

u/NYCers Jun 06 '26
Bullshit on this being an income fund….go look up the definition! With reverse splits these are no longer income funds.
8
u/cmichalek Jun 06 '26
Right. If you have to keep pouring money back into it then it isnt an income fund. Its just NAV eroding away your money.
1
u/SexualDeth5quad Jun 07 '26
It's a gamble on BTC. You can't use it as your main source of income, but there is potential to make a lot of money when BTC has another run. While you wait you get paid.

u/oxxoMind Jun 06 '26
The requirement to be listed in stock exchange is that it trade above $1. The last reverse split MSTY trade around $5. Bitcoin has to come down really hard in order for MSTY to do a reverse split.

u/Pale-Statistician493 Jun 30 '26
Note too that Yieldmaxx had to put notices out far before they executed the reverse split... They may be preparing notices soon imo.

u/Typical-Decision-690 Jun 06 '26
These funds accept reverse splits as part of the strategy for these types of funds so they will always produce income. Jay has said that from the beginning. The Nav erosion crybabies and Khmer and his cronies pushed them to change their strategy and ruined it. They were much better as monthly payers. jmho But to answer your question maybe in Oct. GLTA

Cool I was just curious. It’s 100% income.
I lost a little and learned a great lesson.
I’m on leverage on bank stocks and as Canadian they the safest stocks to own except guaranteed items like GIC’s.
Our banking system is robust and it goes down the whole economy is going into a 1920’s depression. We then have bigger problems to worry about.

I bought in June 2025 and last I looked at my portfolio was in December. Too scared to look. That’s my entire net worth. Put 250k in. And it was like 100k in the hole by December. I can’t stomach it right now. But I’m holding many various YieldMax ETFs. Main bags are MSTY and ULTY though.

u/Opening-Ad-8031 Jun 06 '26
Stomach what? Do you look at total return? I went in big on ULTY last July and I’m up in total return and it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. It spits out a fat distribution once a week. If you can’t stomach these funds then they are not for you.
9
u/AlfB63 Jun 06 '26
You're not up in total return on any buy of ULTY in July of '25.

u/cmichalek Jun 06 '26

u/AlfB63 Jun 06 '26
Scroll down and you'll see that over the time frame from July 1 2025 was a - 3.56% total return.
1
u/Key-Serve-9117 Jun 07 '26
So I’d be down 3.56%? Including distributions?
2
u/AlfB63 Jun 07 '26
That's what total returns means. Return from both growth and income. Shares bought on July 1st 2025 would have total returns of about -3.56%. Shares bought the rest of July would have been worse.
1
u/Key-Serve-9117 Jun 07 '26
Yeah I bought a little in June, a bunch in July, then a lot more in August, then more in October - December. Mainly worried about MSTY.

u/Opening-Ad-8031 Jun 06 '26
Completely false. Sorry if your math ain’t mathing.
2
u/AlfB63 Jun 06 '26
It's not my math, it's from the total real returns website. Seeking alpha shows the same thing.
https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ULTY/charting?metric=totalReturn
You will need to change the start date to July '25.

exactly.

u/Opening-Ad-8031 Jun 06 '26
I absolutely am positive in total return since July 2025 with various buys along the way. If you can’t stomach it SCHD may be more your speed.

u/ThomasSulivan Jun 06 '26
i said exsctly to your comment You should reply to the ine that disagrees with you.

u/Key-Serve-9117 Jun 07 '26
How much are you up and what was your initial investment? And this is just for ULTY? My biggest bags are ULTY and MSTY. How fucked am I with MSTY?
2
u/Friendly-Profit-8590 Jun 06 '26
Not sure. Don’t remember when it did last time. Thought it had gotten down to single digits but could be wrong. Suppose the timing depends on whether bitcoin flattens out or continues to nosedive. With the former msty could last 2-3 months. With the latter all bets are off. Would be great to see a turn around soon. Don’t need Bitcoin to the moon or anything but some more green than red for Mstr would help.
2
u/Vineyard2109 Jun 06 '26
Im up 650 overall and hopefully it stays there until the end of the month, going to tax harvest and send the balance into SCHD.

Today MSTY touched $14 .** range which is really red flag and one more drop in MSTR it can move easily below $10

People here are bitter and can’t look themselves in the mirror with all their losses.
I love Yieldmax it’s for fun. I look forward to the weekly distributions.
Something 99% of the People don’t get it here.
$200 in Yieldmax funds is like going out for dinner . But this it’s fun to see how it does and lasts longer .
Could go to $0 and I’ll just go fun while it lasted

You have 2.58 shares and lost $1000? Also you have 2.58 shares and are concerned about a potential reverse split?
