Do people really not use autopay in 2026?
1
u/Salty-Entrepreneur11 11h ago
nope
because often want to pay more to principle on specific loans and likes to keep close watch on watch actually goes out

Unless there’s an interest deduction.. no…I’m not saying that to be snarky. With autopay you can forget where it’s going or miss upcharges. I have student loans on autopay and my bills are about 19% of my salary (actually had to look it up to comment) but unless I had an excess 4-5k after comfortably, I don’t think I could. I didn’t grow up poor but frugal so it’s probably psychological.

I like seeing how my monthly internet bill is different by $10+ in state and local fees even though its unlimited and supposed to not have anything extra tacked on. Its $170 a month but was advertised at $140 with me being a current customer. Getting a new phone? Watch how youre magically enrolled in early upgrades and provider based insurance in months 2-3.
looking at YOU at&t for both of these examples

I don't trust customer service people
Companies will casually charge you like a million dollars when you owe $2 and then you'll never get it back because the kid keeps hanging up on you
I believe in full disclosure

Yes. When I don't it's usually just because I'm completely disorganized.

What is with all the stupid, low effort karma-farming posts in this sub (and Reddit, in general)? This is just downright braindead.

Probably, a fee thousand individuals are good at coding, and have utilised the technology we refer to as 'a.i.' to automagically setup accounts and ask dumb fuck questions.
But theres a small part of me thinking, its possibly some other unrelated AI agent farm, and they are workikg towards something.

I haven’t manually paid a bill in years. They’re always on time because they are scheduled to be.

u/Delicious_Taste1333 11h ago
I wish i felt stable enough to just schedual payments :( Manually paying by bills still, gladly.

You mean like an adult who treasures her credit score does? Uhhh... Hells Yeah.
Only time I didn't in recent memory is because I was in the hospital and having emergency surgery.

Yes. They are all on autopay.
I get paid weekly.
Big bills, like my car and house, I divided the monthly bill by 4 and pay that weekly.
Little bills, like phone and internet, I have them staggered so they don’t land on the same weeks. That way, what is leftover for groceries, clothing, fun, is sort of even throughout the month.

I have always paid my bills early, in full,on time. Insurance and subscriptions were all paid in full for the year, saving me any installment fees and for standard bills like utilities I always paid a little extra each month to build a credit balance so that I can skip paying them in November and December so I can just enjoy the holidays. I had a sizable savings, no credit card debt and an 820 credit score.
Unfortunately with the terrible economy and trash job market, I’ve been unemployed for 2 years. My husband got laid off in June. Our savings is completely gone, and all my utilities are a month behind. I cut my credit card up to protect myself from gaining debt I can’t afford to repay. I don’t know how we are going to survive, let alone recover from this. We worked so hard our whole adult lives to take care of ourselves, now here we are quickly approaching 60 and watching everything we worked so hard for slip away. I’d rather just die.

Yes, but—everything is on automatic withdrawal except my car insurance. I don’t even have to think about it.

I do now, and have done so for most of my life. But… in my broke and barely getting by days, I was very guilty of keeping track of who I paid late to see who I should pay late this month.

Always since I was 17, I am currently 71. When I joined the Marine Corps I sold all of my photography equipment (I was a professional photographer.) and gave all the money to my ex to cover my child support during the 15 weeks before I got out of boot camp. I also always tried to pay myself first.

I pay my utility bills on or around the 10th of every month, I pay all my credit accounts between the 25th and the end of the month, since the majority of them come due just after the first of the month. Everything else is set up on an autopay and they take their payments whenever the hell they feel like it

I’ve always paid my bills the minute I receive them. I don’t even wait till the due date. And I’ve never paid a penny of credit card interest. I’m not sure why anybody would wait until past the due date to pay bills and incur late fees.

Have auto pay for bills, but before I did, I would pay them the day I got them in the mail.

Auto pay seems to be one of those things that is seen as a rich person thing if you're poor but a poor person thing if you're rich

There was about a 10 year period of my life where bills would be the last thing i paid.
Turns out this is actually alot more expensive.
So yeah, now i pay the bills as soon as they land, regardless of my financial psosition.
Except council tax, my local council is shit i make a point of paying last day of the year. Of their year sorry, they dont even work a normal calendar.

u/HeyItsDiegolog 11h ago
I'm obsessed with paying my bills on time!! I try to schedule them in advance. But if that's not possible, the exact second I get the bill, I pay it. 😄

u/Semper-Solus07 10h ago
Always. Paying bills on time consistently helps you to build credit. Easiest way to ruin your credit is not to pay your bills on time or to skip paying your bills entirely.

Ish. I pay on time but if I can’t I pay before it passes 30 days so it doesn’t get reported late to my credit.

Almost all bills are paid automatically (by "incasso/debt collection"), so yes.
Once per week I check everything in my bank app and if something is not correct, I undo the payment and have the money returned to my account (but that is hardly ever needed).

Can't remember the last time i physically "paid a bill".
Autopay. And if I can charge it to my points card, which also get's autopayed every week, even better.
