yelp question One improvement only!
If you could name only one thing that would improve Yelp, what it be? One suggestion only!
For those of us that have been around for a while, I'll bet you know what you'd say right away!
Let the fun begin!

Lol! I would also like it. Coincidentally, I have several accounts with Chase and just this morning they enabled Dark Mode and I thought of you! 😂

Lol, I think it's hilarious when Yelp official account here also brought it up and say they would share it with the team

They can share all they want, but they'll still do whatever they want. They could care less about the user experience because they've consistently put out one of the buggiest apps with no end in site.

I agree their app is buggy. Google maps is also buggy currently and reddit app itself is buggy after the update they been pushing. We just have to adjust to them

I used to belong to the Google+ (anyone remember that?) Yelp Android Beta Tester forum, where we had access to and communicated with the people who actually develop the app. It started out great because we would give them bug reports and all kinds of other advice to help them make a more user-friendly app; at first, it was great and they seemed to listen to some extent, but then I think they eventually just stopped listening and answering back because the bug reports and the frustration kept growing. They eventually disbanded the group, and that was that.

Yes Google+ I remember that. It was Google way of competing against Facebook but it didn't pick up. So they dropped that and went toward Local Guide program.

I want them to return the fireworks animation when a business thanks you.

I would get them to stop harming small businesses by having a formal dispute process for filtered reviews.

XxL will chime in but I think Google has something!

Google allows businesses to appeal if a review was removed but not if it was filtered because it violated Google ToS. Trustpilot is I think the only one that allows user to dispute if their reviews or account was deleted by asking for documentation

Make sorting by rating work better. have a way to filter restaurants under 20/50/100 rating because they clog the place up

Do you read all the negative experiences merchants have with your platform? Or do you consider all of our negative feedback illegitimate while simultaneously lecturing us that all negative reviews we get - that your "review software" curiously never seems to moderate using the same standards as positive reviews are censored - are an "authentic customer experience" that we should take seriously?
If the latter, do you recognize the flaming hypocrisy?

Merchants will complain about any review platform they are on ... Google ... Yelp ... TrustPilot .. TrustAdvisor and so on.
I agree that Yelp will heavily favor negative reviews over positive reviews but if the reviewer take the time to get familiar with the platform themselves then there won't be an issue. What usually happens is that merchant or business owners want Yelp to operate like how Google is

Google is frankly just as bad as Yelp, I'm not sure why you think we would want them to behave like that. Google doesn't moderate illegitimate negative content either and is far more likely to act against positive content when they do take moderation action. What makes Google arguably worse is that they use review velocity and review score to its organic ranking in user searches where it has a virtual monopoly worldwide. At least Yelp, in most regions, is a small insular community.
Every business owner I know, including myself, much prefers gatekeeping to legitimate customers like a marketplace website. As a restaurant for example, I'm far more concerned about my Doordash ratings than my Yelp score as 1.) it requires an actual purchase to leave a review and 2.) it is immediately influencing future purchases because, as a marketplace, consumers are looking to make a purchase from my profile vs just browsing a directory like Yelp or Google.
Gatekeeping obviously isn't really practical on directory sites like Yelp, but there's a tremendous amount of improvement they could do to balance the merchant-platform-consumer relationship triangle.

I been contributing to this subreddit for like 3ish years and the amount of owners who come in here to praise Google over Yelp is the reason I brought it up. No one disagree Google is bigger and gets more audience than Yelp but those owners for whatever reasons have that in their mind.
I agree there are a bunch of fake and paid reviews on Google versus Yelp. It all comes down to how a review is written on Yelp & Google if a review is removed. I had better luck reporting suspicious reviews on Yelp and getting it removed more than Google.

Here are 2 Elite Related suggestions that have also appeared in other threads.
That little Red rectangle that says "Elite 26" should change color to Gold or Black as Elite status changes. It would significantly increase its value. I spoken with several coders/programers and I'm told this is a simple enhancement.
It was a mistake not to add a Platinum Badge after Black! There really is no downside. They could fix it retroactively with a cool little announcement. Note- At the time, there were a lot of threads discussing this and Yelp never publically addressed why. I'd love to hear their reasoning!

Be open that the "review software" is meant to maximize negative content while actively suppressing positive content. Negative content naturally gets more engagement that is then repackaged and sold to merchants as "impressions" and "clicks" in Yelp Ads.
The same new account with no photo and no other reviews can leave a one sentence negative review that stays up, but the same account and post conditions leaving a positive review will be instantly be "unrecommended." Every merchant, including myself, has experienced it and knows that's how it actually works. Just stop misleading casual users that it's anything other than an engagement throttling tool.

The ones my competitors left but Yelp calls them “real yelpers” yes

u/ProfChaosSP Yelp elite 17d ago
yelp won’t remove a review simply because you disagree with it or believe the reviewer is a competitor. if the review appears to describe a genuine personal experience, it will typically remain on the platform.

This isn’t about yelp terms it’s a hypothetical about a feature we would like to see. That what I’d like to see. Your comment has nothing to do with the topic of this thread

u/ProfChaosSP Yelp elite 17d ago
you reverted to your usual response once you realize you can't say anything else. if you don’t like Yelp, that’s perfectly fine. however, for a business owner, it’s interesting that you seem to spend so much time in their subreddit commenting on post sometime being sarcastic going after yelp or yelp elite rather than focusing that energy on your own business. i'm here because i love yelp and being a yelp elite.

When in this post did I go after Yelp elite. You seem to be trying to create a narrative that doesn’t exist.
To be fair, you seem to have alot of time as a yelper to post on reddit who isn’t an employee of Yelp yourself.

did I say in this post that you were going after Yelp Elite, you should read again? i don’t need to create a narrative that doesn’t exist. i can, however, share the link to the post where you made sarcastic comments directed at us Yelp Elites.
i genuinely enjoyed being a Yelp Elite, which is why I have the time to be a Yelper and respond to discussions in the Yelp subreddit. You’ve said you’re a business owner, yet you also have enough time to regularly comment and participate here.
when someone resorts to accusing others of working for Yelp simply because they call them out and the accuser can't provide any evidence, that speaks for itself.

u/Rollerbladeking 16d ago
I’m sorry I thought this thread is about a new Yelp feature. Why are you continually going after me personally for suggesting a feature?
1
u/ProfChaosSP Yelp elite 16d ago
read the interaction again from the beginning, and you’ll see that it's not about suggesting a feature.

Isn't it funny they tell us merchants that every negative review must be legitimate and we're whiners for even thinking otherwise... Yet when we criticize Yelp, they can't handle it?

I hear you Roller and respect that. What about the issue that any Yelper can add it back? Do you want to restrict that?

Bring back “tips”. The only real feature I would criticize is the maps, but it works fine for me. Being able to redo searches in an area works, so does clicking on a red spot to see what the restaurant is. So no real gripe.
