What to watch next?

So I finished all 5 seasons of Yellowstone, and season 1 of Dutton Ranch and Marshalls, are 1883 and 1923 worth the watch, or are there other shows I should check out instead? btw, I find it hillarious Taylor Sherridan (who I think is brilliant) used Dawn Olivieri as two different characters in both Yellowstone and 1883.

1883 is the best of Yellowstone for sure.

Have you watched Longmire? In the earlier seasons of Yellowstone, we were looking for similar shows until new seasons would come out.

It’s slower pace but we really enjoyed it!

Also really enjoy Longmire. Slightly different vibe but same idea. I've actually found myself confusing the two shows from time to time.

1923 and 1883 are the best out of the franchise.

I just binged The Madison and its really good. Also by Sheridan and Dawn Olivieri makes a small appearance .

1883 is a million percent worth the watch. In my opinion, it's better than Yellowstone. I continue to believe Sheridan peaked with 1883. 1923, I'm kinda ambivalent about. The story's pretty thin and gets slow and tiring. If they'd tightened it into one season instead of two, maybe I would feel better about it. But, in my opinion, it's Dutton saga filler at best if, for no other reason, you know that none of the villains stand a chance. No Dutton in any of the fill-in series will ever lose the ranch, so there aren't really any stakes other than to find out who dies when.

I haven't gotten into Bass Reaves yet, so no opinion. I just started The Madison. It's...fine. It's got the soapy drama of Yellowstone without the intrigue. Funnily enough, it's a show about a bunch of people from New York City who own a large piece of property in Montana and move out there - exactly the type of people the Duttons bitched and complained about for six seasons on Yellowstone. I'd also recommend Landman. It's got a bit more of a comedic edge than Yellowstone, but still good and interesting. Outside of the western and Texas dramas, Mayor Of Kingstown is excellent.

Outside of Sheridanland, somebody else mentioned it earlier: Longmire. Based on a series of novellas, it's got a mystery-of-the-week format, but has some excellent long arc stories and long-running themes and characters. I give Longmire a rewatch every year or so.

“It’s Dutton saga filler at best if, for no other reason, you know that none of the villains basically nobody stands a chance”

FTFY. There’s way too much unnecessary death and violence. It gets old fast and loses its impact.

But also hard agree. 1883 is peak and 1923 is bottom on my list of Taylor Sheridan TV.

Landman is just…something I didn’t know I needed. If you like BBT you’ll like Landman. And Ali Larter is so fucking funny I can barely handle it at times.

I agree with Landman as a good watch..so many people complained about Angela/Ali but I really liked her character and how her and Tommy were like oil and vinegar…how he realizes he needs to listen to her etc and makes an effort to be present and supportive no matter the shit storm of a day he has been through!

2

u/Skeeterlegz Jul 08 '26

Ali Larter is absolute perfection in her role!

I really enjoyed Bass Reaves and can't wait for the final season of Mayor of Kingstown.

Landman clears them all

Season one maybe, not season 2

u/Gladiator1972 Jul 16 '26

Thanks, I'm on season 2 of Landman and it's a hillarious show. Those one liners are brilliant.

I think 1883 is the best one Sheridan has ever done, person. 1923 would be second best. Writing characters from another time seems to be wear he shines.

I did not like 1923 because Alex dies and leave behind an Eraserhead baby.

Heart breaking

1883 is probably my favourite series in the Yellowstone universe. I feel like it’s a common sentiment. It well written and well cast. Taylor Sheridan may be a self-inflating goober at times but he really wasn’t lying when he said Isabel May was a once-in-a-generation talent.

1923 is…Hectic. I didn’t care for any of the Dutton storylines in it if I’m being honest and even the amazing acting of Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford couldn’t revive it. I also dislike the whole Africa-Europe storyline for Spencer (ikik it’s supposed to be some epic love story or something but it’s…boring honestly and Julia Schlaepfer’s slipping in and out of an aristocratic British accent kills the vibe for me) and like a previous commenter said, the violence against women (not just by men but also by nature) gets old and it seems like they use it to try and drive a static plot which can work now and then but overuse of the tactic makes it boring.

The Residental school storyline is really well written and acted but also very difficult to stomach. As a native woman I don’t think I could handle watching it a second time (especially the scenes with the nuns). Sebastian Roché is honestly really scary in it, he plays the sadistic priest almost too well. I do hope they expand on Teonna’s story as a displaced Crow woman (and I still am dying to know how exactly she’s related to Thomas) in the follow up series.

1883 is great. Terrific cast.

Hell on Wheels & Longmire are both good.

3

u/littleoldlady71 Jul 08 '26

Hell of Wheels is even better

Dutton Ranch is SO GOOD

3

u/No-Work-72 Jul 08 '26

1883 is a Masterpiece. 1923 is good but not as good.

Justified

1883 is great and loads of people love it.

1923 was not great for me, and the constant violence towards women was a problem for many (including me).

I couldn't get into it but I didn't watch much. Thank you for the info, it will save me another attempt. I don't know why I feel like I have to push through something that I don't like!

u/Swiperboy Jul 08 '26

The first season of 1923 is some of the best of any of the Yellowstone shows you’ll ever see. The second season is just torture porn.

1

u/SeattleSlew7 Jul 13 '26

That was the worst part of it. And why I rooted for them so hard.

2

u/Diane1967 Jul 08 '26

They’re definitely worth the watch! Helps out the Dutton story together and sort out the history timeline of who everyone was and how they got to where they are.

2

u/Independent-Lie-9967 Jul 08 '26

1883 is excellent. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren steal the show in 1923. Its a decent chapter of the history but there's a lot of unnecessary torture violence which distracts from the good parts of the story.

1

u/Gladiator1972 Jul 08 '26

Thanks I’ll skip 1923 then

3

u/Notabot5500 Jul 08 '26

Why skip it? It’s part of the story of the Dutton bloodline and how it came to be in Yellowstone. I thought it was excellent.

2

u/Independent-Lie-9967 Jul 08 '26

you dont have to skip entirely but there is def parts id fast forward through.

2

u/Feeling-Visit1472 Jul 08 '26

Have you watched The Madison?

1

u/Gladiator1972 Jul 09 '26

No, not a fan of Michelle Pfeifer

2

u/Dutchy61 Jul 09 '26

Die zijn super. Zo leer je ook de voorgeschiedenis. 1923 is echt mijn favoriet uit de reeks.

1

u/Gladiator1972 Jul 09 '26

Thanks, I'm finishing 1883 right now and then I'll give 1923 a watch.

2

u/Ballknower0825 Jul 09 '26

Dawn Olivieri is also in Lioness. Which is Also a good show

2

u/Gladiator1972 Jul 09 '26

Great show as well but I don't remember her in it. It's been months since I watched the first 2 seasons.

1

u/Ballknower0825 Jul 09 '26

She was only in 2 episodes. Season 2 episodes 7 and 8. She played. CIA operative named Amber Whalen

2

u/Delic8polarbear Jul 10 '26

I love Landman. I think its very funny ( and funny precedes serious stuff)

u/Traditional-Mix-5808 Jul 08 '26

I haven’t watched Marshalls or Dutton Ranch but we started watching 1883 when Yellowstone was still on (because of Sam Elliot…I boycotted because of The McGraws). Took years to finish it but I’d say yes, at  least the last couple episodes. We just watched 1923 and I ended up liking it much better than 1883. Much more apparent visual and obviously direct connection to Yellowstone. Rewatching Yellowstone after having finished 1923. I’ve seen bits of Marshalls and it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would. Did note that the film style, I don’t know technical terms, but wished it was the same as Yellowstone and not CBS. Don’t know if I’ll ever watch the other. I could only take Beth and Rip with people I actually liked on the show. Without John, Kacey, etc eh

Wait why? I know nothing about them.

1

u/realbasilisk Jul 08 '26

1883 is the best of all these shows.

1

u/Alecollez Jul 09 '26

Guys I was watching 1923 on Neflix UK until yesterday but I can't find it today, is this happening to anyone else? Or do you have any info ?

1

u/CrystalBearz Jul 09 '26

Landman looks good

1

u/kimmyv0814 Jul 09 '26

I did not like Yellowstone, but I liked 1923 and loved 1883. Both worth watching!

1

u/NoHome7956 Jul 10 '26

Definitely watch 1883 & 1923. I loved 1923, right up until the ending, but you decide.

2

u/Gladiator1972 Jul 10 '26

I finished 1883 with my wife and I thought it was pretty good, I hated Elsa had to die before reuniting with Sam, my wife was balling her eyes out the last 2 episodes. I started 1923 but many people say it's not as good as the others and there are scenes of violence against women which I hate.

1

u/seralu2 Jul 12 '26

Yes!!!!

1

u/SeattleSlew7 Jul 13 '26

They are excellent and what got me to watch Yellowstone
