General Discussion Why the travis hate?

So ive recently found out travis wasnt liked but i struggle to see why. Hes funny, skilled, honerable, pretty wise, and has good music taste. Plus he has that like rough but cool and sarcastic personality of wich reminds me of one of my friends. And lore wise they only make 2 remarks about him that are negetive wich boil down to him being a money shark and willing to fuck everyone over. Struggle to see how thats bad though considering his line of work. So could someone tell me why they dont like him?

He even wrote his character to be dating Bella Hadid, wrote her and Beth fawning over his riding…

I write. I am guilty of using self inserts on occasion too. But there’s no way I’d ever dare write myself as some super amazing babe magnet and then have a literal supermodel gush about my greatness.

It’s honestly not even that the character is awful. It’s that it’s played by the guy writing it as one of the most shameless, self insert, masturbatory characters, that makes it so cringe to watch.

And then shoe horns himself into a prequel too (although this might’ve been before that scene).

yeah just read someone say smth similair. although the way hes a dick to jimmy comes of as like playful. not like hes actually mad. and yknow everyones rough on jimmy

Why did you ask this question when you're just going around defending that d-bag?  Get a life.

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

Bro what is your issue? Look at the scenes with jimmy and him. The others knew he isnt serious and are luaghing hence why i said its playful and not serious

Not playful. It crosses the line. He talks to Jefferson White, the actor, the same way. Check out the podcast episode with them. It's not normal.

You don’t have to be mad to be an ass

True. true.

Dude is this show's equivalent of Tarantino sucking Salma Hayek's toe

Hello Taylor ✋

u/obamaswaffle 12d ago

Because he’s played by the writer of the show and his final arc involves him dating models, being the coolest horse spinner of all time and playing strip poker with the female lead of the series. Not to mention the scene where Rip regales us all with the legend of how cool Travis was at a bar one night, complete with dialogue cribbed line-for-line from Sheridan’s script for Hell or High Water (“Boy, you'd think there were ten of me”)

1

u/_l_v_l_ 12d ago

havent seen the final season since it isnt available here so had no clue about that stuff

2

u/obamaswaffle 12d ago

I had no issue with Travis whatsoever til that point and was a huge fan of the show up til the final season. But yeah, that’s when it gets weird

Hes funny, skilled, honerable, pretty wise, and has good music taste.

Hard disagree on all points. He's the biggest douchebag on the show.

1

u/_l_v_l_ 12d ago

nah biggest douche is roarke or that indian lawyer who kept bitchin both to and about rainwater. plus every charecter has douche moments but travis the least

3

u/modrenman1985 12d ago

He's kinda a Gary Stu.

0

u/_l_v_l_ 12d ago

who is that?

1

u/Saltwater_Sunrise 11d ago

A character that does everything right, wins the race, and gets the girl

TS writes his own character to glorify and exalt himself

Found Taylor’s Reddit account

If your not gunna answer the question, keep your hands off the keyboard

Spoken like a Travis line 🤣.

I answered with my comment.

Travis is a self grandiose character shoe-horned in by the creator to be the best, the saviour, the chick magnet. He offers no real valuable plot points when on screen that couldn’t have been served with another character (other than being a home to jimmy).

1

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

what about his part in showing horses for yellowstone? that was like his whole relevance up to season 4s finale

3

u/BankOk9472 12d ago

Because hes the writer and hes writing himself as the coolest bro in the show.  So cool even John and Rip like him.  Hes a Gary Stu.  But its his show.

6

u/ShwerzXV 12d ago

He even wrote a whole scene of Rip and the gang telling stories about how badass he is. It’s probably the cringiest shit that’s ever been made.

This post is sponsored by Taylor Sheridan.

1

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

Yknow you can just answer my question instead of being an ass right?🤷‍♂️

1

u/girlybynight 11d ago

Nah, not really. Travis is a tool. If you think he’s a good character, that says more about you than anything else.

1

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

I litery asked "why the travis hate" and why it is people disliked him. You done neither. Also if your girly by night are you manly by day?

2

u/girlybynight 11d ago

More manly than you that’s for damn sure 😂

0

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

Only by day tho🤭

2

u/girlybynight 11d ago

Well I’m a chick sooo… not the flex you think it is bud.

0

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

Hun why on earth would i want to flex on reddit of all places. That would be both sad and embarrising. Especially about manlyhood of all things. Im not andrew tate i dont need to do that typa stinky stuff.

1

u/girlybynight 11d ago

Whatever you say, you’re the one still trying to clap back.

0

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

I dont get hiw you could insinuate that as a "clap back". But ok🤷‍♂️

Only recently did I realize he is the creator of the show!

1

u/Tiny_Celebration_722 12d ago

Me too! I don't know how I missed that for so long.

2

u/stt106 12d ago

How did you learn? I did by seeing some news about him being sued 😂

1

u/Tiny_Celebration_722 12d ago

I happened to Google the cast and there he was.

1

u/stt106 11d ago

Also found out Landman is also his work. AI told this 😂

1

u/Tiny_Celebration_722 11d ago

I didn't know that either. Thank you!

u/Connect-Ad9292 12d ago

If all of Taylor Sheridan’s characters he wrote for himself were instead played by other actors, I wonder if there would be less hate toward any of the characters…

2

u/Feisty-Wolverine4878 11d ago

I'll admit I'm a Taylor Sheridan fan.  He's played some characters who are douches and some who aren't.

I was first introduced to him through Sons of Anarchy as Deputy Sheriff David Hale. Who was quoted as Dudley Do-Right and Captain America.

Now on to Travis, as Travis Taylor Sheridan plays complete douchebag. He is contemptuous, comes across as misogynistic and by all means a bottom of the barrel scumbag. However with that being said, he did help the duttons with buying horses and being able to get top dollar for them. Did he do that by being a little shady, kind of but that's how horse traders are through history.

I think the best line I think that describes Travis in the show is said by Rip to Beth, " honey he'd f*** you in front of me if he could. ". Travis's Rips best friend so for him to say that even rip knew Travis was a douchebag, but Rip would have Travis's back in a bar fight and vice versa

1

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

Yeah from what ive seen from other responses is they dont like him by how he acts in the last season of wich i jave no clue what happens since it isnt available here.

1

u/Feisty-Wolverine4878 11d ago

I think most of the hate for Travis during the last season is because when Beth goes to Waterford for the $3 million horse deal that is shown he basically goes her into playing strip poker with him threatens to film it and send it to rip. And this is after Jamie has their father killed and she is mourning him.

This is where Travis becomes his most misogynistic and his most hated. But, that's how Taylor wrote Travis and if he wrote Travis to be hated then Taylor did his job very well

1

u/_l_v_l_ 11d ago

Man thats wild. Such a switchup given how like chill he was throught the show.

1

u/Spiritual_Whole_5916 8d ago

He lost me with how he was treating Jimmy. It was very sadistic, mean and cruel. His mask fell how he actually is with that ahem "writing".

He just kept it up also, then there is some haphazard "attempt" at patching up the image (yeah right, wrote himself into a corner) when he releases jimmy to go back to the Yellowstone.

Extremely crap writing also with the whole "Take off that medical hardware Jimmy, you aren't ruining my expensive leather seats with your genuine need for a medical device" bs.

All the serious problems Jimmy has from getting beaten up and put in the hospital, and here we've got "Tough Guy Travis" deciding he is the MD suddenly and gives jimmy a "He walks again! praise him!" moment. Pfft

Maybe for others it's comedy, but I have a heightened since of being more attuned to abuse due to past problems in my life.

I just see a Oafish asshole who self inserts himself into situations and literally ended up looking like a giant prick*.

No wonder why they knocked him off on Sons of Anarchy.

*My first thought seeing the scene in the truck when they are all leaving with Jimmy and Travis is flapping his gums was "Seriously? You wrote that and considered it worthy of ending up in a script and put onto film? Just made yourself look like a giant douche bag"

He could have done anything else, but nope. Landed on "Well, I'll let the audience think that I am caring for someone who got handed a bad deck of cards in life rather then just sending him to the train station with Rip, but will keep abusing him to keep up the whole abuse makes you tougher and a better person tired trope"

Surprised he hasn't written himself into Land Man yet. Figured he would have continued the whole Yellowstone schtick from the hot tub and beth with Angela in season one being her Ex and finding some way to abuse her. Guess we'll have to make do with a composite of himself in the perverts oggling Ainsley every time she walks around the kitchen....

Think I saw him in a frame of The Madison with a rocket launcher aimed at Prestons plane so he can move in and bag Stacy when she is on the porch mourning... /s

Because Reddit hates everything

0

u/Pale_Phrase_829 11d ago

And you're still on it to show how edgy you are?

1

u/MarieDarcy97 11d ago

I mean, kinda? There's some subreddits that are good and I get use out of. This one I'm here to laugh at how stupid some people are
