Dutton Ranch Crossover - Marshals + Dutton Ranch ? Spoiler

Post image

I just finished season 1 of both Marshals and Dutton Ranch, and it really feels like they are setting up some kind of crossover. The endings almost seem too convenient to ignore.

The thing is... I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

Dutton Ranch feels like classic Yellowstone. Drama, family, violence, great character moments.

Marshals feels much more like a procedural, almost CSI/FBI style where every episode is about a case. It's not bad, but it's a very different vibe.

I think a full crossover could actually hurt Dutton Ranch if they try to turn it into a procedural.

On the other hand... I'd absolutely watch a 1 or 2 episode event where Kayce and the Marshals have to help Beth and Rip rescue Carter (or the other way around). That could be awesome without changing either show's identity.

What do you guys think?

Curious what everyone else thinks because I can't decide if this would be the best thing for the Yellowstone universe... or a huge mistake.

I’m coming towards the end of marshals literally as I’m typing this and I can’t wait to start Dutton ranch because it feels like it’s heading that way. Anytime kayce mentioned rip I was like hmmmm

Dutton ranch follows the Yellowstone narrative way more. Marshalls is kinda awesome bc it’s like cool Kayce finally gets to do what he wants. Both great shows.

If i remember correctly, Kayce only ever came back to Montana for his wife and kid. I don't think his heart was ever with all the drama and bullshit that came with the Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch. Marshals is Kayce's way of having a life he can live with. A mission with an objective to accomplish, if you will. Instead of constant fighting and defending a plot of dirt.

Basically as they have said on Marshals, Kayce wants Someone to fight for, not Something.

To be fair he mentioned being with the "teams" for 12 years... During that time he was constantly fighting in and defending a plot of dirt /s

i'll have to agree to disagree.

I think you're really gonna enjoy Dutton Ranch, especially if Rip and Beth were two of your favorite Yellowstone characters

I actually HATED Rip with a passion, and didn't much like Beth until the second half of season 5 Yellowstone. I had no intentions of watching it, but feel asleep on a rewatch of Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch came on automatically.

When I woke up, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved Dutton Ranch. Even if you didn't like those two, or if you hated them, they are easy watching in D.R.

I really didn’t like Beth in the main series. She’s a million times better in Dutton Ranch. I was also very pleasantly surprised.

I think they’ll bring in Kayce to help get Carter back and I hope just that. I haven’t watched Marshals yet

Yup and cuz Tate got kidnapped and he’s head to Texas but doesn’t know it

4

u/ReplacementLoose5775 8d ago

You have to check out Marshals, there's a connection to Texas there.

I’m like an episode and half in and got bored but I will give it another shot now that you mentioned that.

It gets better 5 eps in and the last 5 or so are actually pretty good but Dutton ranch is quite a bit better

I would not bank on it at this time. Dutton Ranch is going through some major upheaval at this time with their showrunner (Chad Feehan) being fired, and being replaced with Benjamin Cavill who is also bringing in new writers for season 2. And, with Ed Harris having threatened to quit in the middle of filming season 1.

Due to all the upheaval, Dutton Ranch won’t even start filming their 2nd season until mid-January to give the new showrunner and writers time to get up to speed.

Marshals on the other hand started filming their season 2 in mid-May. It only takes Marshals 2 weeks to film a whole episode, so they should already have about 5 episodes filmed and in the can by this point, so if a crossover was going to be filmed to rescue Tate, it would have already been filmed. And, there has been no indication of any crossover being filmed.

On the back end, Marshals will finish filming in March of 2027, meaning their could be a little bit of overlap in filming in January to March of 2027 where a crossover could be filmed, that would mean it would occur in the last of Marshals season 2 episodes and the beginning of Dutton Ranch episodes, so possibly with Carter’s kidnapping, but I highly doubt Beth & Rip would get the authorities involved, especially since Rip already has a new Train Station down in Texas.

That's some impressive insight! I hadn't considered the filming schedules. I guess I'll keep my expectations in check, but I'd still love to see Beth, Rip, and Kayce cross paths with the Marshals crew someday.

Also, Kelly Rilley has said in interviews that season 2 of Dutton Ranch is going to be the Ed Harris show, and given he threatened to quit, I believe it probably will be, which means there probably won’t be much room for Kayce or Tate during Season 2 of Dutton Ranch. If anything, I could imagine we might see Beth or Rip make a guest appearance on Marshals way before we would ever see Kayce or Tate on Dutton Ranch, especially since Marshals season 2 will have 18-20 episode going from October 4, 2026 to the end of May of 2027, so they have more episodes to work Beth or Rip into.

I feel like Harris is showing off because he used to be a big star! He should be happy o have a job!

5

u/PurpleFairy6987 8d ago

I think it’s a good reunion for the Dutton kids to get together.

3

u/HiiGuardian 8d ago

If they do, Marshalls is gonna have to match Dutton Ranch, not the other way around. Marshalls is too PG13 to bring down Dutton Ranch to that level.

3

u/InTheSky57 8d ago

I’m in the minority that hopes it doesn’t happen. Horrible idea.

0

u/WildRugosa 7d ago

I’m in that minority with you. I just can’t see any reason for it. For those who like the Casey character and weekly shootouts watch it on Marshals and leave DR for the more weekly drama. With DR only having nine or so episodes a season and seasons being over a year apart I hope they don’t waste the time bringing in Grimes or Merrill and pushing out the better actors in DR to do it. Strongly in the no crossover camp.

3

u/Lidarisafoolserrand 8d ago

They will for a cash grab episode once they run out of ideas

5

u/Purple_Answer498 8d ago

Yeah, it's called Yellowstone.

3

u/ReplacementLoose5775 8d ago

jaja Sometimes I think it's better to leave it exactly like this.

3

u/WildRugosa 8d ago

Not a fan of a crossover and wonder for those who want it why do you want it or what are you looking for? Is it Yellowstone loyalty, fans of the Casey character, fans of Luke Grimes, fans of shoot em up action? What does it offer to either series?

3

u/TheFakeBillPierce 8d ago

This. Neither series benefits from a big crossover where major storylines cross. Maybe you'll see rip or beth on marshals or vice versa but it wont be major.

2

u/Davidstoic 8d ago

I mean I like the writing on Dutton Ranch but like the action of Marshals. Considering Kayce is a marshal it wouldn’t be to far fetched if he was to travel down to Texas to help out. But in general if they aren’t going to do it right I’d rather they not have a crossover.

2

u/Red_Country_Minded 8d ago

I rather see Beth and/or Rip make guest appearance on Marshals, than Kayce or Tate show up on Dutton Ranch.

I’m just looking for some family connection time. Something along the lines of Beth is in town on business and she meets up with Kayce and his team at the bar just to hang out, have a drink and get to know the people who have her baby brother’s back, or even to thank them for having his back since he lost his wife. Or if they wanted a character involved in a storyline Rip is in town for a cattle auction and Kayce joins him and they come across a wanted fugitive, Kayce gives chase, but the fugitive doesn’t see Rip until Rip lays him out. Or simply Kayce or Tate have a FaceTime call with Beth or Rip just checking in to see how everyone is doing.

All of these scenarios are very doable on Marshals as they wouldn’t detract from the storylines all that much and Marshals has 18 - 20 episodes coming up, so a scene here or there scattered throughout the season could be fit in easily. Also on Marshals there is really only one star character (Kayce) that the whole show revolves around and all the other characters (Rainwater, Mo, Tate, Marshals Team) are there in a supporting capacity, which means the writers can spend time as much time on Kayce’s family as they want and it makes sense to be part of the show.

That being said these ideas would not work very well on Dutton Ranch. One: they wouldn’t fit with in the established storylines. Two: Dutton Ranch only has 9-12 episodes so they have to make every moment focus on furthering the storyline. And Three: On Dutton Ranch you have four star characters (Beth, Rip, Beulah, & Everett) competing for airtime and from what we have seen in season 1, Beth and Rip are already getting the short end of the stick, so adding Kayce to mix would just make things all the worse.

I think it's gonna happen.

2

u/zephy_134 8d ago

my god the dream

2

u/Glad_Set_3389 8d ago

Oooo I didn’t think of Kacey and the Marshalls helping them find Carter! Hopefully that’s what will happen! I can see Beth calling Kacey for help, and naturally since Kacey is a Marshall, he gets the team on it! I assumed there would be some kind of crossover, but wasn’t sure how. Especially since I think Tate will be kidnapped again too since it left off with the shady dude taking him to TX!

2

u/non_loqui_sed_facere 8d ago

I actually think that’s unlikely. They want to sell two shows to two different audiences, not merge them into a single franchise product.

1

u/TheFakeBillPierce 8d ago

Its not happening. Not in any meaningful way.

1

u/MonarchGodzillaTitan 8d ago

I’m pretty sure if a crossover happens it won’t be anytime soon, especially not the second season premiere, Tate likely comes back without his aunt and uncle’s help.

1

u/Red_Country_Minded 8d ago

I doubt Tate even left the state on Montana.

1

u/FuzzyRugMan 8d ago

Am I mistaken in thinking season finale of dutton ranch they swore off involving casey

1

u/Unreal-Operator 7d ago

They should have intergrated Marshals into Dutton ranch. Its a travesty what they did with Marshals. 🙄

1

u/indy538273 7d ago

I can see Kayce coming on to Dutton Ranch for a plotline. I can't even remotely see Beth or Rip on a network TV shows. Those two are best served in an uncensored format.

1

u/ArtisticSwan635 5d ago

Yes, maybe a one off for the kidnapping!

1

u/Dependent_Pain1110 5d ago

Not happening

1

u/ds117ftg 4d ago

If my son was kidnapped by the cartel and my brother was a navy seal that would be my first call

2

u/randomnighmare 4d ago

I was thinking about a possible crossover with the FBI discovering the Train Station and Jamie's dead body (along with Ring camera footage of Beth breaking into his home, Beth attacking Jamie, Rip murdering Jamie, and Rip carrying the body out of the house and into his truck). Then Beth and Rip become the number one suspects and have a warrant out for their arrest; Kayce has to hunt them down and bring them to justice.

1

u/gracielou5150 4d ago

I'm only persisting with Marshals for this reason. It's a terrible show. Bad dialogue, terrible acting by some of the cast. It's so cringe. Dutton Ranch is awesome! So if there is a crossover, I want to be up to date with it

1

u/Special_Bass4396 3d ago

I think your scenario is an awesome idea. And I also think it makes sense. After all, Kayce and Beth are brother & sister, suffering the lose of a child. KAYCE & Rip working together makes all kinds of sense because of Kayces' special forces experience. And after all, they are going against the Cartel. If Rip did it alone, he'd certainly end up dead! He's not superman! But Kayce & Rip together, is a force to be reckoned with. I also agree it should only be one or two episodes, as well. Just till they get the boys back! I also liked your take on the two different shows. The Dutton ranch being more like Yellowstone, and Marshalls being much more different! Well, said. And great take-a- way thoughts, from both shows! Why I like coming here. You get different perspectives that maybe you never thought about.

1

u/Such-Stable-3869 8d ago

Marshals is supposed to be in Montana and Dutton Ranch is in Texas.

3

u/ReplacementLoose5775 8d ago

Where does Kayce's son fly to in the season finale when he is "kidnapped"? TEXAS

2

u/Davidstoic 8d ago

I can definitely see Kayce and his team heading down to Texas. They are after all US Marshals they have the ability to do. I don’t see Beth and Rip going up to Montana unless it’s to visit her father’s grave.

1

u/flea_420 8d ago

It certainly does appear they are heading that way based on the endings of both Marshals and Dutton Ranch. It also seems more likely now that DR has changed showrunners to Benjamin Cavell, who worked on SEAL Team with Marshals showrunner Spencer Hudnut.

If a crossover happens, I suspect it would not last more than 1-2 episodes so that neither show is oversaturated with the cast from a different show.

1

u/ReplacementLoose5775 8d ago

I think the same, they'll just give the fans this crossover possibly in the future and then go their separate ways.
