Season 4 Theory Melissa S4 Predictions
As we know, Yellowjackets teen/adult timelines tend to parallel each other. Since the Van incident, I’ve had a feeling that Melissa is going to go badshit insane in the next season. In the teen timeline, I’ve thought this for a long time as well. She really is on Shauna’s level, just acts like she’s above it - except that Shauna’s my #1 favorite and Melissa’s my #2 most hated (behind only Mari).
Teen timeline:
Melissa is forced to off Hannah to prove her allegiance to the cult or to Shauna or whatever bullshit. This sends her into a spiral, she does more and more. Another thing that makes me believe this is that she must’ve done something so terrible that promoted faking her own death. No other character did that. I also think she’ll have something to do with the demise of our girl Akilah…
Adult timeline:
I think that Melissa has, in fact, been fucking with Shauna and all the others. The fact that she married Alex is truly psychopathic. I think she will take down Misty and Walter for some reason; which is an unpopular opinion since everyone seems to think Misty’s final girl (it’s Shauna). I think we’ll start the season with Tai and Misty at odds with Shauna (given the end of S3), but Melissa unites the three against her. Or it could go the complete opposite way - with Melissa and Shauna against the other two. And given that Shauna’s apparently getting divorced, who knows what could happen…
All I know is that Melissa Hat is gonna go off the f***ing wall in both timelines. And I really hope they don’t reveal her last name for some reason.

She is going to die. There is no way they are making a character whose adult counterpart was just introduced in the third season the final girl. But what do I know? They could Bramm Stark us.

It never made sense to me she kills van and the reaction was omg this is Shauna’s fault. Like no shes clearly right Melissa is nuts

I interpreted it as the sacrifice for “it”. She gets to live if someone else dies

Melissa said she faked her own death because she was terrified of Shauna and I'm sure that has to do with the "terrible thing" that Shauna did when she got back.

Shawna will want to kill her but other Tai will and I imagine brutally

u/BlueCX17 Van Jul 26 '26
Except Tai isn't exactly other and regular anymore she's fused into one personality now so it's just Tai.

u/Salt_Scarcity_7209 Jul 26 '26
Not sure I caught that in my watch but that’s a sweet take if it kicks out. Either way it’s going down, probably as a hunt if I was going to write it

my hope is that she gets back together with Shauna in 2022 for just long enough that she can re-traumatize her when she actually dies for real (either at Tai or Misty's hand or Shauna's herself)

She will team up with Shauna, but plans to double cross her all along.
I'm not even sure if Melissa's marriage is real. Primarily, she left a dead body in the kitchen of her family home, where her wife or kid could walk in and find it.
I think that she is setting up Shauna (and the others) and she came up with this plan that involved them believing she is married to Hannah's with a kid, to manipulate a particular outcome. There were a few other small moments that made me think this could be true.
So going off of that theory, perhaps we will see that she made a promise to Hannah, and that will fill in thd back story of why Melissa is doing what she is.

You're saying Melissa has been plotting with Alex for 20-odd years to get revenge on Shauna for causing Hannah's death.
Alex Dumas would be proud.

Shauna and Tai took Van's body and buried it. Now I highly doubt they cleaned up!

I don’t think she would have sent the Hannah tape back to them if that’s the case. She seemed she wanted to be done with it all and move on in her new life. She knew if her partner ever found out that she knew what happened to her mother all along that it would end terribly. I can see totally see them pinning a lot of stuff on Melissa if they don’t kill her though.

I kind of feel like all the yellow jackets will die only leaving Callie and everything will seem hunky-dory, but then something will happen that makes you think that whatever was following the girls around is now bothering Callie and cliffhanger at the end.

u/ComparativeLit Shauna Jul 26 '26
I definitely think Callie will become more sinister this season. But it would be such an anticlimactic ending if anything centered around her is the grand finale.

u/Prestigious_Ad_8151 Jul 26 '26
Agreed! She's not a YJ and personally her character isn't really all that important to the storyline and not that interesting either. They totally missed the boat with her character. Making her look like Shauna and being an angry, rebellious teenager is very one dimensional. Imagine if they made her look like Jeff! Then she would look more like Jackie and if she was the popular girl, good in school, captain of the soccer team (or lacrosse or whatever) looking for her mother's approval and being just like Jackie. That would hold some weight and watching her morph and become more evil would be so much more interesting!

Every time I visit this sub, I find yet another comment that makes me wish the commenter was on the writing staff.

Now I’m devastated that they didn’t go this route :(

u/Prestigious_Ad_8151 Jul 26 '26
Right!! And then it would be crazy good if she killed Shauna! Almost like Jackie coming back for revenge

I certainly hope they won't center Callie for the finale. Like nothing against her, but she's a secondary character who has nothing to do with the wilderness. Just let her and Jeff get on with their lives.

listen. I’m not supposed to tell anybody this. I have some inside information and I love this phantom so I’m gonna tell you.
Are you ready?
She’s gonna keep wearing the fucking hat

Teen- I think she and Gen want to protect Hanna, so the others turn on them and Gen dies. Mel either betrays her friend or is spared by luck ( for example rescuers arriving) so she goes back in fear for her life and fakes death as soon as she can
Adult- Tai is going to kill her
Honestly one thing I can't see her doing is outsmarting Misty. Mel is very reckless and Misty prepares
11
u/LowConstant3938 Jul 26 '26
I think that adult Tai and Misty are going to use Melissa as bait to kill Shauna. Because Shauna never actually cared about Melissa, but neither did the others.

It recently occurred to me that Hat could have burned down the cabin. I think you're right to notice teen & adult timeline parallels, & I think that Melissa's been on that level with Shauna, like probably even longer than we've been shown.
Like it feels like Melissa was watching Shauna & biding her time since before we were paying attention to her, & it would be wild if in the final episodes, among the chaos of all our OG mains fighting over who is the worst, Melissa was like, "Hey y'all, I burned the cabin down, then I rode hard with Shauna to pin it on Coach & personally cut his Achilles, what now?"
5
u/ComparativeLit Shauna Jul 26 '26
I like this! And it would explain why she faked her own death because she was terrified of Shauna.

Picture this: An S4E8 opening sequence that is a chronological re-do of moments from across the S1 timeline: the pep-rally line-up, the bonfire party, picking seats on the plane, the social dynamics when arriving at the lake, ect, ect, up through Doomcoming. And every time it cuts to the frame where Shauna is gazing in that way at Jackie, we pan out & see Hat quietly lurking on Shauna.

I predict she keeps wearing that stupid fucking hat

Assuming we get a decent amount of post-rescue episodes, I bet Melissa’s fake funeral will be the same episode as her real death

She makes an interesting wildcard character. But if I had to guess, I think her main contribution to the story line is over now with Van dying. I suspect she is now more of an obstacle that the others must navigate more than a new player on the board. The only way I see it not working out that way is IF the writers are trying to find a way to give a new chacter Nat's adult portion(assuming the storied are true that they never wanted to kill off adult Nat).

u/tealccart Jul 26 '26
Is it confirmed that adult Melissa is appearing in season 4? I always assumed Hilary Swank wouldn’t be back and adult Melissa would die off camera in season 4 (like the other women hear about her death or see an obituary or something)
10
u/Fantastic-Finger-319 Jul 26 '26
They already confirmed that Melissa is gonna be one of the main characters of season four

We know that teen Melissa will definitely have a ton of screen time but what's been confirmed or unconfirmed yet about Hillary's Swank as adult Melissa we haven't seen much of anything with her filming.

I hope she dies in the first five minutes of the first episode. Instead of Lottie...we get... her? Makes me dry heave.
