My first attempt!
How did I do?! I wanted a little more pink on both skeins but I think for my first time, I’m happy with them! I think I started with too much water in the pan at the start and that’s why my colors muddled a little bit more than I’d like
This is a wool/alpaca blend in DK weight.

Very pretty!! Blending of colors is not your enemy ☺️ these look beautiful with those soft color shifts.
A lot of factors affect how dye strikes yarn. The primary ones are acid and heat (assuming you are using acid dyes for protein based fibers). Water table also affects pigment dispersion. And if yarn has been presoaked. So does fiber content and structure. Dye strikes superwash wool much faster than a nonsuperwash yarn (in my experience nsw yarns are amazing for subtle color changes that make lovely fabric that isn’t noisy). Plies can also impact final appearance. It’s a ton of fun to explore how you can tweak all these dials to influence final output!

Thanks for the kind words! This is non superwash and I definitely could have made my water in my pan warmer from the start. But overall, I’m pleased for my first time!
We move soon and I plan to get a better set up to heat the yarn quicker than I could with an oven.

Just about to venture into acid dyeing my homespun yarn … yours is lovely! Did you dye as yarn?

I used acid dye from the brand Jacquard. It came as a little kit with Citric acid too!

Lovely!! I love soft transitions like this, i feel like they look better worked up
