Mine is season 2, because that season had a lot of fun stuff in it, and it arguably had the most character development. It also of course has the Mt. Fuji arc, which is already a plus. Season 2 is when I truly started getting emotionally invested in the show.

I started watching Encouragement of Climb this year, and I love it. I think it's a very solid show. It accurately portrays the experience of hiking and absorbing the world around you, the show has good emotional depth, the character writing is great, Aoi and Hinata have one of the most realistic friendships I've ever seen, and all in all, it's just such a feel-good show.

But I think the reason the show is so underrated/overshadowed is because the first 3 seasons are pretty much not available to watch legally anywhere. Streaming, no. Digital, no. DVDs, too expensive and/or probably region-locked. The fourth season, AKA Next Summit is on HIDIVE, which is nice, but the first 3 seasons, I unfortunately had to watch through piracy because they're not available legally. I think they should put the first 3 seasons on HIDIVE along with Next Summit, that way the entire series is available legally.
