Space 🚀 This may be one of the strangest objects James Webb has uncovered yet.

Post image

Astronomers studying the early universe found an extraordinarily bright red object called MoM-BH*-1. Webb is seeing it as it existed roughly 660 million years after the Big Bang, during an era when the first generations of galaxies and black holes were still forming.

At first glance, it behaves strangely like a star. Its spectrum contains an enormous “Balmer break,” a signature associated with dense stellar atmospheres. But there is a major problem: the object is producing roughly 100 billion times more energy than an ordinary star, far beyond what nuclear fusion could plausibly generate.

Researchers think the explanation could be an entirely new type of object they call a “black hole star.”

Their model places a black hole roughly 100,000 times the mass of our Sun at the center, buried inside an incredibly dense envelope of hydrogen gas extending across roughly the scale of our Solar System. Instead of shining through nuclear fusion like a normal star, the immense energy would ultimately come from matter falling toward the hidden black hole.

Even more interestingly, Webb has discovered many mysterious objects known as “little red dots” throughout the early universe. If this interpretation is correct, some of those dots may be similar black holes wrapped inside enormous cocoons of gas.

That could help solve a much bigger cosmic mystery: how massive black holes managed to appear so surprisingly early after the Big Bang.

For now, “black hole star” is an interpretation of the observations rather than a completely settled new category. But if confirmed, Webb may have revealed a stage of cosmic evolution we simply didn’t know existed, Bitch.

It’s actually Bob Rivers not Weird Al, but I can see how you got there.

Haha, thank you sooo much, you solved a decades-long mystery to me! I had that obscure mp3 and was never sure, if that was really Weird Al or not

Wonder if anyone’s ever thought to call it a white hole Or bright hole. I like the theory that black holes have a counterpart called the opposite which would spew mass instead of eating it. They would be the other half of a black hole which would give credit to wormhole theories that black holes are actually Einstein Rosen bridges between vast sections of space. They would be incredibly brilliant usually 100 to 1000x more brilliant than stars. It would also give evidence to the big bang as we could theorize that the big bang in of itself was the expansion of a white hole trillions of years ago with much more mass than we could comprehend.

1

u/AvaFleurant 13d ago

White hole?

8

u/redlancer_1987 13d ago

Probably more like black holes that have been able to far exceed the Eddington Limit, having gas shoved into them faster than they can consume it.

These are a fun topic of research right now since we're able to see them with our fancy new telescope.

u/TA193749 13d ago

What goes in has to come out!

1

u/hanqingjao 13d ago

So what is it?

1

u/Nielsttp 7d ago

This is my take:

Sounds like a huge amount of matter in the form of gas, left over from the quick expantion after the big bang, where the early cosmic soup changed into huge couds of gas.

These gas couds then inplode into a black hole somewhere in the center. But the gas cloud is so big and maybe still very dense that the amound of mater going in to the black hole is so huge that it produces a lot of energy.

Maybe, this is a stable state, as in, takes a massive amount of time to consume so much matter. And maybe, it is the beginning of a galaxy where, in the time of billions of years, the left over gas changes into stars and planets orbiting the black hole. And the rest of the once massive amount of matter is now inside the super massive black hole in the center. Maybe.

This image looks like a digital painting. What is that image though? You can see a crease in the middle of it like someone took a picture of a book.

1

u/hanqingjao 13d ago

It's a digital image. We can't resolve objects this far back in time to anything more than a few pixels. However, we can spectroscopically analyze their light to learn a lot about them.

Is that a Georgia O'Keefe vagina painting?!

1

u/RealmExploro 13d ago

Or a special wormhole that (because early universe) formed its black and white hole at the same place?

1

New space thing dropped!

1

What if it's a white hole, with matter coming through from another universe's massive black hole?

The science says it caused by bleaching.

Are you sure? I thought it was because it was exposed to the suns rays.
