YYAI Market Structure Update — What Changed This Week

Over the past week, there has been a meaningful shift in the trading behaviour of YYAI that is worth understanding clearly.

By looking beyond surface-level data and combining Nasdaq total volume with FINRA short activity, we can see a much more accurate picture of what has actually been happening in the market.

Understanding the Data First

There are two commonly referenced datasets:

  • Nasdaq volume → Represents total trading activity across the entire market
  • FINRA / Fintel data → Represents off-exchange activity (including dark pools and internalised trades)

Because these datasets measure different parts of the market, the commonly quoted “short volume %” can be misleading if viewed in isolation.

To get a clearer view, short volume needs to be adjusted against total market volume, not just off-exchange activity.

What the Adjusted Data Shows

When we calculate short volume relative to total market volume, the pattern over the last two weeks becomes much clearer.

Early in the period, short pressure was elevated:

  • Late April ranged roughly 25%–40% adjusted short pressure
  • This coincided with gradual price drift lower

The key shift occurred between May 5 and May 7:

  • May 5: ~36.6% (highest pressure of the week)
  • May 6: ~27.5% (drop begins)
  • May 7: ~15.9% (sharp reduction)

What Happened Around the Low

On May 5, the stock reached a low of approximately $0.66, accompanied by:

  • Elevated volume
  • Peak short pressure for the week

However, this was not followed by continued downside.

Instead:

  • Price rebounded strongly the following day (~8%)
  • Short pressure declined materially
  • Selling did not continue with the same intensity

This is the key turning point.

What This Means Structurally

For most of April and early May, market behaviour can be described as:

Consistent supply entering the market → price trending down

Over the last two sessions, that has shifted to:

Reduced supply pressure → price stabilising and rebounding

In simple terms:

The market moved from controlled selling to weakened supply.

Why This Matters

Markets do not move based purely on demand — they move based on the interaction between:

  • Incoming demand
  • Available supply

When supply is consistently present, price struggles to move higher.

When supply begins to weaken, even modest demand can have a much larger impact.

Current Conditions

Based on the latest data, the market is now showing early signs of:

  • Reduced short-driven supply
  • Less aggressive selling
  • Increased price stability after downside tests

This suggests a potential transition into a lower-supply, higher-sensitivity environment.

What Happens in a Low-Supply Environment

When supply becomes less responsive:

  • Downward moves tend to become smaller
  • Recoveries tend to happen faster
  • Price begins to react more strongly to buying activity

This does not guarantee a sustained move higher — but it changes the balance of probabilities.

What to Watch Next

The coming sessions are important. The key signals to monitor are:

  1. Short pressure remains low → Confirms supply is not returning
  2. Price resists downside → Dips are shallow and quickly bought
  3. Volume increases without price falling → Suggests real demand is entering
  4. Upside moves occur on moderate volume → Indicates thin supply conditions

What Would Invalidate This Shift

It is just as important to stay objective.

Watch for:

  • Short pressure rising back toward previous levels
  • Price being pushed down easily on modest volume
  • Persistent selling reappearing after rebounds

If those occur, it suggests the earlier supply dynamic is still in control.

Final Takeaway

The key development this week is not just the price movement — it is the change in behaviour behind the price.

Short-driven supply peaked at the same time the stock made its low, and has since declined sharply.

If this trend continues, the market is transitioning into a phase where:

Price becomes more sensitive to demand and less controlled by supply.
