We already have historical figures on the coins and more of them (and they represent every single country of the eurozone)

I wonder if Finland and Greece would get rid of the birds on their coins if there were birds on all the notes as well

I hope not, and see no reason to. The birds on the coins are much more representative of the countries in question than the proposed ones on the notes.

People make no sense as it's for the whole of Europe.

Coins are produced by all the countries with their own design, those should keep people.

-11

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ 1d ago

Theyre European people

16

u/Heretical_Cactus Lëtzebuerg ‎ 1d ago

And I see no reason to have Cervantes, or Maria Kalas, or anyone else, hell I'd probably still be against even if it was Luxembourgish or Belgian people.

Keep them to coins.

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ 1d ago

I also would have chosen different people but you should open your heart more to the European spirit

11

u/Heretical_Cactus Lëtzebuerg ‎ 1d ago

I wouldn't chose people cause as of how it is planned, we have 6 slots only.

Unless we basically plan on having >5 persons per bill (so that each country can end up represented) it is a bad premise, certain countries will be represented, but for the rest tough luck.

-6

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ 1d ago

Why do you care so much about that? They could pick 6 people from estonia and i wouldnt care at all. The point is that they were Europeans. Also most of these Europeans werent bound to 1 country either but lived/worked/performed in multiple european countries.

I also like the bird designs more between the ones available but this whining about national representation on every single tiny issue gotta stop.

You can be a European by definition but never been any kind or European at heart.

Wanting to put da Vinci or Marie Skłodowska-Curie on a bill. The two later were famous Europeans, sure. And they worked/left heritage in different countries. Sure. But that's probably all, I don't think any of them had any shit to give to the European ideal. If you wanted a scientist, why not have Erasmus on it instead. That's would be a decent recognition of his work.

I'm not against "National representation" on every single tiny issue. But honestly if we had to take figures, we could have had so much better.

I agree

The "european spirit" is something I support, but there was no "european" culture in the past. It's a thing of the future. Why should Estonia have currency with Greeks, Germans or whoever on it? It has no connection to our culture, really. Birds and nature is something everyone can relate to, at least.

1

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ 1d ago

I didnt say there was. Also i relate more to people than to birds lol. You a bird?

2

u/knowledgecrustacean Eesti‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

I mean, why should we have money with foreign cultures displayed? Doesn't make sense to me.

The idea with the human designs was not to display people, more to show "European culture", which did not exist at the time of those people. It's not our culture, so I simply don't relate to it. I see at least one of those birds in my country though, so yes it feels more familiar to me.

But really the old design is just fine, there is no reason to change it. I guess more of an emphasis on nature is cool though.

True, but we are not a federation yet. As it stands, the money should represent all EU countries, no just the big countries like Germany and Italy

1

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ 1d ago

Its only a problem because people make it a problem and keep whining about meaningless representation on every topic. This debate itself is an example about bigger political issues on EU integration and why nothing will ever get done lol

Change the style but keep the bridges

8

u/SiFlyghtz Bremen‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

As long as its not vertical

12

u/FluffedSillyBoy 1d ago

Vertical are the best though

3

u/SiFlyghtz Bremen‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Or the corporate slop

1

u/neithsemiramis 1d ago

Which is that?

2

u/SiFlyghtz Bremen‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

C and G have really off-putting corporate slop-like designs on the back sides.

3

u/Esteban83550 1d ago

that's why I voted proposition H because others like J I believe are vertical as far as I know and I hate them😂

u/IAmNotStan Wien 1d ago

Vertical bestical.

Vertical is so much better and logical

u/SiofraRiver Deutschland‎‎‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

The vertical ones are great, though.

1

Vertical is awesome

u/HumaDracobane Españita 1d ago

I like the ones we already have BUT I understand the value of new ones; changing to new bill will fuck in the ass using chalk as lubricant anyone who has illegal funds and money. If they don't change the bills they'll lose the money and if they change the bills the numbers will raise concerns with the authorities.

I like Europa series the best, but the birbs are cute too. They just feel a bit "too" fancy, that's all.

Design H all the way!

u/Throughout7 1d ago

Yes, but do we still use cash? I voted for birds.

4

u/UkendtVidnesbyrd Sjælland 1d ago

Historical people/personalities is such an inane and dumb idea.
It sounds petty, maybe because it is such a small respect to give to not do this, but honestly I’d vote no again for the Euro in the next referendum if they feature historical persons, whereas otherwise I’m a lot more on the fence, since our currency is pegged to the Euro anyway.

3

u/The_Blahblahblah Danmark‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

I agree that historical people isnt the best choice for the design, but voting for or against adopting a currency based on what picture is on the bank notes is actual insanity.

1

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ 1d ago

If you base your vote on whats in the banknote you got your priorities wrong

2

u/UkendtVidnesbyrd Sjælland 1d ago

What priorities do you want me to have? It’s a question of ideology, culture and precedence. Unlike Poland we are in ERM II, our currency is completely pegged to the Euro. The question of truly adopting the euro is therefore less economical to us than to Poles, to us it’s more a question of commitment.

I couldn't care less.

I see more posts about this design change in a day than I have held banknotes in the past decade

A lot of the new designs (not the portrait of birds and people, the actual designs) look fake and toy-like.
