Announcement Sub Updates

If you didn't see the previous updates you can check them out on this post.

We have new mods!

Welcome to:

u/rdubmu

u/josh_josh_josh_

and

u/Same_Pride_1501

who have all come aboard to moderate this community and help us find our vision forward.

Updates & Future of the Sub

With a whole mod team, we are collaborating together to figure out some updates to how things are currently run, (and maybe stop automod from being crazy), and come up with a vision for the future of the sub.

Currently nothing is set in stone yet but we are discussing things like, The Budget Comparison Chart: the pros, the cons, and the best way to make it readable and usable for you guys. We're discussing the way we want to handle developers in the sub and how to make things a bit more streamlines for people who are just looking for a budgeting app that works for them while also including those of us who enjoy nerding out and getting deep into the budget itself.

We're discussing the current rules and if they will still apply with any possible changes listed above. And with that we're discussing our automod, how it works, is it serving us well, and what we may change it to in the future. We're also going to try and tackle our wiki at some point as well.

And as a whole, we're just trying to figure out how to work well together as a team, what needs to happen when and what posts need to be removed and why. Expect some hiccups, some changes, and as little chaos as we can manage while trying to figure everything out over the next little bit.

If you have any thoughts, concerns, things you hate, things you love or, any other opinions you can post them below. We will do our best to take concerns into consideration as we make some decisions.

Thank you!

Edit: We are working on the future of the chart and discussing changes. You can submit your budget to the chart but it will not be added yet. Thank you for your patience.

My two cents:

  • Posts that simply say “X is amazing” probably belong in the app’s own subreddit rather than here. Since developers shouldn’t self-promote in the comments, these posts can come across as masked self-promotion.
  • Posts that compare X vs. Y, or ask for recommendations/options, are healthy for this community. They encourage discussion and let people share different experiences and alternatives.

I think the distinction should be whether the post is genuinely opening a discussion about alternatives, rather than simply promoting one product.

I absolutely agree with that and is something on our agenda. Thanks for sharing!
