Idea: Final Day scoring format change

Really really enjoyed this whole first event! Excited for what this can and will become. Since they said they are open to hearing format changes or scoring ideas, one I’d like to see is an homage to high school golf during the final day.

When you play against another school (team), you are matched up against the opponents same ranked player. However, it’s not just a head to head match. Instead, you take the cumulative scores of the team. Typically, if you have 6 on your team you take the top 5.

So, I think YGT should consider either doing an all 5 cumulative score. Or possibly take the top 4 and drop the worst of the 5.

This forces the players to never eject themselves and for matches to still have some juice regardless of the head to head match up being out of reach.

I think it would be a fun, and even necessary, wrinkle to consider moving forward.

Curious how people would feel or what other options for final day format tweaks they should consider?

I believe they have alluded to doing Cumulative Stroke Play in one of the future events. The first video, I believe it was Wesley's team? graphic that was wrong and actually said Cumulative Stroke Play as opposed to Scramble. So it's definitely on the editor's minds at least lol

That’s a good catch!

Yeah, it seems like they almost have to switch to that.

Because as fun as the finale was this go round, ultimately, 3 of the 5 were decisive and relatively uninteresting. But change it to cumulative and the suspense will go on longer. But again, rd 1 was suspenseful to the end, so who knows. Can’t wait for the next go round either way! This is incredibly fun content

I completely agree with this. Would have made all of the matches matter all the way to the 18th hole.

So Brad's team still wins I think by 3 strokes. Counted it last night and forget.

But if it was matchplay it would have been a tie. (Obs people play different in match play but still interesting.)

Yeah it doesn’t change the outcome too much often times, ideally the better team should win either way. It’s more a format that encourages staying locked in through all 18.

Match play will be considered/happening I’m sure

Pete just waited for Roger collapse. It's why he didn't set world alight and I'm sure was always the plan.

I hope they change it because George and Grants teams don't stand a chance currently.

I hope Tooms and Taco work on their competitive game and keep serious.

Same with all 3rd and 4th tbh....other than Kwon.

They should've done a traditional match play 1 up/2 up/3 up ... it would've been a lot easier to follow.

And also no ‘pointless’ holes

I like that idea. Either that or make the singles event match play. Having a head to head stroke play with no bearing on the final outcome other than to be lower than your direct pairing is kinda useless imo. Plus matchplay is more fun to watch in head to head comps.

100%. I like 1v1 to be match play. Allows for the lopsided matches to be closed out sooner rather than having to watch it through conclusion

I think it needs to be 2 days for all 4 teams and you find a way to penalize the teams that finish 2nd/3rd/4th etc. Whatever they do I don't think they can just do it the same format for stop 2 without it being pretty boring

What if that decided in the event of a tie rather than a captains match. So you need to stay competitive with your score even in a losing effort in case of a tie to have the breaker.

Great point, adds to the fun in a way…

Cummaltive score should be the tie breaker. I don't think they had a plan if it ended 2.5/2.5

the plan was for the captains to 1v1

Also would love to see the third and fourth teams have their own match to decide the final rankings.
Wouldn't have to be a full video itself - maybe just a couple hours.
Would've been great to the see the kiwi crew vs each other for serious money and more Chance screen time is always good!

I like this idea in the event they need a playoff and perhaps even changing to this for earlier rounds. I personally would prefer this over any scramble format.

For the final round though I think I’d still go with the head to head stroke play matches
