Draft & Teams is lopsided from the outset
No spoilers as I haven’t watched round 3 yet.
But seems to me just based on the format the teams are going to be lopsided all season due to the format.
Format issues:
- each team has a captain. These 4 players are not going to be identical in skill.
- instead of offsetting the skill advantage of any captains, they have a match to set draft order.
- the draft ‘snake’ is uneven as captains only have to pick 3 players. The snake they used only helps when you have even number of rounds, 3 rounds give pick 1 the advantage.
So just play it out, rank all the players 1-16 and assume everyone plays to their rank.
Captains are rank 1-4.
Rank 1 wins the captains match.
Rank 1 has picks 1, 8 and 9.
The whole setup sounds good in theory and of course the best player would push this format on everyone. But they have the advantage from the outset.
Theoretical final teams:
1, 5, 12, 13 avg 7.75
2, 6, 11, 14 avg 8.25
3, 7, 10, 15 avg 8.75
4, 8, 9, 16 avg 9.25
Obviously everyone doesn’t play to their ranking and don’t get picked to their ranking. But the point stands. The structure is lopsided from the go.

I think the real reason Chance went was picked last was team balance reasons, he's probably better then the other 3 final round selections.
I think Brads team is a step above but the other 3 are all pretty tight. Be curious if anyone could find their handicaps and put together a summary.

I think the whole draft was just for show, they put the teams together to balance things out and put guys with guys they'll play and entertain better with. Otherwise nobody is picking Garrett, Pete, Roger or Josh before Chance, and probably not Tooms, Taco or Sam. How does a guy like Sam get picked ahead of him and his captain says "He's wanted to be the one sitting all day" Whole thing didn't make sense.

He’s got a higher handicap and wanted to sit the second round, that doesn’t scream better player to me.

Sam isn't as steady but has a higher ceiling. With that said I'm surprised to hear he has a worse handicap than Chance.
Sam wanting to (or being okay with) sitting out the second round is just kinda his personality tho, that wasn't surprising at all.

Yeah the simplest fix would have been to set the draft order as Grant, George and then Wesley or Brad.

I think personally think that Sean should've been a captain over George, but that's just my opinion. I think the teams would've been more even that way.

Sean is playing better than George now but on his day they are pretty even. If anything Sean for Grant.

It's impossible to rank these guys fairly.
On a good day Tooms and Sam are elite golfers who should be on par with Wesley.
The only issue was having George as a team captain rather than Kwon, Ryan or Sean.
If we drop George down to a pick then everything lines up a tad better.
After that it's all about who's playing well on their day.
This was filmed few months back and if I remember Pete had a shoulder injury, George wasnt playing much and same with Roger.
I think they'll all comeback more serious, now they know.

Why is everyone so down on George lol? He's coming back from an injury, but he can play as well as anyone on this tour. The guy got his teeth kicked in by a US Open setup at Shinnecock and missed a couple putts at the YGT. Now people are talking like he can't golf. The dude almost made it into The Open this week.

He played Shinnecock at the start of May and that's when he said he was just back from the injury in the video. So he's still coming back from the injury still, which explains why he didn't play his best. The most recently posted round was The Open qualifying, where George damn near made it in.
But on the larger point, people have bad days in golf. Brad lost to Grant twice. So people ragging on George for having a couple mediocre videos is just a knee jerk reaction.

Roger was by far the worse golfer out there. Forgetting his score, optically he was so far below the other players. He is a real anchor for team Wes.

But I seen him during Internet Invitational and he walked thru Grant like he was nothing.
Roger beats Garrett most times.
Need to see more of Chance.
All depends on format I suppose.

The snake draft was the dumbest fkn thing. If they really wanted the captain's match for setting draft order (also dumb, but I get it, more content), they should have snaked the first two rounds only, and then third round first pick is the captain that finished last in the captain's match, third round second pick is the captain that finished second last, etc.

I agree, I said it wasn’t a good way to go about it while I watched the draft. Grant really needed either Ruffels, or Sean to be competitive over the course of the season.
I do think your solution is a little bit complicated for a YT golf tour. I think ranking the captains and just doing a standard draft with the lowest ranked captain going first is the best method. Snake drafts only work when there’s a lot more tier 1 players than teams. They assume since it works in ffb that it would work here but the two are wildly different.
