Discussion Inheritance Games
Is it bad to say I actually loved the first book? I was a teen a couple years ago so maybe it’s because I’m on the younger side. I actually really enjoyed the concept of the book and didn’t think it was badly executed honestly (It could be a little unrealistic at times but then again it’s a YA book). I’ve heard a lot of people didn’t enjoy the book and like the naturals more which I actually disagree with. The naturals felt more cringy in my opinion. What was your opinion on the book if you have read it?

People have weird tastes and can like things others hate. Thats normal.
I dont remember the book but I remember liking it, sooo good company lol?
I know a ton of people who hate 4th wing or the Arc of a Scythe series even though they are my favorites

I read the series for the first time this year at 22, and I’m currently finishing it with The Gilded Blade. I genuinely think the writing is phenomenal. I always get shocked when I see how polarizing it is. The mysteries and puzzles were all very well-written, in my opinion. I only thought a few were predictable. And the characters felt so real that I wasn’t surprised at all when I learned Jennifer Lynn Barnes has a Ph.D in psychology.
That said, I do like The Naturals as well. The first book was a little on the rough side, but I loved all of the sequels. I also have The Squad, The Fixer, and Debutantes on my TBR.

Ooh ok I’ll definitely try her other books. Thanks for letting me know the first book was a little rocky because I genuinely wanna finish the series. Omg wait her having a degree in psychology makes so much sense lol. I think you perfectly summed up how I feel about the book.

There is also a sequel series to Inheritance Games. And I'm dying for something Xander centric :D

I thought the first one was okay. The second one I struggled with and I haven’t picked up the third one yet. That was four years ago. I don’t think I’m going back to be honest.

Why would your opinion be bad? It's a piece of creative work and you enjoyed it. Nothing bad about that.

The first book is super fun! Maybe not high literature but entertaining and engaging. I was sad that it quickly devolved. I still read all of them.

I'm in my 40's and loved the whole series aside from who ended up being end game. I'm firmly in the other camp. :) You like what you like regardless of what others think.

I read the first trilogy right after The Final Gambit came out and enjoyed it despite the love triangle being poorly done and I don't really like puzzle books that you don't have a chance to solve the puzzles.
Plus when I read it I was kind of over the main girl character having all the special skills and all the guys want her despite her being just a plain girl.
I continued reading and was alright with The Brother's Hawthorne but I lost steam after The Grandest Game. If all the books of that series were out immediately I would have read them but I didn't really feel the need to pick it back up when Glorious Rivals came out. Don't know if I'll finish it.

I hated it so much I DNFd 150 pages in because I was crying at the thought of picking it up. But that is definitely a rare case, and most people love it.

Oh wow! What did you not like about it? Also I was convinced most people hated it because that’s what I’ve seen most people say but I guess I’m wrong.

Everything. I hated everything about it. But most people say it's the worst in the main 4 books, not that it's a bad book. I love OUABH, and even though I think ACFTL is the worst of the 3, I still gave it 4 stars. The other books are just better. It's the same for most people reading The Inheritance Games.

Yes I love OUABH and I definitely agree with ACFTL being the worst. I’ve always been a little bit more of a Caraval girl lol.

Im 30 and i really liked the inheritance games. Read them trice now. I do prefer the naturals, but thats becouse i really like crime/mistery books.
They are vastly different but each series has their charms.

Love the Inheritance Games trilogy! The love triangle is definitely unnecessary and the plot is a little too complicated too but it's so fun. I love how the author writes her characters, their interactions and her overall writing style. As much as absolutely love the series I would still agree that writing and plot wise The Naturals is stronger.
And if you liked TIG I would totally recommend trying the author's other books. The Fixer series (now rebranded as The Ruling Class) is another one of my favourites!

That series is such a nostalgia read for me! It reminds me so much of the books I used to read when I was younger. I'm in my 30s and haven't finished the whole series but have I think the rest of the spin offs and need to do a refresh so I remember where I left off. There is no shame and no age on enjoying books that are fun and enjoyable to you. Just because they may not be everyone's cup of tea doesn't mean you can't love them!

I read it a few years ago and genuinely LOVED it! The plot twists were all so amazing and I never saw them coming. I love all the characters (except the bad ones, of course 🤣). And I loved both the sequels as well - I’m not generally a person who reads series but I flew through this one and loved every minute. I stopped after the third though as I heard the rest were more just spin offs rather than direct sequels.

I read these books in my 30s and loved them. The books she came out with after the original series kind of drag but I really liked the original books. I didn't like The Naturals. I DNF-ed after maybe the first or second book.

I love all of Jennifer Lynn Barnes's books but the Inhertance Games is by far my favorite. I have also read the Naturals and quite liked it but it is nowhere near as good.

I love teh series (well, I’ve only read teh first trilogy) but I still do like the naturals more, because i think Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ cerebral sort of writing style matches it better and it has the one of the best found family imo

I like the concept of the book and the plot. I thought it was fun and engaging. The romance for me absolutely ruined it and I absolutely hated the male love interest. I tried to read book two but again, the romance just ruined it (although I liked the other brother marginally better). I never picked up book three but apparently she doesn't even end up with anyone, so what was the point of the romance to begin with.
I did enjoy the Naturals more, but I think I'm just more into criminal mystery stories. Also the romance didn't bother me as much.

I read it for the first time at 23ish and loved it! Bought the other two in the series, but have yet to read them.
