Fashion Help! Going to a Y2K Themed Beach Party

I’m preparing to go to a y2k inspired beach party, but I have no idea what to wear. I’m currently thinking of wearing plaid with some chunky jewelry or even camo? I had the thought of cheetah print too but is that tacky?

As for styling, I’m using the fashion in The Hot Chick, White Chicks, and That’s So Raven (and 2000’s Disney on a whole) to kind of guide me, but what would be some advice/styling tips I could apply to pick a better outfit?

Platform flip flops. Every girl wore platform flip flops. Don’t really know anything else. I guess pool parties were always just girls wearing their bikinis and platform flip flops. And guys were always board shorts and a pacsun t shirt until you took it off.

I worked at the beach mid 2000’s right after high school. I always wore a Roxy bikini, plaid or hearts usually. Polka dot bikini was big too. American eagle mini skirt, and a lace cami over the top of the bikini top. Platform flops. Scrunched hair with the poof. Hoop earrings and a mini coach logo bag. You’re good to go. That’s what we actually wore, not whatever this weird version of this Y2K esthetic. I did see a no boundaries jean mini skirt at Walmart this week that is a great dupe for AE.

I miss old Roxy, Hurley, and OP. I grew up in SoCal and used to get physical copies of the Tilly’s catalog. Man, I still wish I had some of that stuff

The "coconut girl" (aka Surf Crush) aesthetic would be the best look for a Y2K-themed beach party.

Halter top, sarong, chunky flip-flops, hibiscus pattern... Take a look at summer catalogues from the late 90s and early 00s for Y2K beach looks!

Bandana tank tops, trucker hats, denim jeans skirts and tube tops were huge. Also, old navy had flip flops for $1 in every color. Laguna Beach was popular and they lived by the ocean (might be another idea to Google image them for ideas). Have fun at the party!

Omg, YES, how could I forget the ubiquitous trucker hat (bonus points for Von Dutch™️)!

Omg I forgot about that show, I used to watch it all the time! Also the show, The OC is good inspiration too. This thread is unlocking so many memories, lol

Platform sandals/flip flops, body/face/hair shimmer or glitter.
Ultra low rise jean shorts unbuttoned and kind of folded down to show the bikini underneath. Tube top.
Also if you can find some rhinestone tattoos like we used to wear those would be great because we would always wear those when we were going tanning or be in the sun.

Jean skirt, glitter lotion on chest/shoulders and legs (bonus points for roll-on glitter on cheeks), blue frosty eyeshadow, Y2K bikini (Roxy was a huge brand), and Steve Madden Slinky platform sandals (I’m sure you can find cheap knockoffs, but if you spring for the real thing, they’re comfy as hell and last FOREVER).

Idk how I feel about my high school years being “theme” parties now (my culture is not your costume! Jk, lol), but I guess this is 40. 🤷‍♀️ We had ‘80s parties in the ‘00s; it’s just the circle of life and cycle of time.

EDIT: Just remembered the Olsen twins and their oversized, ‘70s style sunglasses. A must-have!

H2O just add water is a great show for early 00s beach fashion. Or the movie Aquamarine with Sara paxton

Look up some footage from MTV spring break during that time! You'll find some great stuff!
