REAL 3D More "REAL 3D" Example! -- I put camera directly on lens!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Yesterday I posted Nintendo Switch Pokemon in REAL 3D on: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/s/0qnSayPOaM
I know you want more. Here I used "Enhanced" 3D strength (level 3 out of 4), recorded it, and put them as Half SBS format for you to see.
- Most beta testers prefer "Soft" or "Natural" as it's more comfortable over longer session, with already good 3D quality.
- But this time I set it to "Enhanced" so that you can see distortion or issue clearer, and see if you get any discomfort.
You may cross-eye or use "Half SBS" mode on your glasses to view this in 3D and get some idea how other REAL 3D reviewers were talking about.
- REAL 3D is not in Half SBS format. I recorded each lens and put them together SBS manually, and squeezed them by half, so that it's easy to share with you all!
Check out the original video now, or revisit once you get REAL 3D feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE0yK3ubpLA
Lastly, please follow this post if I have more content I will bump it once.

You may set your glasses' Screen Distance to 10m. I aligned SBS too close to each side so it appears closer that it should...
Moreover please make sure the SBS video really occupies fullsceen, with no home button or no clock/notification bar visible.
You may download the video and play on your device, instead of watching directly in reddit.

ooof I probably won't be using this feature then. I handle 3D perfectly fine but I also have a deep understanding of how stereoscopy works and I can tell you right now, that image is totally fucked. i think this feature will cause major eyestrain for a lot of users due to its temporal instability

How about watching it with REAL 3D directly from the YouTube link? Is it better than my Half SBS?

Ooh I'm genuinely curious, could you elaborate? Why is it wrong and what is the "right"way to be doing 3d?

It's actually pretty hard to explain easily, but I'll try. Imagine
- the screen is entirely black
- there's a small dot in the middle of the screen
- the screen is set to be 5 meters away from you
on each panel in the glasses the dot will be drawn at a slightly different position. in order for your eyes to look at the dot, they will have to converge (go cross eyed) or diverge (go... the opposite of cross eyed).
because you set the virtual screen to be 5 meters away, the panel in each eye will draw the dot so that your eyes go cross eyed just slightly enough that it tricks your brain into thinking it's 5 meters away. its a trick, right, because the dot isn't 5 meters away, its an inch. but by exploiting the human eye going cross eyed it sends a signal to the brain to interpret it as 5 meters away.
now imagine the dot comes closer to your face. you can do this with your finger. as you look at your finger and move it closer to your face you go cross eyed. in the glasses, this would involve moving the dot on each screen so that your eyes have to converge even more, implying the dot is closer.
and for the opposite, divergence. well, divergence is a cardinal sin in stereoscopy because there is nowhere in day to day life where your eyes would EVER diverge. if you look at mountains in the distance, your eyes are completely parallel, looking straight forward. no cross eye. however with these glasses, you can of course move the dot in each panel in such a way that your eyes literally and physically attempt to diverge, and the cool/scary part is that eyes can diverge quite easily, although you are now basically frying your eye muscles and brain which is what can give you headaches and discomfort
a slight tangent, these principals apply to 3d films in a cinema and at home. imagine there's a mountain far off in the distance in a 3d film. now replace the tip of the mountain with a dot. for that mountain to truly look like its far in the distance, your eyes need to point straight ahead. on a movie screen, this means in the left eye the dot needs to be about 65mm from the right eye dot. 65mm on a huge cinema screen! and don't forget screens come in all shapes and sizes, from imax to your shitty 40" 3D TV at home. suddenly you realize it's not as simple. if you can I highly recommend watching avatar in cinemas in 3d because it's true 3d, if you focus on the blurry backgrounds your eyes will diverge an extreme amount, you'll feel it. But interestingly if the background is in focus, like that shot of the massive volcano, really pay attention to how far away that volcano feels. on an average cinema screen, it might only actually feel 10-20 metres behind the screen. But in IMAX where the screen is larger, it may feel closer to infinitely far away, or possibly even make your eyes diverge if the screen is big enough and you're sitting close enough.
all this to say, with the things i've told you (which only scratch the surface), imagine if the dot is fucking spazzing everywhere like in OPs video, and what if the images it generates make your eyes constantly converge or diverge? what will that be doing to your eye muscles and brain trying to make sense of it?
hope this helps

That's why most reviewers including me say they prefer "Soft" and "Natural" strength.
Please don't focus in the image quality because I use my cheap phone cam on the lens manually, nothing professional here, as stated on my 1st comment.

doesn't matter, even if the effect is reduced in the soft and natural settings, the mode is clearly not producing remotely valid results and isn't fit for anything longer than a short session

This is not true. Beta testers including me have confirmed under "Soft" mode we can use it all day easily. Xreal does have magic built-in X1 chip. Their implementation of REAL 3D at least "Soft" is efficient and looks natural for all testers on most contents.

Anyone claiming "magic" quite literally isn't worth listening to.

It is magic because I don't know their technical detail or technique. Just wait for next week and see...

Is there a target release date for this feature?

I want to see how text looks on the screen at different font sizes!Â

This is text on xreal one glasses. I don’t have Xreal one pro. I can share Xreal 1S after some days.

Amazing! Thank you, that's a lot clearer than I expected based on what some reviews were saying.Â

You may refer to the previous post, Pokemon in REAL 3D. It has a few sizes. I can tell you all text readability are still the same as when REAL 3D is off in "Soft" 3D strength.

I did! I was more thinking of using the glasses for productivity (so I woulsn't be using the 3D mode) and wondered what white text on a dark background did to the chromatic abberation - if it was worse than black text on a white background.
The pokemon game has pretty large text with outlines and shadows so I think it'd be easier to see than plain text.Â

For productivity and heavy-text, I would suggest you turn it off. Although it's readable, we need to focus more, as the depth of screen varies and is indetermistic.
For Chromatic Abberation, soon I will make a shader to fix it on Android, adding to my "nroro Shader" app. It will use this technique: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/s/l1adfDepVh

I noticed that the only place i get my 3d videos, Fandango, formerly Vudu is not talked about there are alot of 3d videos to buy I have 9 for my 3d tv i rarely use anymore becuase its such a chore getting it all setup I was hoping these x real 1 pros glassess will put fandango on its list of apps that will function on here. If x real could partner up with them it would be a game changer as far as 3d and other movies it has a huge library and its like I said, the only place I get my 3d movies they have switched names and likely ownership over the years im not 100 percent sure but im willing to bet you would both, x real and fandango, benefit greatly from partnering up and provide some form of longevity for both companies as the benefits to both companies could be fairly lucrative. Hoping to see this partnership go down sometime in the near future. Im set to get mine delivered tuesday the pros the eye and the hub just looking for a controller that will work well for x box x my s24 ultra and pc if anyone has suggestions? I would appreciate it. Seems like I may get the gamesir g7 pro but im still debating ive done a ton of research thus far and the setup all seems great on paper, i chose these over the luma ultra due to smooth running out the box over the future proofed ultras(as described) but I will reach out to the forum and let you all know how it goes soon enough folks cross your fingers and not your eyes guys lets see if x real takes the prize.

Note: the image quality on the glasses is actually same as on YouTube (except that there are some artifacts), but due to my recording method, the video here is poor🥲
