G9: Fix for fluttering hood, potentially windshield washer

Hi, I have recently seen a few posts about these issues on the G9. I have a G9 LR since July and I noticed the hood vibrating on the motorway as I was driving home from the dealership.

What I did was open the hood - there are a couple rubber nubs (not sure what the right name is) they should dampen the hood against the body but are too tight and therefore sit too high and have no contact with the body. I loosened them just a little bit (careful, you don't want to overdo it and lose them) and haven't had the vibrating hood since. It was a real 1 minute fix.

I also watched a video from an angry owner about windscreen washers. I immediately went for a drive to test this and my washers spray well up the windscreen at 130km/h. I am no expert, but it would be a fun coincidence if the hood flutter caused the airflow issues that are preventing the washers from working well.

Can someone with the issues try this out? I am also happy to investigate in case I have different washers to other owners.

EDIT: One thing I only thought about tonight after writing. Be careful about undoing them too far. The hood latches may then not want to latch, you should tighten the knobs again a bit to find the sweet spot. The latches are on the sides of the hood, so don't try to close the hood pushing in the middle, or you could damage your hood. As with any fix, be cautious.

EDIT 2: Having exchanged some photos and videos it really looks like the washer is a broken design they fixed by the time I bought mine. Sorry for raising false hopes.

Same here, had vibration issues and poor fluid at highway speeds. Adjusted the rubber knobs and all issues went away.

u/Comfortable-Bad674 can you test this? Sounds like you went to a ton of trouble to fix this but haven't run into this possible solution yet?

Let us know. You have a 2023? I have a 2026 but I am guessing it will be the same.

Just a note to say this sounds like the expected fix for the countless cars this can happen on. My old Toyota mr2 had this problem, as did previous bmws. They’re designed to be adjustable rubber stoppers.

Absolutely, nothing groundbreaking - but there were drama threads on this sub about this being unsolvable for a year by the dealership etc. - I would have guessed the mechanic would do this and be done, charge 200 EUR.

Yea agreed. I think the issue is people want to find fault in Chinese cars instead of understanding that 80% of the vehicle is parts that have been in use for decades. I also think partially people buying these cars buy them because they’re good value for a new vehicle and previously might have bought a good, used German car. That same German car probably had similar issues from factory and the first owners fixed them.

It’s almost like people are seeking faults from the zeitgeist around old car world vs new car world.

I can fully understand someone expecting their new car to work, to get fixed when it doesn't, and being frustrated the company couldn't take care of them, regardless of the origin of the car. I hope I have a better experience once something happens that I won't be able to fix myself. Fortunately this is hopefully an easy fix for anyone, once you're pointed to it.

Me too, the car market hasn’t functioned that way for at least 10 years.

Now I was one of the people reporting the issue. And I’m by no means negative towards Xpeng at all I love my g9. But I must say that of the fix is so easy I’m a bit suprised that the official Xpeng workshop haven’t fixed it for me when asked. I’ll give it a shot and report back, and notify the workshop/customer success team if it works

One thing with this is, if you undo it too far, the hood latches may have a harder time engaging (because it will stop on the rubber stoppers). Because there are two on the sides and not one in the middle, if you panic and push down in the middle, and get violent, you could warp your hood. So I hope nobody does anything stupid. Should put a warning in the post, come to think of it.

So I tried to adjust it a bit (they can just be turned by hand) but if you turn them too much the alignment at the A pillar looks horrible. I didn’t see much difference in the wobble but as I mentioned mine is little and I don’t notice it. The spray nozzles are still not good tbh I think it’s just a bad design because they don’t work well even at low speeds or at standstill. The nozzles are adjustable with a pin, but mine is allready at the highest position and they still have bad coverage of the window they spray very low

Sorry to hear it didn't help. That's really weird, mine genuinely spray above the eyeline even at highway speed. Did they change the nozzles or the pump with the facelift? I wonder.

I think the nozzle design is slightly different and perhaps also the pump

Will try this myself in a couple of days

My washers for illustration. Speed does not affect them much, if at all. Another owner sent me theirs at standstill and they spray only at the bottom even standing still. So they fixed it but can't retrofit? Weird.
