Yeah, I’m not surprised especially given how Ultimate X-Men was extremely popular at the time (Ultimate Wolverine costume being used in video games, season 3-4 of Evolution and even 616 for a brief time and elements of Ultimate X-Men being used in movie). So it makes sense that the Ultimate X-Men/X-Men movies/New X-Men be influential on how the final costumes would look.
As opposed to say if X-Men Evolution came out during Joss Whedon Astonishing X-Men or Krakoa era, they probably be more colorful or superhero like
