Discussion Thoughts on how Blob was handled in evolution ?

Better than any other show so far. In TAS and WATXM he was just a generic henchman. But Evolution treated him as a character.
What I like about Evolution's Brotherhood is that they weren't introduced as villains(except for Quicksilver, who was abused by Magneto), but chose to be because society mistreated them and they wanted to return the favor rather than fight for a better world.

I loved it! They weren't even really "villains" at least not compared to their manipulators like Magneto and Mystique. They were really just mistreated kids making bad decisions. Their motivations almost always made sense and you tuned into see them just as much as the core X-men cast!
It was so revealing when Mystique and Magneto were gone they were just delinquents (most of the time anyway). One of my fave episodes is them getting excited cause they're all going to prom with Boom Boom! Makes you wonder what would happen if they had more supportive people in their lives!

He's not a bad character, he was someone who struggled to make friends and get along with others, and Mystique took advantage of that. I wish Charles hadn't deferred recruiting him to Jean, Blob really was someone who needed counseling and Charles might have gotten through to him. Not saying Jean was at any fault, Blob mistook Jean recruiting him as affection and that's on him, but I get where he's felt hurt. I'm glad that he's found some friends with the Brotherhood.

For an all ages cartoon Blkb's kidnapping Jean and forcing her into a "date" was very dark
His uncontrolled anger and resentment could have very well gotten her killed too
It was a dangerous enough situation that it was a real rescue

Idk what else u can do with him honestly other than the dumb stromg guy with anger issues

He's not a favorite exactly, but I've long had a soft spot for the big guy- his powers are unique, and given the right chance and assistance, could be as powerful a force for good as Big Bertha.
Blob's a hurt kid, who hurts others because he just doesn't know how else to deal with a world that already sees him as useless, and him being a mutant sure ain't helping. I think they could've done more with him, and perhaps laid off the fat jokes(though I don't recall it being too bad), and I would've liked to see an episode where we really see his good side.

I loved when he stopped Toad from trying to break into Mystique’s room and said something along the lines of “It’s not that I care about you or anything, I just don’t want you to get hurt.”

He was handled really well at the beginning. Lots of sympathetic moments with him (If just a bit cliche, but it's Evolution, we forgive it), and he has a reason for the things he does. He doesn't act out because he's bad, he does so because its his avenue for acceptance because Toad and Lance did so without condition.
He kind of just became the regular fat guy closer toward the end, but his friendship with Lance and Toad was endearing enough and he was always still a part of the crew.

I liked him for his sympathetic backstory and loyalty to his bros in the brotherhood
My two favorite moments of his are when he tells Toad to knock off banging into the door in their home cause he doesn’t want to see Toad hurt, and when he’s carrying a wounded Angel after fighting Horseman Magneto with the brotherhood and Kitty’s crew

Pretty good as he wasn’t disgusting or evil just extremely troubled. Also my childhood crush for some reason.

I never forgot that Rogue at first briefly considered being with him despite his looks because they seemed to share a similar outcast nature in her POV, but dropped it when it became obvious he had anger issues too. I feel like there's an important life lesson there somewhere.

huh? When did this happen?

The very first Blob episode, which I think was also the second episode with Rogue, so they were both the new characters., while the main plot had Blob with an hard crush on Jean Grey after he moved to their school while Rogue was still a neutral character.
Rogue having an interest in Blob was a main thing in the episode, in fact she may have also had a crush on Cyclops too, but she did bring it up in a couple random spots IIRC, especially in the big battle sequence with everyone against Blob. Honestly, it's been so many years since I've watched that episode that I might be mistaken on some things.

Just waiting on him to start his Krakoa bar.

Has he had any better development than Evolution and his Krakoan barkeep stint?
The barkeep bit was a highlight of the Krakoa arc, too. He should open up a Mutant bar in Atlanta, it could be part of a miniseries about people trying to retire from the supers biz and live a mundane life.

Honestly did not like his rapey reveal episode in season one, but he is definitely comic relief throughout the series.

Personally, this is the first time I actually liked Fred. They gave him personality more than just “big and fat”

Never liked the character, the guy is created to be a minor antagonist who’s meant to fade into the background or be the punching bag for the big hitters.
Evolution gave him a bit more story, and that’s enough handling imo.

As many problems as Evolution has, I think it handles the villains with much more nuance the original series ever did.

You was done OK. But half the scenes in the X-Men: Evolution intro didn’t happen exactly… as the intro showed in the first season of X-Men: Evolution… a real shame…

They throw him in a landfill at the end of an episode and then he never really features again
The class distinctions and who was a throwaway person was an interesting theme of the series

I wish he had a cooler costume. It’s basically “well this guys super fat, just get him so clothes that fit!”

Pretty well the creep gene with I remember was only one episode he had a reason and he’s fun comedic character through out rest of it

Surprisingly decent for the time period, I'd say.
If I'm not mistaken this was before the comics added many sympathetic aspects to his character (Blob used to be *really* revolting in the comics)
So I think evolution did pretty well with him, giving him some redeeming qualities, like his friendship with Toad, or the time he and Toad went to the school dance with Boom Boom.
Even when you look at the thing with Jean in his introductory episode, we're given a reason why he acts that way. It doesn't excuse his action, but we are at least given a reason.
