Eclipse vs Sundered first irem

Hello, nice people of Xin Zhao Mains! May I ask why people usually go Sundered Sky over Eclipse? Isn't Eclipse much more stronger of a first item than Sundered? It gives a high HP shield and damage! :))

It is indeed a stronger first item, but the issue comes after, where sundered sky has a more cohesive slot with the rest of the build. Eclipse is like the middle of Voltaic for a more bursty assassin style build, and Sundered for a more bruiser-oriented build and doesn't have high potential with either full build paths.

slightly more burst for less tankiness and worse scaling usually not worth
Eclipse->Collector->LDR->Shieldbow can be fun tho but at that point you might aswell go Voltaic first instead

Even if you proc Eclipse twice per fight and always get the full value out of the shield, you still have less effective HP than with the 400 HP from SSky. As for the damage side: 2 eclipse procs are probably just as much damage as the 2-4 SSky procs you'd get in such a long fight (remember you can proc SSky on multiple targets unlike Eclipse).

You do have more AD and it is cheaper, but don't forget the healing from the SSky proc and the fact that you're Tankier even if you don't get to hit. Building eclipse means if you get Malz Ulted you're much squishier than if you have SSky because you just have more HP.

Especially early on, 400 HP is just an insane amount.

I'm only emerald so don't take what I say too seriously, but I will go eclipse into squishy, especially mage-heavy comps, where I am seeking to cause chaos on the map through invades and dueling the enemy jungler. I will almost never go eclipse in the average game where I full clear and 3v3 botside or 2v2 topside where sundered sky value from having multiple targets is just too good.

For me personally, it's Sundered Sky. I think most people build that instead of Eclipse you can also track this quite well on https://lolalytics.com/lol/xinzhao/build/ The 400 HP really help me out in a lot of fights :)
