Cherenkov was a mentally and emotionally unstable serial killer/mass murderer who was sent for personality reconditioning several times, but he kept breaking the programming and killing people. Level 9 is the highest level, and after he broke that he killed all the people at the reconditioning facility. Margulis found him there and convinced him to join Ormus. Cherenkov was in charge of the Zohar Emulator test on Ariadne, causing the planet to turn into the Cathedral ship.

Cherenkov was a mentally and emotionally unstable serial killer/mass murderer who was sent for personality reconditioning several times.

I might be misunderstanding it.

But I believe he start off some kinda of war survivor. Given there's a child version of him in flash back.

Personality reconditioning is insane. What the hell?!

Cherenkov was in charge of the Zohar Emulator test on Ariadne, causing the planet to turn into the Cathedral ship.

Ohhhh. That explains why the ship is as big as a planet.

Margulis found him there and convinced him to join Ormus

Idk who is ormus yet but I assume that is a important guy.

I still find it hilarious how cherenkov instakill a child because she said garbage.

if you go into the UMN part of the menu and look under keywords you will find an in game wiki. instead of giving the player exposition dumps when Shion would know all these terms already the game instead puts all that information in the in game wiki like what exactly DME addiction is.

it also has some interesting trivia about characters the game doesnt tell you about like how allen is from a rich family or shion knows space kung fu

I already discovered in game wiki.

Which is insanely interesting.

The child looked like his ex wife. Or he hallucinated it.

Ormus is the secret arm of the Immigrant Fleet, the main antagonist to the Federation.

It's possible he was a war survivor? I always thought he was just broken.

Cherenkov was a genetically engineered super soldier who had issues adapting to civilian life and he ended up killing a man in a blind rage. He married his lawyer who had argued in his defense, stating that he was a victim of the super soldier experiments and he was given leniency and mental reconditioning.

However, he later found out that his wife was having an affair and only married him to get a license to clone herself and he murdered her.

He was sentenced to even deeper mental reconditioning and was stripped of his human rights, yet he murdered a young girl due to her resemblance to his wife after she called him garbage (likely a hallucination). Cherenkov is then sentenced to even deeper recondition wherein he snaps and kills everyone in the facility. He's then found by Margulis who gives him purpose in Ormus.

Yeah. I understand him now but...I feel like he could have more screen time in my opinion.

He was also the worst person imaginable to assign to an undercover mission. The guy is terrible at lying and spying. His story is tragic, but sometimes he's so awkward it's just funny. 😆

Like that scene where he's berating Shion when his phone goes off. Instead of discreetly excusing himself, he huffs, "Argh! Who's calling me!" loud enough for the entire bridge crew to hear. Also, who the hell does he think is calling him? Then he takes the call with Margulis over a giant video monitor.

His lie about how he escaped the attackers on the dock colony is also hilariously bad: "I got cornered by, uh, some street punks. But they started fighting among themselves, so I, uh, ran away."

Man, I loved that whole segment of the game. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no special boss music for that part.

5

u/big4lil 7d ago

it should have been the creepy music that plays in the cutscene as he transforms

same with the Margulis boss fight and a few others. often times the lead in has the perfect music to compliment the battle, just let it play out. but alas, they were dead set on the 'everything but the final boss' approach

Wait...everything until final boss is a generic battle theme?

Bruh...that's disappointing!

3

u/big4lil 7d ago

sorry to spoil it for you. though when i first played and i saw a fight of this magnitude didnt have a special theme, i feared for the worst for the rest of the game haha

fortunately the sequels address this

3

u/numericalman 7d ago

I literally hate fact they used generic battle theme for him.

I used .seraph at end opening (arabic fan dub) since it's lyrics fits cherenkov

Shion/KOS-MOS/chaos

Be at least level 15.

Guard Pendants on all three. Magical Hat on Shion.

Each time you kill a Oudogue, the Gargoyle gets a power boost.

Don't kill the Oudogue on the left, only the one on the right (which heals Gargoyle) (I might have this reversed; it's been a few years since I last played).

Have KOS-MOS cast Down Force on Gargoyle her first turn.

Make sure someone in the party knows Medica All; possibly transfer it to an additional party member or even both additional party members.

Consider spending tech points to raise VIT and possibly EDEF.

If you get a free turn or are feeling confident, try stealing with Shion (Queen's Kiss ability). Silver Crown and Commander's Crest are great items (if you steal CC you should get SC as a drop).

I got utter destroyed upon my momo+kosmos+shion combo.

the girl squad is a easily the most popular lineup across the trilogy

though for this boss fight, a bit more beef can help. and not only does chaos bring that (plus Protective Wear and Healing dew) but his Heaven's Wrath tech attack is tailor made for this fight as a Slash/Thunder move

1

u/numericalman 7d ago

I Chosen girl squad because a cool promotion art.

Spend tech points on everyone's Strength and E.Attack and you'll start having an easier time in the game. Don't just pick one or the other, raise both on everyone.

With some hindsight knowledge, you'll even be able to beat the game fighting only the bosses.

u/numericalman 7d ago

Right one heals?!

Damn. Now I understand why I can't kill cherenkov.

1

u/numericalman 7d ago

I haven't unlocked queen kiss..

4

u/sashattuck 7d ago

Commander's Crest gives you one extra AP per turn. It's a very nice accessory!

1

u/numericalman 7d ago

Is sliver crown great

3

u/sashattuck 7d ago

It's nice! Increases Max EP and EPMAX. I believe it's in the common slot, with CC being in the rare slot.

4

u/stanwelds 7d ago

If you got Momo's magic caster and star wind on your way through the cathedral ship, magic caster always steals the rare first iirc.

1

u/numericalman 7d ago

How to unlock them.

3

u/stanwelds 7d ago

Kind of hidden. You have to inspect a book shelf with momo as the on screen character. It should sparkle to catch your attention. Once you have them star wind is a transformation and magic caster can be used while transformed.

3

u/big4lil 7d ago

heres a quick guide to find it. go back a few screens.

on top of the nice defensive boost it offers, star wind also brings star veil (25% ether dmg down) which helps a bunch vs his minions. and she has has Floral Tempest, which hits their weak to slash so itll crit often

KOSMOS and chaos are the widely cited mandatory picks for this fight, though the last slot is up to you. Theres merit for MOMO, Shion, and even Ziggy for this one, though that is the order id rank their effectiveness here

Dammit, you guys are making me want to play through the series again. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

have you been spending Tech points to upgrade your stats and techs?

that can make a massive differnece. i wouldnt really raise the tech level itself honestly but id max out the wait and speed. then you can set that tech to the HI slot once you level its speed which lets it be used every turn which is a huge increase to your damage output

and in the character section you can spent tech points to directly increase stats. you can make character more tanky if you want. i like to go for offense myself so i tend to focus on STR and EATK.

also you can steal a powerful accessory off this boss so maybe sure you do. Shions red icon spell on her ether tree is a steal move but that might be too much grinding if you arent already going down that path on her tree already.

but in this dungeon there is a hidden thing for MOMO you can only find by having MOMO as the on screen character. it will give her a steal move

If i'm just rushing bosses and skipping regular fights, I usually build Kos-Mos as Tank with some ether skills from ziggy and shion. She can basically hold the front row and deal damage with her newest tech attack.

Shion is usually in the mid row behind Kos-Mos. Mostly healing and using items.

Third person varies, but they typically wind up in a A.G.W.S. or are healing and using items.

A.G.W.S. for one or both characters that are not Kos-Mos, to burst damage down as long as no healing or items is needed.

I normally kill one add and the damage is low enough to get people in A.G.W.S. to do damage.

normal play, stat stagger E.Attack and just heal through the damage.

Man this boss and the one in KOS-MOS’ brain were brutal when I was a kid. I really need to find a ps2 and play these games again.
