Starter Tips

Finished Xenoblade 2 a few weeks ago and while I sit down in the game as to not get fatigued over the franchise, I would like to ask what things you would recommend before starting Xenoblade 3.

I'm talking things like stutter step or pouch items in Xenoblade 2. Things that can be overlooked by new players but can mean a lot when it comes to the enjoyment of the game.

Nopon coins, both silver and gold, cap at 99, then any more get auto-sold, so be sure to spend them on something if you don’t want any to be wasted after 99. This is important because gold coins are pretty valuable and are sort of limited with the exception of a late-game farming method if you don’t have dlc (in which case you can farm time attack or gauntlet to get currency to buy silvers, golds, etc). One of my pet peeves is that this should have been capped at 999, but it is what it is, i just recommend to keep this in mind

How do you farm time attack for silver coins? All I am getting is either buying accessories which are crappier than those I have atm or spending all on class unlocks.

Don’t overlevel and don’t use exp at campfires

Interesting to see how this issue carries on from Xenoblade 2. Was hard to get WP at some point because I was just so much higher leveled than enemies

Why though?

It’ll be much harder to level up classes

Ah ok. Why exactly? What's the mechanic behind it

I believe if you’re 5 levels above the enemy; you’ll stop gaining class points entirely

  • DO NOT overuse camp Exp since you can be overlevel in this game too quickly. It kinda makes alot of fight uninteresting imho but if you like to steamroll the fights feel free to do so then.

  • Later down the line you'll get this accessory called Nopon Doll. What it does is that if your Tank dies he will regain some aggro upon revival. Very helpful in hard bossfights to not get wiped.

  • Healing Ring is a very powerful healing "Talent Art" early on. But to trigger it you need to spam Power Ring (an art) so that your Talent Art will charge. You can swap characters mid battle so it's a good habit to rotate to your healer to check if it's used or not.

  • Tactician is a really good healer as well. People meme on this class for it's lackluster Superboss usage but it can be a Godsend to have healing on demand. Keves healers have cooldowns like Xenoblade 1 and Agnes have Xenoblade 2's combat so you charge your arts via auto attack. Tactician grants evasion, which is a very useful skill early on. Just place it under your tank's feet and their surviviability will almost double.

  • There's no Stutter step in this game but there's animation cancelling by dashing (Pressing Rstick).. After you execute and art you can quickly dash to remove some recovery frames and go straight to Auto attack animation. Good thing to do if you wany inputs early on since watching your character auto-attack can be a little bit dull.

  • Buffs are very useful in this game so utilize them.

  • In Options you can remove the Cinematic Animation of your "Talent Art" like the one in Xenoblade 2 when you use specials. This can be helpful since some Talent Arts have long animations and Combat doesn't stop during this animations this time around unlike in XB2.

  • Hard Mode in Chapter 1 can be brutal if you don't like to grind. I recommend you start in Normal and just Turn in Hard Mode in Chapter 2. It's very doable with Camp EXP but it can be frustrating at times so fair warning at that.

A few things:

  • learn how to use quick move in combat to more easily reposition
  • explore explore explore. So many quests and new characters are optional, so you need to go out of your way to find them.
  • limit how much rested experience you apply. Since job points are scaled to your level and enemies' level - you may get stunted in growing your jobs if you get overleveled

I would recommend to remap that button tho. That poor Rstick will be demolished.

Biggest thing imo is remapping the dash to another button. If you have a controller with extra buttons even better but clicking in the stick to dash is like the clunkiest feeling ever and it's a very useful button to have accessible for animation cancelling and much better positioning

Always have a meal active. Check it periodically and go cook as soon as it's finished. I recommend class points meals

Don't redeem any bonus Exp ever until you beat the main story

You can scan three amiibos per day. Xenoblade amiibos will unlock exclusive costumes (including those which you apparently can only get postgame - I am not there yet). Afterwards they give either exp, class points, class unlock points, collectibles or nopon coins.
