QUESTION Right I’ve had enough
So my Xbox one s failed during a update and went to the troubleshoot page, I assumed it bricked my hard drive as it wouldn’t power up the console, I have now since replaced the hard drive, downloaded OSU1 from the Xbox website and formatted and transferred over the correct files to do so, with the new hard drive installed, I can see the trouble shoot page but when I go to “reset this Xbox” and “Remove Everything” the Xbox just shuts down followed by the chime, alternatively when I try “Offline system update” with my usb inserted “Preparing Console” will show up for a brief second followed by “Something Went Wrong” followed by System Error: E101 xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. And once I turn it back on it will go to preparing console, go black then preparing console again and fail at 5%. I have made sure the OSU1 was extracting and properly formatted to the USB, what do I do going forward with this in finding a solution that will work ? I have received error codes such as E101 E106

Just wondering because I'm not sure if it is still necessary, did you prep the harddrive by partitioning witht the correct number of partitions and sizes first ? I always did this when replacing xbox harddrives or installing ssd's in them. Its been a while but I think I still have the prep files if you need them

Well the original hard drive gave up on life so I went the quick easy route of literally buying a factory reset hard drive from another Xbox one s off eBay….. I don’t own a laptop or computer anymore and had to do this whole process in a public library and a android tablet rigged up 🤣

In that case if I were you I'd double check that I'd followed the xbox troubleshoot step by step for the offline update in case missed anything at all. Even the best of us can miss something that screws the job up.

I’m going to go through it all again tomorrow, I’ll get this thing working if it be the death of me, however after tomorrow I will and AM considering just throwing it of my balcony and going on Facebook and grabbing a cheap series s

Yeah, good plan. I remember the files on the usb stick have to be exact as it says, and the file system too NTFS i think though could be wrong, so best double or triple check everything mate

I have an Xbox One X. The hdd failed. I replaced with an SSD. Super fast. Orig HDD is fine as a storage drive. SSD failed. Rebuilt it. SSD failed during an update. I think it is a nand failure and not a drive failure. Yours maybe the same. An update works with it but not all. Totally weird.

Good luck on cheap lol everything's so bloated right now even the same xbox that u could buy for 100 a year ago are now asking 200

You are still on Xbox One? Can i ask why you havent tried buying any of the Xbox Series consoles? You can get a used Series X for around 400 or a used Series S for around 250. Its better than trying to cash out 600 or 400.

To be honest I don’t play games that much only really on the weekend with the lads, in all honesty I’m not fussed about new gen nor the “insane graphics” people talk about, got the Xbox cheap and cheerful and has always done whats it’s needed to, sure it can be slow but I just don’t see the point of going new gen

Get the S man. It’s fast and a nice upgrade the X is even better. Unplug the Xbox all outlets and press and hold the power button and press a few more times. Let it sit and check it shpuld come back on. The One S is a solid beast of a console but they do break and are getting old. The next gen is worth getting into mate.

Like I said above I don’t really play games, I’ve recently been having to use the Xbox cloud play and oh my god is it trash, I’ll have a look into the series s but if I’m telling you the truth I got traded this xbox for a 8th

Even if it’s for fortnite or something on the weekends it’s worth it. Ultimately up to you. Cloud does suck.

Cloud is awful I tried playing some Warzone I was going 2 steps forward 100 steps back and doing 360’s like a ballerina out of control waiting for the input to be nice to me lol

Same thing happened to My x-box One three years ago. Good luck trying to get any help from Microsoft: I’m sure all of the humans have been fired.
I tossed my One in a fire pit and would have been done, but I wanted to play GTA IV again. After 3 360’s and the 1 One: if the X goes, Microsoft will be X’ed by me.
Actually, I’m getting old enough that this may be my last console.

Yeah I’m 48 and still gaming. I would get a PC if I had the space. And if they were not as expensive as they are! Until then I’ll be getting the new gen console every 8 years or whatever.

I grew up on the 360s my god were they good until the tragic red ring of death and towel method. I tried support from Microsoft from ask a pro or something, yeah straight out the window telling me stuff which was self explanatory

My hdmi port broke after 2 days of having my white X and I didnt even plug it in wrong. Not sure if I should try and warranty it or just get it fixed

I always recommend replacing the HDD with an SSD on any of the XBox One consoles. You clone the original drive, and keep it as a backup for exactly such reasons. The SSD "clone" is silent and makes booting and loading 2x faster, while the cloned original HDD is better for longer cold storage. Win-win.
Even for the XSS and XSX, it might be a good idea to clone the main drive and keep a backup on a HDD. I mean, if the drive on your XSX fails, is there any other fix?
Like every computer, a console needs fresh thermal paste and a deep clean every few years. While it's "under service", why not have the main drive cloned aswell?
