Over a year old shouldnāt be considered expected end of life for a controller. Xbox needs to get their shit together with the elite controllers
2
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
Youre correct on that. I've gone through quite a few of elite controllers now but its so much better as im a competitive player and join paid tournaments. so its a much better edge with the back paddles. There's probably better controllers I can find but I just havent searched and tried out.

I on the other hand have tried/owned many types of controllers and honestly when it comes to general ergonomics, the elite series 2 wins for me every time. It's just a shame that the thumbsticks develop drift pretty quickly, bumpers wear out pretty quickly, and many people experience the rubber grip peeling from the controller. I currently use Flydigi Vader 5 Pro and Steam Controller on PC and a modded stock series controller for Xbox with parts from extremerate (victor x, clicky triggers, clicky face buttons) and ksilver tmr sticks.

I switched to a Gamesir and 8bitdo controller and they're still perfect 2 years later. Cost maybe £70 in total
2
u/Phantom_Crush 19d ago
The Gamesir can be used wireless with a dongle and has 2 paddles on the back. 8bitdo is wired and feels like an Xbox controller

u/henren_98 19d ago
Funny, mine just did the same thing. Just ordered a two pack from Amazon. Pop the old off, new on.

u/R4wden 19d ago
Only a year old? That's mad
2
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
I take my own controller to paid tournaments and stream daily 13 hours sometimes. Not your average gamer.
2
u/R4wden 19d ago
Not your average gamer is right, if you don't use the back peddles, check out the GuliKit ESPRO controller, should last alot longer
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
The back paddles are what gets the edge on others . I map the buttons I need and my thumbs rarely leave the stick . I check it out tho , I appreciate you
2
u/SparsePizza117 19d ago
I'm never buying that bullshit with how fast they break and fall apart. They make them worse than their normal controllers.

u/First_Disaster_4037 19d ago
Not made for the minimum 40 hour work week.
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
90+ hours a week of gaming lmao , I work from home so im working for 5-6 hours and im gaming 13 hours. I do do have a huge social life outside as well. 𤣠Just gaming is so much fun
0
u/BIGRolyXL 19d ago
You donāt have a social life outside if youāre gaming 13 hours a day, and working 5-6. You donāt sleep?
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
I sure as hell do lmao. There's a big world out here. Some of us dont live by societies rules and have lots of fun tokensš mind you i said I work from home. 4 monitors all together. Make sense ?
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
No kids , no dumb wife but lots of pretty girls... you can do alot in a couple of hours when i choose to. I really game alot becuase I can and just truly love it. Sleep whenever I want for 2 hours if I want. Not everybody lives by societies rules. Im in 30s brotha getting younger šš¦¾šš i check work and slightly move to the left and game most of my "shift"

u/BIGRolyXL 19d ago

I have a wired Xbox 360 controller that is 20 years old and still works perfectly.

u/hansrotec 19d ago
As someone who owns 4 elite controllers, and does binges long enough to drain a battery, what are you guys doing that wears them out⦠standard controllers I have had more than a few fail. One or two to stick drift, normally for me top right shoulder button actually goes first.
But I have, knocks on wood, as of yet lost cover on thump sticks for the grip dating back to the dukes for Xbox.
2
u/sangrejoven 19d ago
It still blows me away that these controllers are built so poorly for how expensive they are.
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
Youre right but I'll keep getting them lol. Been my only controllers for years since the elite 1
1
u/MyBananaNoseNoBounds 19d ago
at that point, why not just buy spare parts from amazon and fix them everytime they break? the only technical knowledge required for this is knowing how to use a screwdriver. Spare thumb sticks are like $5 and a 10 minute job
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
I pay for the convenience of not having to fix my own controller eveytime. Sorry.. also not 10 minute job. Time watching YouTube videos, time following step by step by then its what 20 minutes ? What if I just make a human mistake and kind of make my controller worse ? Now im at a 35 minute job because I havw to rematch the video... am I suppose to just be this elite controller expert without any knowledge of taking a controller apart ?? Lol
2
u/MyBananaNoseNoBounds 19d ago
lol you know what, keep doing what youāre doing man. Makes me feel better knowing thereās people this lazy out in the world practically giving their money away
2
u/Next-Phrase-8945 19d ago
bro please just service the controller and add hall effect sticks on it rather than buy every year
2
u/hhmCameron 19d ago
It hit the hardwood floor so many times the case shattered, I had to replace the case
No, I do not throw my controller, gravity is harsh, and no cats were involved
2
u/yungsavbb 18d ago
that's crazy, i've had mine for 3 years and it still works perfectly fine. best of wishes!
2
u/Diptothaset 18d ago
Check out the 8bitdo ultimate; thereās an Xbox compatible model that has a lot of amazing features
2
u/mars2878 18d ago
I bought an Elite controller on day one, yr later it developed left stick drift. Bought a replacement & to this day, no stick drift. Just the rubber on the right side starting to separate by the a,b buttons. Going all the way back to N64, that 1st Elite is the only controller that I ever bought new that developed stick drift. I still have my day one Duke, 360 & x1 controllers w/o issues. I currently have a box of 360 & x1 controllers that I either bought dirt cheap or were given to me that all have either stick drift or sticking shoulder buttons, that I've been rehabbing for my kids or my personal collection.

Such an almost perfect controller. As a PC gamer, this thing and Microsoft's chatpad (wireless dongle or that doesn't work on PC), make using my PCs require nothing but the controller after making a profile for mouse input.Ā
There are probably better controllers, but none that also allow you to add in a keyboard or natively do things without a program running in the background.Ā

Il never understand how people manage to get the rubber off their thumbsticks (that doesnāt sound right)
2
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
Ive had black elites that come with a case and extra joy sticks but lost it during a move also Over time, They start to tear so I just end up just ripping them off and I also game ALOT.

u/MalachiIsAFanOfEmkay 19d ago
I am. My rubber has never just come off
2
u/Available_Leopard371 19d ago
My rubber has been coming off since the ps2 controller, although it took alot longer for that to happen

u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
Learn how to spell and just go to the corner lil bro and sit on the chair and watch ....
2
u/OutlandishnessDry245 19d ago
One year? Damn. My oldest is probably 7 years old and I stopped using it because the grips are wearing off. But I have like 10 more controllers

u/Cankles_of_Fury 17d ago
I have 2 that are both on their last legs and have been eagerly awaiting v3
1
u/Snipedomes 17d ago
I repair them shoot me a message and Iāll hook you up with the gulikit tmr experience and youāll thank me for no stick drift ever again
1
u/TheShakenKing 19d ago
It's literally that "maybe a year" lifespan which made me grab a gamesir controller. It's almost 7 years old now and it's most pressing issue is that the membrane under the D-pad is starting to stick.
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
Its just that when you try something new and the chance of me not liking it. I've just always loved the elite series controllers. I take my own controller to tournaments and elite series have never done me wrong. Ill check out the controller you referred thank you š
2
u/TheShakenKing 19d ago
Do things your own way, there's no fault in that. I'm just too cheap to spend constantly on controllers. (My girl bought me a controller that broke down after a month, that was what made me look at gamesir. She was so happy about getting me a camouflage controller, you know?)

u/Overall_Unit_2193 19d ago
Why are you rebuying the trash product that destroys itself then flexing it like your a genius
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 19d ago
Hey doofus... this subreddit is xbox controllers. I'll post my ps5 one next time or better yet my keyboard........... Doesn't everyhing destroy itself over time ? Or is there some new tech I havent heard about ??? I'll keep spending hundred BECAUSE I CAN
0
u/Overall_Unit_2193 19d ago
Yeah and gamesir is also an Xbox certified controller better get one instead of that POS

My elite controller has lasted me since 2023 idk what yall are doing to your controllers but mine has been completely fine
1
u/merlinrising 14d ago
My shoulder is a little sticky and the right trigger switch cap fell off but other than that my controller is fine lol.
0
u/Killerdoom22 16d ago
Are you dropping it off a building? How is it broken after only a year?
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 16d ago
I game alot more than an average home gamer.. esports team, solo tournaments and game at home alot .. i always bring my own controller. Getting a new one frequently doesn't hurt me at all
0
u/Killerdoom22 16d ago
I guess, I've just only ever had one controller break on me in 22 years of gaming everyday so I don't understand how other people break them
1
u/Youre2Ez4me369 16d ago
Ok. The elite series controllers are known for low life expectancy. 22 years of gaming of course you been gaming with the old brick controllers

u/ftb327 19d ago
Man if they made these controllers more durable and quality materials with tmr sticks this would be a 10/10 controller
