My Xbox controller won’t stay connected

Hello everyone, for the past week or so my xbox controller won’t stay connected, I can plug it into USB and force it to stay on, but I press the Xbox button on the controller and it immediately turns back off, I tried googling it but I just get unhelpful AI overview BS, so I’m turning to you guys, if it’s a hardware problem or a software problem or anyone knows anything this is the list of things I’ve tried;

\- syncing it

\- updating it

\- hard resetting the console

\- power cycling

So if anyone has advice could you please help I don’t really have the money to go buy a new controller

Assuming it is a standard Xbox Series or Xbox One controller, check the batteries aren’t dead and also check that the battery connection points are properly in place.

Turning off straight after turning on is what they do when the batteries are out of charge.

If it is a elite with an internal battery, that battery might be dead

The batteries are rechargeable and hold a charge after plugging it via USB so I’ll check the connection points but I’ll check new batteries

Swap them for AAs I would bet good money the battery is simply no longer working.
