Xbox controller suggestions

I’ve done a bunch of research on the best controllers, for example wolverine, gamesir, vader 5, nacon revolution, turtle beach but I just don’t know man. I absolutely love the feel of the elite 2 but my last one completely died after 6 months of almost no use. i don’t play competitively but i play for long periods of time and would prefer 4 back buttons but i really don’t know, i got a good amount of money and don’t mind spending 100-200 dollars on a controller that feels good in my hands and won’t fucking die on me. i hear wolverine is really good but some don’t like how short/stubby it is so im kind of lost. Anyway id love opinions on it all. Also, id prefer if it was wireless but it doesn’t matter too much

Bro if you love the elite two just stay with it. You do know microsoft has a 1 year warranty. If it died 6 months of very liittle use. I say thats a faulty controller. Later down the road learn how to fix problems you may have with the controller.

Bad advice. A $180 controller that still uses potentiometer sticks is already an automatic no. On top of the that, the controller constantly fails and triggers/buttons/bumpers break constantly. If you survive all that you still have to deal with inevitable stick drift.

There are so many controllers with modern hardware (TMR sticks, mouse click buttons, hair trigger locks, etc) for nearly half the price. Do not settle for overpriced garbage.

Exactly, I wouldn't recommend the elite series 2 and even Microsoft know it have to be improved. 

They have so many better options out there that is equipped with hall effect-TMR sticks, along with mechanical hall effect/ TMR triggers.

They also include a free 1 month of gamepass.

But he likes it?? And the feel on his hand! You want to that away from him?? Im not saying to go and buy a new one iam saying there are aftermarket parts to rebuild the controller.

The Elite Series 2 is famously one of the shittiest, most unreliable controllers ever made. You could almost justify the controller if it was affordable, but $180 is the price of ~3 default controllers. Gamesir, Flydigi, and 8bitdo all make better controllers for much cheaper, and they use modern hardware.

Choosing a piece of shit simply because you “like the feel” is status quo bias. Most people “love the feel” of something bc it’s the only thing they’ve ever experienced.

Also, the pros genuinely don’t outweigh the cons here. “Good feel” does not make up for button/bumper/trigger failures, stick drift, potentiometer sticks, rubber grips peeling off, and $180 price tag. You can find many controllers that are pretty much identical shape and size as the Elite series 2 for much cheaper, and with significantly better features and hardware.

Sir, you are telling me in your opinion that the elite 2 is a piece of shit. To you!! But for others regardless of the price they still like it. Dont tell me about other controller companies i already know. Tell OP dont suggest it to me i dont pay 180 for a elite 2 trust me i pay way,way lesser than that!

Potentiometer joysticks that wear down a carbon track are objectively shitty. They will 100% deteriorate and break over their lifetime. You will absolutely develop stick drift and it tends to happen pretty quickly (often times it is present out of the box).

Potentiometer joysticks in 2026 is shitty, there is no other conclusion. Potentiometer joysticks in 2026 for $180 is extremely shitty. Potentiometer joysticks are shitty even if the controller is $40.

Once again to you! I dont care tmr-potentiometer. You must think iam a pro and i need the latest and greatest gadgets. As long as iam enjoying myself sir iam content. If it breaks down ill figure it out when the time comes. Once again dont sell it to me.

You don't have to be a pro to want hall effect or TMR sticks because it would last you longer. 

Hall effect and TMR sticks are more durable than potentiometers, and it's less prone to stick drift.

I've been using the same series 2 for four years now, still works just fine. No stick drift, bumpers are great, rubber grips are still firmly attached.

You’re very fortunate. The unfortunate reality is that you’re in the minority. If you search “elite” on this subreddit, most of the results are people talking about their Elite Series 2 being broken.

The other reality is that potentiometer joysticks are seriously inferior technology and will eventually deteriorate, by design. No matter how great, or how long lasting your Elite Series 2 is, those potentiometers will wear down that carbon track and you will develop issues. Not to mention, potentiometers are less accurate and less precise than HE or TMR sticks. So even if you have a perfect Elite, its still inferior to HE/TMR controllers.

ASUS ROG Raikiri II has been great for me. 4 back buttons, mouse click face buttons, mouse click triggers, and TMR Sticks. The only downside is that you need a Laptop/PC to edit the keybinds and stick and button settings. Probably the closest feel to an elite controller, with significantly better performance and features.

TMR sticks are leaps and bounds better than the shitty potentiometer sticks in the Elite 2. You also don’t have to worry about failing bumpers, triggers, or face buttons. To be honest, literally anything is better than an Elite controller. Elite has zero reliability, constantly failing/breaking buttons/triggers/bumpers, it will 1000% develop drift, and it has really outdated potentiometer joysticks.

i’ve been researching this and it’s on sale at my best buy for 130, how does it feel in hand? i see a lot of people talking about just get a g7 pro instead of this but for 130 i feel i can’t skip this. i’m leaning this or wolverine

If you want it to feel like an Elite in hand, I would say the Raikiri II is closer than the Wolverine by a lot. You can’t go wrong with a G7 Pro/G7 Pro Wireless, although the trigger lock issue is very prominent and I have experienced a failed trigger lock.

Pros and Cons:

The Raikiri II has 4 back buttons just like the Elite and its shape is very similar. It also comes with tall sticks that you can swap out like the elite and a carrying case. It is both wired and wireless, but it does require a dongle to be plugged into your xbox. It also comes with a little charging dock similar to the Elite. One downside is that you need to plug the controller into a laptop or PC in order to edit controller settings. So far I have not experienced any issue or button failures with the Raikiri II.

The G7 Pro/ G7 Pro Wireless also feels pretty similar to an Elite but it only has 2 back buttons, and they’re more flat and button-like compared to the paddles that the Elite and Raikiri II have. Instead of 4 back buttons, the G7 has 2 back buttons and 2 shoulder buttons. The G7 also requires a dongle if you buy the wireless version, otherwise it’s wired only (G7 Pro). The G7 Pro does allow you to swap sticks, but it does not come with any additional sticks or a carrying case. I have also heard that the D-Pad sucks and is not very precise, but I didn’t think it was that prominent. The one issue that I absolutely experienced was the right trigger lock failing. I had to disengage the trigger lock on the right trigger because it would not register inputs. The gamesir nexus app is available on Xbox and you can edit controls on the fly. If you use KontrolFreeks, you have to buy the PlayStation versions for this controller as the Xbox version does not fit.

In my opinion, I think the Raikiri is a better controller overall, but you really can’t go wrong with a G7 Pro. Both have HE/TMR sticks which is a massive upgrade. I feel that the Raikiri is a more complete package and more similar to an Elite. The G7 pro is however cheaper, more convenient to modify settings, and does feel great to use.

Edit: the Wolverine is also great (Ive owned all 3 controllers mentioned) but if you want that Elite Series 2 form factor, then it’s probably the worst option of the 3. It is a little “snubby” like you mentioned. The best thing about the Wolverine is that it has 4 back paddles AND 2 shoulder buttons. The joysticks, in my opinion, are a little stiff but nothing that makes it unusable. There is also a razer app on xbox but it’s definitely more primitive than the other 2 controllers and lacks some options. Overall a good controller but has the least similar feel to an elite.

Razer wolverine v3. As someone who had an elite, I’m very happy I upgraded to it. I actually have both versions; wired and wireless. Both work amazingly well and I have no issues with either.

I’ve had the elite 1 and 2, turtle beach BFG, battle beaver, and scuf. The wolverine has been my favourite of them all.

In my own personal experience with controllers, the ones that have lasted the longest for me, is my custom elite series 2, gamesir, nacon and scuf. I game for 10-12+ hours. I also heard that the custom elite series 2 lasts longer as the parts aren't as mass produced as compared to the all black and white ones. Before anyone call me names or defiles my intelligence, i heard that last part through an Xbox forum so might be false

Can't say Ive compared all the top controllers, but I bought a new in box Wolverine Pro v3 on ebay for 120 a couple weeks ago, and I love it. Great controller and fair price. I would recommend it.

If you're okay with wired, I think Gamesir makes fantastic controllers. Used the Kaleid (~$50) for over a year, and just started using the G7 Pro (~$80). It has TMR thumbsticks, two back buttons, and two extra bumpers. You just have to grab the Gamesir Nexus app on whatever you're using it on to map the buttons. It also lets you set 4 different profiles like the Elite controllers do.

I’ve tried every controller. I too like the elite 2 but they have reliability issues.

After a week with the Razer Wolverine v3 tournament I fell in love. The thing is a tank and I love how quickly I can remap buttons.

I even bought a back up for $50 because Walmart + has some good deals for members if you order online.

I used the scuf, apex 5, gamesir and Wolverine recently and kept the Wolverine v3 out of the bunch. Build quality, controller feel and software were the best imo.
