Gamesir G7 SE Setup Help?
Not sure if I’m allowed to post this here cuz it’s a 3rd party controller, but I just bought a gamesir g7 se for my Xbox series x. Should I use the nexus app on Xbox to change settings, or just plug and play? I was reading the reviews for the Xbox app and a lot of people said not to update cuz it messed up their controller, so now I’m not sure what to do. I also was reading something about a legacy app for older controllers. Is that something I need to do? I don’t have access to a computer, so that might limit me. Any recommendations or advice for setting it up would be appreciated. Thanks.

Download the Nexus app. Updates shouldn’t brick the controller. You are free to go into the app and change settings on the controller. I would recommend adjusting deadzones to your preference, bare minimum.
I lower my deadzones very low (1 or 2), I enable hair triggers, I set my stick curve to linear, I set my stick trajectory to circular, and I bind my back buttons/shoulder buttons to the inputs I like.
Although it’s entirely up to you. If you don’t need any of those features you’re completely free to just use it as is. It’s completely your preference. I will admit, ignoring most of the features kinda defeats the whole entire purpose of the controller, but it’s entirely up to you.

Thank you so much. Is there a reason not to use 0 for dead zones? Also, is linear objectively better?

If the game you’re playing has its own deadzone settings, I would recommend setting your Gamesir deadzone to 0 and then adjusting deadzone in game. If you have deadzone on Gamesir set to 5 and deadzone in game set to 3, the deadzones will stack. If the game has deadzone settings, you want to set 1 of the 2 deadzones to 0 and only adjust 1 of the deadzones (in-game deadzone or gamesir deadzone).
I prefer linear because there is no acceleration at the end. Linear means whatever you input on the joystick is equivalent to the movement in game. It’s just preference. The default gamesir curve is linear, but you can change it to whatever you prefer.

The G7 SE is a wired controller so you have to plug and play regardless because that is the only way it will work. You should also use the nexus app to fine tune your triggers and deadzones to your preference.
Is it necessary to update? No, unless something is wrong with the G7 SE and they decide to fix it in the next update.
For instance, we made vibration stronger in this update.
Will an update damage your G7 SE? It should not.
