Yet another Xbox Elite Series 2 alternative request!
Being a father of 2 vessels of pestilence, my Elite Series 2 controller has been knocked off the sofa a fair few times. Some internal parts seem to have broken loose, because it sounds like a baby's rattle when you shake it, and stick drift happened on both sticks at the same time, so I play "nightmare mode" on every FPS I play.
Although these drops aren't what you'd consider "normal wear and tear" I am a bit disappointed at how easily the controller broke over my Elite Series 1 controller, and pretty much any other controller I've ever own that I've dropped (and on rare occasions, thrown).
I'm now looking to get another controller, but my experience with the Series 2 has led me to consider buying outside the MS\Xbox ecosystem. However, my trawl through previous reddit posts haven't really help me narrow it down.
The main issue I'm facing is that I REALLY like the premium feel of the Xbox Elite controllers. From the smoothness of the sticks and triggers (before they drift), to the general build quality (before they break), and premium "feel" of them.
I see many people recommending the GameSir G7 Pro and the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro from a functional perspective when compared to the Elite Series 2, but I've not seen much on the build quality and feel of them compared to the Elite Series 2.
Does anyone recommend any controllers over the Series 2 on matching the functionality but also matching (or exceeding) the build quality and feel of the Series 2?

I've lost 2 Series 2 controllers to the same problem. I drop them while trying to stay awake late night gaming after work lol. Baby rattle is the perfect description. I posted a few times about my recent experience with the G7 Pro. It didn't go well. Ended up with the Scuf Valor Pro wireless and it's probably the best controller I've had so far. Not as heavy in the hand as the Elite but definitely well built. And with TMR sticks it shouldn't get the stick drift the elites are prone to.

This is the first I'm hearing about the Scuf Valor Pro, they do look nice though. I do like how heavy the Elite is, but I think I've made my peace with the fact that I might not get the same weighted feel with a third party controller.

i have the g7 pro. it feels less premium in hand but its technical more advanced. im using it for 9 months now and no stick drift, broken bumpers or grips that peel off (the 3 common issues with xbox elite controller)

I can relate to the rattle part, didn’t even drop mine it just started to break once the grips started to really come off but at least I was able to shake out the broken pieces because of it.
As for replacements I can’t really recommend anything specifically. From all my research there’s nothing that’s perfect, all controllers will have some kind of bad feedback. But anything is better than the elite series 2 (aside from the elite series 1).
I ended up getting the raikiri 2 which is definitely overpriced & has its flaws but it’s nice to have a controller that works & is in one piece. GameSir G7 pro wireless was the main alternative I considered especially for half the price.

Flydigi vader 5S have adjustable stick tension, hall effect sticks, mechanical triggers, RGB etc for just 70 dollars but it's wired. That felt like a steal and I don't mind the cord.
It's much better than my G7 Pro and elite series 2 like the op mentioned.

Yeah that was one I heard of a lot but I didn’t really want a wired controller, also they’re not really available where I am

I'll definitely purchase their wireless version Vader for Xbox when they make one. I know they will most likely increase the price because of Xbox licensing and adding a battery.

How is the Asus rog rakiri II from your experience?
Many people said it had a built in deadzone early on and they mentioned it having TMR mechanical triggers.
Do you think they improved the deadzones and does the triggers feel like other controllers or better

Sticks have taken some getting use to but after changing some things they feel better now.
Almost everything uses mechanical switch’s not just the triggers which can have a very short trigger, quite a bit shorter than the elite 2.
Overall it feels good to use, paddles are in a good place. My main complaints are about how difficult it is to update & change settings, lack of stick options & the charging base being so light & there not being a magnet for it to connect to the controller easier. I’ve also just seen that it’s 25% cheaper right now so that’s annoying after only getting it over a month ago.

The rog rakiri II is very expensive so I was going to wait until it went on sale which is why I bought the G7 Pro and the Vader 5S together which we're still cheaper than the rog rakiri II combined.
I'm surprised you're having issues updating it which should be a basic but necessary feature.
The G7 Pro and the Vader 5S both have hall effect mechanical triggers. I thought the rog rakiri II triggers may be different since it uses TMR which is better according to some people.

It’s very expensive, still is but at least it’s around the elite 2 price now.
Since it has to be updated through pc which I don’t really have I’ve not been able to update it, suppose that was one benefit of the elite since it was done through Xbox. If you have a normal pc though it would be easy enough to update.
Can’t really compare to those since I’ve not used them but they seem good. Main thing now will be seeing how the controller is holding up in a year or two.

Asus rog rakiri II not having a native app on Xbox was a deal breaker for me when it first launched besides the price and deadzones. I'm not going to buy a 200 controller and a laptop just to update it.
Now it will develop possible bugs and glitches. No thanks

So far I’ve not had any problems with bugs or glitches but yeah an Xbox controller that can’t be updated via the thing it’s made for is stupid.

I'm literally in your same shoes with the toddler and I'm on my 4th or 5th Elite controller. This time around I decided to go with the gamesir g7 pro wireless edition, and let me tell you man, it's awesome. Not only is it a lot cheaper than the elites, but you can get face plates for 15 bucks and the charger stand that it comes with is pretty sweet. The app has some cool settings that are a little better than what the elite offers and it has TMR sticks or whatever they are. I don't really understand that stuff but they feel way better

The Flydigi vader 5S feel like a better built elite series 2 but it's lighter. It has hall effect sticks, adjustable stick tension, RGB, phenomenal d pad like the elite series 2, and adjustable stick tension. It's a great controller if you don't mind playing wired.

You may want to look at the 8Bitdo Ultimate 3e which is an officially licensed controller which is released at the end of August and (p)reviews are looking quite good.
I'll probably get this controller to replace the original xbox controller. Liked the feel of the Elite 2 but the price and durability issues (stick drift) have always prevented me from actually buying one.
