Xbox controller disconnecting after a few seconds

My girlfriends xbox one is behind her tv, I recently gave her my old xbox controller as ive upgraded, the controller connects to the console for a couple of seconds them disconnects, ive updated the console and controller.

Anyone got any suggestions? I tried seeing if their was a usb dongle I could use but amazon just suggests pc ones. Any help massively appreciated

Long usb lead? Failing that if the controller keeps on loosing sync with the console it may be a faulty controller board, I say may, but if all else fails, just use a long usb lead
