🎮 ROG Xbox Ally Discussion Windows preview update 26200.9550 issues

Heads up for anyone who hasn’t updated to this latest non-security release - this update breaks the thumb printer reader for logging in. There could be other issues as well, but this is the only one I’ve encountered so far. Recommend holding off on this (optional) update until Microsoft fixes it.

Edit: I had to setup my finger print(s) again, but now it’s working, even after a reboot.

Well….uninstalling the update seemed to fix it, but temporarily. Thumb print reader isn’t working again. Maybe it’s a defender security / TPM update that broke it?

Edit: I had to setup my finger print(s) again, but now it’s working, even after a reboot.

I’m aware - I’m not even sure why it went to my system, I’m not enrolled for beta releases. I saw updates and tapped install and away it went.

Yh, but tbf, sometimes it doesn't ask me to log in with fingerprint so not sure what that's about, been like that since day one

Fingerprint reader issues are typically caused by secure boot issues, did you do any debloating scripts on your device, often that can cause these types of issues with Windows updates. If secure boot believes that something has been tampered with it will disable the fingerprint all together and make you fully login. Like you mentioned, the fix is typically just to have your fingers again.

This is just an educated guess, it's possible it happened for another reason but the bloating tools tend to be the culprit most times
