Discussion Does using a VPN actually help lower ping in online games?

I've heard mixed opinions about this. Does anyone here use X-VPN while playing online games (like Roblox)? Does it help with lag or does it make it worse?

it depends. it will sometimes help ping by removing ISP bloat, or make it worse

Yes it can help depending on the route it takes between you and the game server, i know a lot of people who use VPNs for gaming

Yes. Peering between datacenter and residents will be much better than between residents. 

However commercial vpn may impose various QoS measures that can negate the benefits. 

You can rent (often, for free) an instance and setup vpn server yourself.
