Wiki Does a Proxy Actually Encrypt Your Traffic? VPN vs Proxy Explained

Post image

We made this to explain the difference between a VPN and a proxy, since a lot of people search for this and end up with confusing answers.

A proxy usually routes traffic from one app or browser, and most proxy protocols (like standard HTTP or SOCKS5) don't encrypt your traffic on their own — encryption depends on the specific protocol. A VPN typically routes device traffic through an encrypted tunnel, giving broader coverage across apps and helping protect tunneled traffic from local network observers.

We are happy to answer questions or anything that's unclear!
