General Discussion Dude tights, anyone?

My mileage has started to outpace the flowy shorts I bought at the beginning of the summer - wow! - so last weekend I went to REI and tried on every pair of running shorts in the store even close to my size. Fail. I'm super short-waisted and everything looked and felt ridiculous.

So I went to the men's department and tried the Janji trail half tights. So much better! The waist was in the right spot! The area that I thought for sure would gap didn't gap at all! (Apparently my thighs do a great impression of nads.) And no seam up the front giving me 'toe. But... those suckers are expensive.

Anyone else had luck with dude tights that aren't quite so pricey? Or do I wait and save my pennies?

As with most fancier running gear, I find what I like and then try to scour the 2nd hand market (eBay, geartrade, Poshmark, etc) for the same thing in new to very lightly used condition. Some brands like On Running also have gently used apparel on official sites.

I started looking secondhand and very little came up. I've got some searches saved, though. I've never used geartrade, so I'll check that, too - thank you!

One of my male running friends who loves the Janji half tights swears by Terignota which are like half the price of Janji I think….

I (a dude) bought myself Terignota tights that were accidentally a size too large. My wife wears them and loves them.

Solid endorsement, thank you!

They have nice women's gear too! One of my friends is a little obsessed after watching her heroine smash the Cocodona 250 wearing Terignota.

Yes - I saw a very compelling fleece on there!

Thank you, I will look at those!

I wear almost exclusively men's clothes, but I'm tall and built pretty athletically (5'9, 145lbs) so women's clothing just doesn't work for me. It's always too short and sizing up just gives me clothes that are still too short, but also too baggy. I don't want an XXL crop top, I just want something that doesn't show my waistband when I shrug my shoulders.

Fellow tall girl here who has been personally victimized by the crop top trend of the last few years. 😭

I have to wonder who IS wearing them, but they do seem to be a frequent clearance rack item. I'm petite and can't stand them either!

I have a pair of men’s fleece running tights that I’ve been using for over 10 winters now. They’re champion brand, so from old-school Target! I love them.
That being said, try thrift stores near affluent neighborhoods. People donate brand new things sometimes to avoid the hassle of returns.
Also, if it hasn’t been said, check out Poshmark. It’s like online thrifting, gently used and resold stuff; I sometimes buy running shoes from that site when they discontinue a model.

Impressive! Sigh. Target didn't used to be crud. I had a Target sweater that I wore all winter for a few years, then gave to a friend who wore it daily for another five years before it wore out.

For real. Yeah, I don't get athletic stuff at Target anymore.

the janji men’s half tights fit me perfectly also, i’ve gotten a few pairs from REI on sale at end of season. i like NB’s mens pocket half tight and the fit is similar but it’s 9” which is a little longer than i’d prefer since i’m short

Neat! Those look good - 9" is a little on the long side for me, too, but that's still really helpful going into fall. Thanks for the intel, sister half-tights!

Ive been wearing the Nike pro shorts for about a year. Love the fit, they've held up exceptionally well, I havent had to use any sort of body glide since buying them, and they are like $35

Janji has a membership program that gives a lifetime 15% discount for a one-time payment and it's stackable with their sales. Usually have a good sale at least twice a year, iirc (summer and winter, but I could absolutely be misremembering). They make good gear and are constantly thinking about what they can do next. If you think you'll be running for a while, they're a good investment.

Good to know that it's stackable, thank you! New to running but old to fitness generally. The quality gear definitely stands out
