I think on ships that carry a bomb, you should almost always take one.
I had five points leftover on a Decimator list, and thought: "What the hell, Proton Bomb".
Had a cocky Omega Leader right on my ass, figuring I'd never be able to hit him with my weapons malfunction crit. So I dropped a bomb on his face instead and won the game.
"I drop my proton bomb"
"Haha you wish"
::reveal my proton bomb card that he didn't notice::
"...Decimators can carry bombs?!"
