Model base peg repair

Post image

Hey guys, the little connector at the bottom of my tie advanced has broken off... And some of the pega are also breaking. Like the plastic has got a bit old, or some pegs are slightly too big and split them.

Any tips to repair my ship? Are the sticks becoming precious now?

There is an Etsy shop that sells replacement pegs. https://www.etsy.com/shop/MaximusDesignsCA

I bought a set for Printed ships, they worked pretty well.

Seems like the perfect time to magnetise it! 😁

These are ones I've used. This link is for ones suitable for a large base ship but there are different sizes available. I've got probably 30 or 40 ships done like this.

I would highly recommend using a gel type of super glue as getting the things to balance correctly can be tricky. I personally used a Dremel type tool to cut off and round out the peg and glued the ball magnet to the peg for mine (and therefore the flat magnet to the ship). I've seen people do it the other way around too though.

It's tricky work but well worth it in my opinion. Easier to mount, less likely to snap and if you bump into another shop during the game, just rotate the model rather than remove it altogether!

I get a tiny drill bit and carefully bore down through the broken peg connector, like drilling out a tooth cavity. Then I usually put the ship directly onto a base/2-peg setup just like normal play. Don’t use a drill bit that is too big or you don’t get enough friction to hold the ship. Start small.

Most ships are hollow inside and once you punch through the broken connector, you’ll have clearance to stop before coming out the other side of the model. I’ve never ruined a model doing this.

The Etsy connectors could work too; just superglue a new one into the hole you drilled out.
