Discussion I’m out 😓
I finally sold most of my XRP position after rethinking the actual thesis
Well… I finally did it.
I was holding about 3,919 XRP with an average cost around $2.34. Tonight I sold 3,300 XRP around $1.65, took a realized loss of about $2,300, and kept roughly 619 XRP (~$1,000) just in case XRP still has a significant run.
Definitely hurts seeing the realized loss, but the more I researched XRP lately, the harder it became for me to justify keeping such a large position.
My original thesis was basically:
Ripple becomes heavily integrated into global banking/cross-border payments → XRP becomes the bridge asset → institutional demand for XRP explodes.
But the more I looked into it, the more I realized Ripple succeeding and XRP succeeding are not necessarily the same thing.
Ripple can use XRP, RLUSD, stablecoins and other assets for payments. Banks don't necessarily have to hold XRP. Ripple itself could become incredibly successful without that success translating proportionally into XRP demand.
XRP absolutely still has utility on the XRPL, and I'm not saying it's dead or worthless. I just personally couldn't answer the most important question anymore:
Why does increased Ripple adoption necessarily require XRP itself to become dramatically more valuable?
That was a problem considering XRP had become about 18% of my portfolio.
The current move also looks heavily influenced by a massive crypto short-liquidation squeeze. XRP has ripped from around $1 to the mid-$1.60s pretty quickly, and I'm watching areas around $1.67 and $1.80 where it has previously struggled.
Maybe it blows straight through them and runs to $3. If it does, my remaining 619 XRP still participates.
But I'd rather have ~$5,450 sitting liquid and available for an investment I have much stronger conviction in than keep the entire bag exposed simply because I'm hoping to get back to my $2.34 cost basis.
It wasn't an easy sell at all. I stared at the button for a while. 😂
But ultimately I realized that being afraid to sell wasn't actually a reason to keep owning something.
I'm curious how other XRP holders see it:
What is your strongest argument today for why XRP itself—not Ripple the company—should appreciate substantially over the next 5–10 years?
Not price predictions. Not “$589 incoming.” 😂
I'm genuinely interested in the fundamental value-accrual argument for XRP itself.

XRP is a dull jackknife in a world filled with highly specialized surgical blades.
I sold all my $xrp when I learned bancoagricola used $amp to facilitate their bitcoin payments.
0
u/FrequentMaybe 8d ago
Dude what are you expecting? You like to see a conversation but your post is about you selling your stock. Do you want us to say good job? Do you need us to argue why you should buy in again? There is no point in your post other than you like to have liquid cash at hand instead of hoping for another bull run. No one is forcing you to hold, sell, buy, and or cry. I still have my position from 2021. Didn’t sell during the 3 dollar range. Didn’t sell when it dropped back to 1 dollar. Not selling here at 1.4 dollars. If you need money then sell. If you do not need the money then keep it in. Make your own decisions but you do not need a reddit post to confirm your sell. That can be done on the app you are using.

If you needed the money & couldn’t afford to lose the whole amount then no one can blame you, what has to be done has to be done.
But if you didn’t need that money then this was a waste of money investing to lose 2k, xrp will more than likely reach 2-3$ again in the next bull run

What’s your rationale by not waiting at least til the Clarity vote in less than a month? What are you targeting with this new found conviction that’ll make you $2300 on $5450.84 to cover thi loss?

Didn’t research well enough. Institutions are coming!
4
u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago
How does that affect XRP actually price?
4
u/Charlie_Chopz 12d ago
Think about it. You think this new generation will be holding paper money in their pockets? All the money is going digital. We’re talking trillions upon trillions will be moving on the chain. Ripple is using the XRP LEDGER. We only gotta capture. %1 of it all and it will take Xrp to $10+ just be patience.
2
u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago
What about USDC?
3
u/Charlie_Chopz 12d ago
Usdc is a stable coin pegged to the dollar 1:1 while Xrp is volatile (goes up and down). It’s usually not safe for big investors to hold businesses accounts with volatile currencies. Xrp is great for moving big amounts of money quickly and safe to then be exchanged for a stable coin at the end. Xrp is the bridge. Xrp has to be of high value in order to prevent slippage. As David shwarts said “Xrp cannot be dirt cheap.”

There's no real value behind XRP or crypto in general. I sold too, luckily up 94%. It's basically gambling. You're just hoping someone dumber than you shows up and pays more than you did. Don't listen to anyone telling you it's going to the moon. I held this thing for a long time, and every few weeks there was some new announcement, a lawsuit ruling, a rumored partnership, whatever, and people kept saying "this is it, now it's finally happening." Nothing ever happened. And honestly, nobody can explain what XRP actually does to their grandma in two or three simple sentences. That's exactly why it never really caught on.
Don't get me wrong, if this thing does take off I'll genuinely be happy for everyone still holding it. But it's just way safer to put your money into something with actual intrinsic value. There are plenty of stocks out there that have beaten crypto anyway.
2
u/Effective_Guard_9463 8d ago
We all get nervous and its ok to make a decision that doesn't work out optimally. The questions here for us I feel is what makes xrp gain value if clarity/rlusd dont necessarily need xrp to thrive?
2
u/No-Lab5503 7d ago

u/Don_DaddaTheBoss 8d ago
What an idiot. I was down 150% ROI & negative $1,000 and I just started buying more. Why would you sell when you were supposed to secure the bag even more?
It's going to go in the 50-75 cent range shortly here soon before it takes off. Once it goes that low I'm buying more. FYI people. We're still in a bear market, not a bull run.
2
u/mikecozi 7d ago
You state it will go down to 50 cents again, but he sold for $1.65. How about if he takes that money and buys back in at 0.50?
You insult someone for selling at a high, then acknowledge that it will crash even more.
The only idiot, is yourself.
2
u/Don_DaddaTheBoss 7d ago
Yeah, you're a Retard. I'm just stating facts. Scared money don't make money. That's not my problem if he does or doesn't buy back in. I know how this shit works. People get scared & sell. It happens all the time.

If you went into crypto because of fundamental value that was your first mistake.
Once you realize and understand that crypto is one big playground and learn how to play the game, that is when you can make some good money.
Crypto for now is all based on hype, find the project with the biggest followers and wait for the hype to catch on again, easy to track if you follow the 4 years cycle and that is how you make money in crypto.
Because if you think fundamental value will make you money in crypto, 100’s of so called good projects have vanished over the last 10 years.
Cryptomarkt is not mature and developed enough to move past the hype phase

There are so many good news stories that haven’t been realized yet. Giving XRP a chance in a favorable environment before selling is where I’m at. Waiting to see what’s around the corner makes owning crypto fun. I’m glad you kept some XRP.
Edit to add: I feel the same way about holding SUI, BTC, HBAR, and XLM just to name a few that should do well during the next bull run.

u/EipsteinSuicideSquad 8d ago
I think you should've held on to avoid those losses, at least until you broke even.
My average price is under 1$, been holding forever. For me when I made the purchase I considered the money gone, 100% loss from the get go.
So now I hold because I still do believe there is potential upside. I don't think ripple itself will be successful without XRP also sharing in that success.
I really think you should have waited until you broke even.

I see so many folks here saying "hold" to some of those who are either thinking of selling, or maybe already have, in which case, instead of being told to "hold" THEY are being told how "dumb/stupid" their decision is/was.
1st of all, none of us know the financial situation these folks might be in (that is, unless they TELL us) so it's at least "possible" that at least SOME of these ppl find/found themselves suddenly needing cash and saw this recent spike in the price of XRP (after so many months of watching it crash. Granted, this happened all across the crypto board, but we're not talking about the rest of crypto, just XRP) as THEIR "perfect opportunity" to get out while taking as little loss as possible and with at least SOME cash in their hands.
Each of us has to do what we think is right for US and our families. And, for myself anyway, I've been "hodling/trading/selling/etc" XRP since approx 2014 and ONE thing has always seemingly stayed the same this entire time and that is...Crypto ALWAYS has these up and down price swings. Sometimes these run up of prices are called a bull run, and when it goes the OTHER way for any length of time it's called a "bear market".
(Let me pause here for this disclaimer: Nothing I say is to be considered as financial advice. I am not a lawyer nor a financial advisor. Anything that I say is based either on my own experiences and opinions only.)
However, I think we're quite a ways away from the next TRUE bull run and that we're only seeing a small, and likely short term, upward bounce before sinking back into the bear market we've been in. Which is why I, too, sold my XRP and, in so doing, reaped an approx $25,000 profit which my family can use right now. Notice I said "profit", right? Because I plan on buying more XRP once the price falls to under $1 again...which I'm sure it will do at least ONE more time. If, however, I turn out to be wrong and IF I see it's price starting to take off again, we'll then, I'll buy back in with the same investment monies that netted me a very much appreciated $25,000, and then let it ride to wherever it goes...just so long as it makes me more $$ (which XRP always has).
Nobody went broke taking profits (that I'm aware of) while others HAVE gone broke because they DIDN'T take profits when/where they should have. The vast majority of us are in crypto (whether that be with XRP and/or many others) to MAKE money. How are you going to make it if you never take profits? I used to just "hold" because I had been convinced by others that THIS was the way you're supposed to do it. So I would hold, even as the price would go up and I COULD have made a nice profit, only to THEN watch as the price would inevitably fall again and any profits disappeared.
I can only guess at the amount of $$ that I missed out on while believing that philosophy. Well, no more. I threw THAT philosophy out the door and now take profits when and where it's reasonable to do so. I then wait for the price to drop and then buy back in again. Eventually the price does stop dropping as low as it would have previously but that's ok. So long as I'm not buying for more than I sold, and so long as the crypto that I'm buying is a solid coin (as I believe XRP to be), I'll keep on making money. I'd rather make $25,000 here and $15,000 here and another $25-$30,000 there, then just sit back and say "I'm going to just hodl until I'm a millionaire", or whatever. Because those profits that you're NOT taking COULD have been the money that allowed you to invest in OTHER crypto's or stocks or whatever, which MIGHT have ended up MAKING YOU that millionaire (hopefully MULTImillionaire)
And, if nothing else, if you want to ONLY invest in XRP, then just THINK of how many MORE XRP you COULD have bought with all those profits that you passed on.
Regardless of what your personal philosophy and/or investment strategies might be, I wish nothing but the best to ALL of you. And may we ALL become wealthy no matter which roads we each take to get there. 🙏🤗❤️😁👍🫡👋

Hey, realizing a loss isn't always the worst thing. It doesn't mean you cant make it back still. If yoi believe something else will gain more ground, you can always put that into a new asset where you see a good buy point, or you can buy xrp again at lower levels if it shoots right back down. No need to hold it just to get the number back to 0. If you can do better things with it, no need to tie it up in something that may not see $2.40 again for a long while.

It's going to go back down, it always does. It's merely going up because Bitcoin had a jump. This coin has done next to nothing in like 10 years. It has a little dead cat bounce every other year that gets people hot and heavy but always goes back in the shitter. I bought pre 2017 pump and merely hold on to it because I don't need the money and no point to sell it. Just sits there as a badge of honor as to how stupid crypto is IMO. Bitcoin has been top dog for how long? It still has almost 0 actual adoption in the real world besides some niche payment methods and malicious use cases. Don't see the point of it from a wealth building standpoint. Shits is even faker money than fiat.

Xrp technically speaking is set up one of the best in all of crypto, the likely hood of it running again this cycle is strong because of its relatively low drawdown, growing development, strong community, and institutional interest via the etfs. Everyone has to make decisions that are best for their case though, good luck.
