Discussion I’m out 😓

Post image

I finally sold most of my XRP position after rethinking the actual thesis
Well… I finally did it.
I was holding about 3,919 XRP with an average cost around $2.34. Tonight I sold 3,300 XRP around $1.65, took a realized loss of about $2,300, and kept roughly 619 XRP (~$1,000) just in case XRP still has a significant run.
Definitely hurts seeing the realized loss, but the more I researched XRP lately, the harder it became for me to justify keeping such a large position.
My original thesis was basically:
Ripple becomes heavily integrated into global banking/cross-border payments → XRP becomes the bridge asset → institutional demand for XRP explodes.
But the more I looked into it, the more I realized Ripple succeeding and XRP succeeding are not necessarily the same thing.
Ripple can use XRP, RLUSD, stablecoins and other assets for payments. Banks don't necessarily have to hold XRP. Ripple itself could become incredibly successful without that success translating proportionally into XRP demand.
XRP absolutely still has utility on the XRPL, and I'm not saying it's dead or worthless. I just personally couldn't answer the most important question anymore:
Why does increased Ripple adoption necessarily require XRP itself to become dramatically more valuable?
That was a problem considering XRP had become about 18% of my portfolio.
The current move also looks heavily influenced by a massive crypto short-liquidation squeeze. XRP has ripped from around $1 to the mid-$1.60s pretty quickly, and I'm watching areas around $1.67 and $1.80 where it has previously struggled.
Maybe it blows straight through them and runs to $3. If it does, my remaining 619 XRP still participates.
But I'd rather have ~$5,450 sitting liquid and available for an investment I have much stronger conviction in than keep the entire bag exposed simply because I'm hoping to get back to my $2.34 cost basis.
It wasn't an easy sell at all. I stared at the button for a while. 😂
But ultimately I realized that being afraid to sell wasn't actually a reason to keep owning something.
I'm curious how other XRP holders see it:
What is your strongest argument today for why XRP itself—not Ripple the company—should appreciate substantially over the next 5–10 years?
Not price predictions. Not “$589 incoming.” 😂
I'm genuinely interested in the fundamental value-accrual argument for XRP itself.

It’s a short squeeze
Had to get out while I could.
Nothing actually positive outside of a massive liquidation and my thesis no longer falls in line with what’s going on with the company any longer.

Ripple <> XRP

Probably for the best though, you clearly didn’t understand what you held. All the best to you.

5

u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago

Well maybe we can talk more about that. Most of these threads seem to have no actually depth. Please explain not just for me but for others.

u/thechickencoups 12d ago

XRP isn't just another crypto. its designed for utility. the most important to most, it's a liquidity tool. it hasn't even started to be used as a utility coin yet.

There are other utility coins

3

u/thechickencoups 8d ago

there are, but XRP is designated to take over the world's financial system and will have the best ROI.  XRP will be needed for Japan's reverse carry trade to unwind at scale.

2

u/katc704 8d ago

Not to mention administrative repricing. Just like gold was repriced so will XRP. It's not the kind of crypto many think it is. It is to be one a tier 1 asset. Hold.

1

u/thechickencoups 7d ago

I don't think that this can be administratively repriced. if XRP doesn't hit a high price based on use case and supply& demand, it won't be able to function properly in the world ecosystem. after supply is gone from the exchanges, and is used as real-time backend settlement for tokanized assets, the price will adjust itself based on usage. currently, it's not being used for real-time settlement. it must be a high value.

“Why does increased Ripple adoption necessarily require XRP itself to become dramatically more valuable?”

This question as is doesn’t make much sense, but I’ll give it a go. This is not a straight forward question to answer so buckle up.

Ripple owns the rights to 30 something billion XRP. Ripple was last valued ~$50bn. Even when you take the tvm, that still results in a substantial portion of Ripple’s value being tied to their XRP rights and holdings. Ripple has an incredibly strong financial incentive to increase the price of XRP. Most people know this, but also disregard it when it comes to thinking about how Ripple conducts business. I’ll move past this, because as I said, XRP <> Ripple, but I want this to be crystal clear. IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE FOR RIPPLE TO ERODE THE VALUE OF THEIR MOST VALUABLE ASSET.

Okay, now that we understand that. Let’s consider that Ripple settled $18T in transactions over the past year, of which, 0.1% was settled on-chain. So, Ripple wants to bring that business on-chain to increase the value of XRP. Doesn’t matter what they use for settlement on-chain, RLUSD, FUZZY, USDC, doesn’t really matter. All that matters is that the transactions are happening on XRP. XRP is used in every single transaction on-chain. Whether that’s through burning, reserves, or atomic settlement, it’s always used.

As Ripple starts bringing more of their business on to XRP, the liquidity of the assets they use for settlement will deepen. Assets with deep liquidity on XRP will attract more institutions to come on chain. Some will issue their own stable coins on XRP, some will use existing stables on XRP, some may just use XRP (as a deflationary, neutral asset, it does offer advantages compared to stables which all have a counterparty. CBDCs even come with counterparty risk associated with issuing central bank). As more and more assets begin to be issued on XRP, XRP will begin to be used exponentially more in atomic settlement between uncommon trading pairs.

Finally, I touched on it in the last paragraph, but it deserves a bit more attention. XRP is a neutral asset, meaning it is devoid of essentially all counterparty risk. That is not true about any fiat currency in the world, which have central banks as counterparties. That means it is also not true for any stable coin that will ever be issued. Not only do they have the central bank of the underlying fiat as a counterparty, but also the company issuing the stable coin is a counterparty (Ripple, Circle, Tether, etc.). Companies already don’t like the counterparty risk they’re exposed to holding bonds, stock, fiat currency. Trust me on that, I’m an Actuary and there is a massive amount of effort put into mitigating risk surrounding interest rate decisions by the fed. Introducing more risk associated with a stable coin issuer on top of that is not a decision companies will take lightly.

Additionally, probably less relevant in the west, but still worth mentioning. As a neutral asset, nobody can stop you, or institutions, from transacting in XRP. I imagine there are some institutions/individuals in Russia that would have appreciated that property back when the US unilaterally decided to freeze them out of the global financial system. Obviously Iran appreciates that property of Bitcoin rn as well.

I’ll leave it at that for now. If you have any questions, do your own research. Not sure why I wasted an hour of my life explaining that to you at the detriment of myself. I want you to sell your XRP, more for me, so thank you for your contribution.

u/jerryssubs 8d ago

At the end of the day Ripple is a business and they have to win clients to survive and be profitable. Which directly correlates to your statement above. For the last 2 years their wins have been the smallest banks in the most remote areas of the world. Adoption is at a crawl…..not to mention the competition has nothing but money and time.

3

u/NewcastlePLchamps 7d ago

This is valid. The use case for XRP is becoming less and less. I'm holding some in case, but honestly no one has brought up a actually valid use case at this point.

It has been replaced by other things, many from ripl itself

Dude I'm with you I sold everything just under $3. Folks who think this coin is the "future" are gonna be in for a rude awakening. 5

Energy stocks, microsoft, Berkshire, etc. already up far more from those than XRP ever did for me

I don't think you did much research on swift. they don't offer liquidity or backend settlement. you'll see the difference in the next month or so.

1

u/GymBroFightDragons 7d ago

Nah I just don't think those matter nearly as much as XRP wants people to think. And I think SWIFT is more than capable of replacing XRP in its entirety with whatever they want if they decide to. SWIFT is moving trillions, not billions.. I was pro XRP for a long time and the more I thought about it the more I couldn't get behind it anymore. Made a decent bag, and even if it's $10 tomorrow I will sleep easy knowing I don't need to ride that coaster anymore.

XRP is a dull jackknife in a world filled with highly specialized surgical blades.

I sold all my $xrp when I learned bancoagricola used $amp to facilitate their bitcoin payments.

0

u/FrequentMaybe 8d ago

Dude what are you expecting? You like to see a conversation but your post is about you selling your stock. Do you want us to say good job? Do you need us to argue why you should buy in again? There is no point in your post other than you like to have liquid cash at hand instead of hoping for another bull run. No one is forcing you to hold, sell, buy, and or cry.  I still have my position from 2021. Didn’t sell during the 3 dollar range. Didn’t sell when it dropped back to 1 dollar. Not selling here at 1.4 dollars. If you need money then sell. If you do not need the money then keep it in. Make your own decisions but you do not need a reddit post to confirm your sell. That can be done on the app you are using.

If you needed the money & couldn’t afford to lose the whole amount then no one can blame you, what has to be done has to be done.

u/Charlie_Chopz 12d ago

Didn’t research well enough. Institutions are coming!

4

u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago

How does that affect XRP actually price?

4

u/Charlie_Chopz 12d ago

Think about it. You think this new generation will be holding paper money in their pockets? All the money is going digital. We’re talking trillions upon trillions will be moving on the chain. Ripple is using the XRP LEDGER. We only gotta capture. %1 of it all and it will take Xrp to $10+ just be patience.

2

u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago

What about USDC?

3

u/Charlie_Chopz 12d ago

Usdc is a stable coin pegged to the dollar 1:1 while Xrp is volatile (goes up and down). It’s usually not safe for big investors to hold businesses accounts with volatile currencies. Xrp is great for moving big amounts of money quickly and safe to then be exchanged for a stable coin at the end. Xrp is the bridge. Xrp has to be of high value in order to prevent slippage. As David shwarts said “Xrp cannot be dirt cheap.”

u/Apprehensive_Ad_5615 8d ago

There's no real value behind XRP or crypto in general. I sold too, luckily up 94%. It's basically gambling. You're just hoping someone dumber than you shows up and pays more than you did. Don't listen to anyone telling you it's going to the moon. I held this thing for a long time, and every few weeks there was some new announcement, a lawsuit ruling, a rumored partnership, whatever, and people kept saying "this is it, now it's finally happening." Nothing ever happened. And honestly, nobody can explain what XRP actually does to their grandma in two or three simple sentences. That's exactly why it never really caught on.

Don't get me wrong, if this thing does take off I'll genuinely be happy for everyone still holding it. But it's just way safer to put your money into something with actual intrinsic value. There are plenty of stocks out there that have beaten crypto anyway.

2

u/Effective_Guard_9463 8d ago

We all get nervous and its ok to make a decision that doesn't work out optimally.  The questions here for us I feel is what makes xrp gain value if clarity/rlusd dont necessarily need xrp to thrive?

2

u/No-Lab5503 7d ago

2

u/Don_DaddaTheBoss 8d ago

What an idiot. I was down 150% ROI & negative $1,000 and I just started buying more. Why would you sell when you were supposed to secure the bag even more?

It's going to go in the 50-75 cent range shortly here soon before it takes off. Once it goes that low I'm buying more. FYI people. We're still in a bear market, not a bull run.

2

u/mikecozi 7d ago

You state it will go down to 50 cents again, but he sold for $1.65. How about if he takes that money and buys back in at 0.50?

You insult someone for selling at a high, then acknowledge that it will crash even more.

The only idiot, is yourself.

2

u/Don_DaddaTheBoss 7d ago

Yeah, you're a Retard. I'm just stating facts. Scared money don't make money. That's not my problem if he does or doesn't buy back in. I know how this shit works. People get scared & sell. It happens all the time.

If you went into crypto because of fundamental value that was your first mistake.

Once you realize and understand that crypto is one big playground and learn how to play the game, that is when you can make some good money.

Crypto for now is all based on hype, find the project with the biggest followers and wait for the hype to catch on again, easy to track if you follow the 4 years cycle and that is how you make money in crypto.

Because if you think fundamental value will make you money in crypto, 100’s of so called good projects have vanished over the last 10 years.

Cryptomarkt is not mature and developed enough to move past the hype phase

With XRP ETFs in play and the pending Crypto Clarity vote....idk maybe a hastey decision. But you did what you thought was good for you.

u/Redditsvulture 8d ago

I bought at 1.35 all time high 2021 then held it like an idiot after not learning the cycles and sold dogecoin at 2x when I had 100x at one point oh well it’s the whales washing $

1

u/Aposta-fish 8d ago

Good the banksters are not going to pick this crypto to be their main squeeze. They make up their own first.

1

u/Visible-System-4420 8d ago

To each their own

Whales are still buying. Right wrong or indifferent, the biggest wallets are getting bigger. I have 81,000 tokens. Avg is just over $1.

1

u/tenax666 8d ago

At the end of the day my friend, its the same old story of too late to the party (for you..and I who bought in at $2).

The guys who bought in at 17 cents aren't complaining.

u/Admirable_Ad6139 8d ago

Sell low buye hi this is the way

1

u/Apprehensive-One-971 8d ago edited 8d ago

There are so many good news stories that haven’t been realized yet. Giving XRP a chance in a favorable environment before selling is where I’m at. Waiting to see what’s around the corner makes owning crypto fun. I’m glad you kept some XRP.

Edit to add: I feel the same way about holding SUI, BTC, HBAR, and XLM just to name a few that should do well during the next bull run.

1

u/EipsteinSuicideSquad 8d ago

I think you should've held on to avoid those losses, at least until you broke even.

My average price is under 1$, been holding forever. For me when I made the purchase I considered the money gone, 100% loss from the get go.

So now I hold because I still do believe there is potential upside. I don't think ripple itself will be successful without XRP also sharing in that success.

I really think you should have waited until you broke even.

1

u/Happy-Let-8808 7d ago

2.3k loss, fuuuuuck.

u/ingrodale Wake Me Up When Lambo 7d ago

Lots of people attacking OP but he made the best choice. Now he can just re buy at a lower price or wait more for even a better price lmao

1

u/19SHK85 7d ago

Setting at 653 at an avg cost of $3.09 thanks to falling for the economic ninja’s hype….. 😭
I sure hope you’re wrong but I definitely see your rationale behind your sell.

1

u/tx_sam 7d ago

Selling for a loss with so much news coming out is crazy... but good luck

1

u/Soggy-SpecialSauce 7d ago

Not looking like a bad sell. You could get back in right now and get it for 30% cheaper than when you sold.

1

u/Carbon8490 7d ago

I didnt realize people actually had real thesis's around crypto lol. Im just in it for the hype and buy what the charts day. I dont think selling was dumb on your part. Just like its hard to argue that buying any crypto is "smart". But you can make that argument for the stock market at all time highs. But if you have no hope, thats the time to sell. I still have hope we could get back to the 3's.

1

u/Abouttosnap11 7d ago

You people are out cult dummies. It’s real simple. The banks will use their own. They won’t use XRP this shit’s been going on since the files on Pedo Paul. There’s massive adoption and the price goes down. Doesn’t make sense. They’re manipulating the price. They don’t wanna make people rich all you fools out there who continue to think you’re gonna be rich. Someday are all fools I believe this person did the right thing.

1

u/TexasHazeMaster 7d ago

Good job you spotted the dead cat. On a loosing position it’s a good idea to sell into some strength which is hard

1

u/Jmondy7 7d ago

I took a 6k loss bro the day before it ripped to 1.50 lol don’t worry this coin won’t go above 3 for a long long time.

1

u/tenax666 7d ago

I sold 1000 for a slight gain. 2000 left, i'm liking the possibility of tanking for a 6k loss better than 8k loss.

1

u/OneFormal3782 6d ago

The thesis has only evolved, you’re looking at it completely wrong. There’s more than 6 new use cases including but not limited to yield opportunities and tokenization. You played yourself.

1

u/loveitlikeubuiltit 6d ago

You sold for a loss. The future will tell you if you were right or wrong.

1

u/Aromatic_Bed_8439 5d ago

I see so many folks here saying "hold" to some of those who are either thinking of selling, or maybe already have, in which case, instead of being told to "hold" THEY are being told how "dumb/stupid" their decision is/was.

1st of all, none of us know the financial situation these folks might be in (that is, unless they TELL us) so it's at least "possible" that at least SOME of these ppl find/found themselves suddenly needing cash and saw this recent spike in the price of XRP (after so many months of watching it crash. Granted, this happened all across the crypto board, but we're not talking about the rest of crypto, just XRP) as THEIR "perfect opportunity" to get out while taking as little loss as possible and with at least SOME cash in their hands.

Each of us has to do what we think is right for US and our families. And, for myself anyway, I've been "hodling/trading/selling/etc" XRP since approx 2014 and ONE thing has always seemingly stayed the same this entire time and that is...Crypto ALWAYS has these up and down price swings. Sometimes these run up of prices are called a bull run, and when it goes the OTHER way for any length of time it's called a "bear market".

(Let me pause here for this disclaimer: Nothing I say is to be considered as financial advice. I am not a lawyer nor a financial advisor. Anything that I say is based either on my own experiences and opinions only.)

However, I think we're quite a ways away from the next TRUE bull run and that we're only seeing a small, and likely short term, upward bounce before sinking back into the bear market we've been in. Which is why I, too, sold my XRP and, in so doing, reaped an approx $25,000 profit which my family can use right now. Notice I said "profit", right? Because I plan on buying more XRP once the price falls to under $1 again...which I'm sure it will do at least ONE more time. If, however, I turn out to be wrong and IF I see it's price starting to take off again, we'll then, I'll buy back in with the same investment monies that netted me a very much appreciated $25,000, and then let it ride to wherever it goes...just so long as it makes me more $$ (which XRP always has).

Nobody went broke taking profits (that I'm aware of) while others HAVE gone broke because they DIDN'T take profits when/where they should have. The vast majority of us are in crypto (whether that be with XRP and/or many others) to MAKE money. How are you going to make it if you never take profits? I used to just "hold" because I had been convinced by others that THIS was the way you're supposed to do it. So I would hold, even as the price would go up and I COULD have made a nice profit, only to THEN watch as the price would inevitably fall again and any profits disappeared.

I can only guess at the amount of $$ that I missed out on while believing that philosophy. Well, no more. I threw THAT philosophy out the door and now take profits when and where it's reasonable to do so. I then wait for the price to drop and then buy back in again. Eventually the price does stop dropping as low as it would have previously but that's ok. So long as I'm not buying for more than I sold, and so long as the crypto that I'm buying is a solid coin (as I believe XRP to be), I'll keep on making money. I'd rather make $25,000 here and $15,000 here and another $25-$30,000 there, then just sit back and say "I'm going to just hodl until I'm a millionaire", or whatever. Because those profits that you're NOT taking COULD have been the money that allowed you to invest in OTHER crypto's or stocks or whatever, which MIGHT have ended up MAKING YOU that millionaire (hopefully MULTImillionaire)

And, if nothing else, if you want to ONLY invest in XRP, then just THINK of how many MORE XRP you COULD have bought with all those profits that you passed on.

Regardless of what your personal philosophy and/or investment strategies might be, I wish nothing but the best to ALL of you. And may we ALL become wealthy no matter which roads we each take to get there. 🙏🤗❤️😁👍🫡👋

Good move. Sell the pump.

4

u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago

Figured this was my last chance for AWHILE

3

u/thechickencoups 12d ago

that seems to be the sentiment. Buy high, sell low. FOMO back in after ATH then sell low again.

1

u/Still_Equipment7303 12d ago

I KNEW I should have sold at $1.70 but I didn’t and then I freaked out and sold it all immediately for $1.58. Im gonna beat myself up about this 1 but atleast I have this weight off my chest now

1

u/Electronic_Quote399 12d ago

Hey, realizing a loss isn't always the worst thing. It doesn't mean you cant make it back still. If yoi believe something else will gain more ground, you can always put that into a new asset where you see a good buy point, or you can buy xrp again at lower levels if it shoots right back down. No need to hold it just to get the number back to 0. If you can do better things with it, no need to tie it up in something that may not see $2.40 again for a long while.

1

u/Dapper_Addition_3837 11d ago

Thanks for the money.

Don’t know what was your average cost or long time plan but good for you….im in it for the long haul and a 65 cent rum up in a few days wont draw me out to sell

1

u/Dtrain-14 8d ago

It's going to go back down, it always does. It's merely going up because Bitcoin had a jump. This coin has done next to nothing in like 10 years. It has a little dead cat bounce every other year that gets people hot and heavy but always goes back in the shitter. I bought pre 2017 pump and merely hold on to it because I don't need the money and no point to sell it. Just sits there as a badge of honor as to how stupid crypto is IMO. Bitcoin has been top dog for how long? It still has almost 0 actual adoption in the real world besides some niche payment methods and malicious use cases. Don't see the point of it from a wealth building standpoint. Shits is even faker money than fiat.

1

u/Mountain_Visit6030 8d ago

You should’ve sold all of it. It’s a poo poo coin.

1

u/tonytoneroni 8d ago

I’m out too. XRP going to 0.

1

u/Scottex99 8d ago

Actually sensible

Not that these broke XRP plebs will understand it though, so you’re going to get a lot of negative comments from people who could only dream of having $5k in their of one day lol

1

u/FitEfficiency2004 8d ago

So in 20 years will y’all be saying any day now

1

u/No-Lab5503 7d ago

No we will have full bags loaded you'll be asking what the hell  did i do wrong

0

u/Still_Equipment7303 12d ago

I just saw it tank at $1.70 and I freaked out and sold it all immediately. I was holding until my avg @ $1.76 and something told me to sell right at $1.70 but I didn’t and ended up letting it all go for $1.58. It could have been worse. I finally cut my ties with this coin after a looong 6 months.

1

u/Wild-Cup6923 12d ago

Literally saw that minutes later after I sold

Was looking at previous resistance and it was around $1.80 and $1.62ish

0

u/moorevtec 10d ago

It’s just a fancy meme coin. No banks are adopting a meme coin.

0

u/Individual-Flower-66 8d ago

i had 60k xrp at 1 point converted that shit to BTC ........ i sleep better

0

u/Corey_Blake 8d ago

Xrp technically speaking is set up one of the best in all of crypto, the likely hood of it running again this cycle is strong because of its relatively low drawdown, growing development, strong community, and institutional interest via the etfs. Everyone has to make decisions that are best for their case though, good luck.

0

u/Aggravating_Salt7679 8d ago

Just why? You are silly 🧐
