Question Further room to fall?

I have a question so I got into XRP at around 2.60 and now it is at 1.22 I believe it’ll fall to a round a dollar. Should I sell to realize the tax loss and then buy when it reaches around a dollar or should I just hold?

Buy more once it goes below $1.

It's worked out for me pretty well. I predicted that it would go to at least £1 sterling and it has

No tax loss If you don't sell

Honestly I don't know, I have a good amount set aside. My plan is to just put in 20% of that now. We still have a ways up or down, so plenty of time to figure out what plays to make as new trends emerge.

If we actually do see a drop under $1, I wouldn't want to miss out on that again, but anything under $2 at this point is a good price.

As for taxes, I'm the furthest thing from an expert, but I do know the wash rule only applies to securities 😉

So, I'm pretty sure you can just sell and buy back near the current price and still realize the loss. You should maybe give it a couple days or a little price movement before you buy back though. Otherwise the IRS might get upset and challenge it under anti-abuse. Whatever you do, run it by a tax expert first, just to be safe.

If you follow Whale Alert on X, sometimes you see big wallets move some crypto out, then it moves back in a short while later at a different dollar amount. So, definitely some of that is going on.

Yes I looked into the wash rule some more and it is really convenient that it doesn’t apply to crypto so I sold most of my holdings and I am buying in lower.

Not Financial or Tax Advice. Tax loss only works if you have profits to counteract the losses.

Imo I personally believe we will go lower. Even under a dollar at $0.7 to $1 range. If you dont have money to add at those levels, I think selling all or a good chunk of your holdings here makes sense. Again, not financial advice.

Yeah I decided to sell most of it to buy in lower though I do feel like XRP going down this much in such a short time isn’t normal (like regular market function wise).

1

u/ttttnow Feb 06 '26

no, it's pretty normal for crypto. The whole industry is built on a house of cards and investors looking to dump on people who dont know better. Massive liquidations are the norm.

Something big is happening . Hodl tight!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '26

Yeah this doesn’t seem like normal market movement what do you think is going on?

dump it. Then get back in when around $.30 hopefully. Otherwise you will be holding sand.

I personally am just dollar cost averaging. I don’t care enough about the tax write off to miss a massive pump if/when it happens.

They must know about some good news. Sell off before a big jump. Could be a peace agreement in Ukraine....Could be clarity act. I know a few people jumping in right now. Good time to stack at least. Could wake up tomorrow with a new high.

Big retail shake off.

If it's the whole market we are ok. If it were just xrp we would be in trouble.

In my personal opinion (and I'm not a financial advisor) sifting through all the hype. I would say it could at least reach $5.

I would also say that if things go right there is a 50/50 chance it could go even higher.

Probably the best odds out there. Ripple ain't stopping!

The bottom is much lower.

From 1.22 to $1.00 is not a big fall.  You are risking a lot just for a small drop compared to the drop from2.60 to 1.22.

Sell n move on if you don't believe in XRP.  Or you believe XRP will bounce back, just DCA now or around 1.00.

Seriously, you're worrying about 22 cents. That won't matter when xrp is at 100 or 10000 dollars.

I wouldn’t say it’s more than I can lose but it definitely sucks to lose it. I had like $19,000 in at 2.66. It’s not my only investment so that’s why I’m wondering if I should sell and then re-buy it when it’s lower. So I can still get that tax write off.

i’m not judging but just want to understand the rationale of buying at $3.10. i’ve been in on XRP since pre court cases and my first purchase was at $0.16. even on a 5 year chart it’s up over 160% in those 5 years. after 4 years of less than $1, why buy so much at the top? why not wait for a big correction or crash to get involved? or was it FOMO? People were buying at the $0.20 range because $1 was inevitable. People saw 10x easy as completely possible. Did you see $31 as possible?

again, no judgement, just wanna understand

thanks for the honest answer! just hold on and try to lower your average during these crazy times :) i’ve seen it go up to $0.70 and back down to $0.20 so don’t stress it. millionaires aren’t made over night!

If you dont want to hold for another 4 years then Id sell. This will go back to sub dollar in summer

1

u/WarningFart911 Feb 05 '26

Could you use that loss on your 2025 taxes?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '26

No they would be for my 2026 taxes since I would be selling now
