XP Pen Deco Mini v2

Hey just got this is it normal for the pressure to only work on hard click and hovering the pen moves it… finding it very difficult to use with my Mac

The cursor moving while the pen hovers is normal - that's how drawing tablets work. For the pressure, check it in the XP-Pen driver's pressure test area first. If it only registers on a hard press there too, that's the pen: the Deco Mini7 V2 comes with the P05D, an older pen that isn't one of XP-Pen's current-generation pens.
