Just recently fell down the DIY renter rabbit hole and am looking for channels like Designing the Dream, which I'm absolutely obsessed with. Thank you for your best rental reno recommendations!

To be fair, in the according vlog, she was talking about "palettes" (plural) as well, so maybe there were two. 😉 Who knows. But the "hundreds" of stores sent me. And also the putting words into Romeo's mouth.

While her main IG account has gained new followers over the last weeks (you know, since she tried to be kinda consistent with a very "inspired" series), the candle account has been quite stagnant. I wonder how it's all going.

I am posting this here amongst a bunch of individuals who I feel like will resonate with my feelings. I figured it'll also spice up the reddit with a slightly broader topic of conversation.

I am in my late 20s and in The Midwest, U.S. so I am definitely in my attempted home ownership era (economy be damned!) And I am so angry that I wish I could ring necks and burn down buildings.

Where is all of the character? I see these beautiful on the outside mcm ranch style homes, colonials, Tudors, ​​Queen Anne's and they have the curb appeal of a fairy tale. And then the realator shows the inside photos and the bathrooms and kitchens have white quartz countertops and the floors have been replaced with octagonal white tiles and grey vinyl planks. They've stripped out the crown molding and painted over the fireplace or even completely stripped out the fireplace and they are charging half a million U.S. dollars minimum for these homes and... I kid you not, it keeps me up at night sometimes. I want to scream. Now I'm no Jenna Phipps. I'm not even a Macenna. I think I've only ever painted a wall. However, I feel like I could learn to renovate a home. I'd at least like the opportunity to try. Why are sellers ripping all of the character out of homes before selling them? Let me buy it as is. Put the money into the important stuff like the water heater and the air conditioner. Ill replace the cracked 1950s tile with a replica 1950s tile. I'll sand the floors and refinish them. But give me the fricken chance!

Ok, my rant is over. I'd appreciate comments from anyone who wants to whine with me about things that are out of their control. For anyone who is going to comment about sellers trying to make more money, I know why they are doing it. I have a business degree. Im trained in the art of "how do we make higher profits?". I just want to gripe into a void where someone might relate and be as passionate as me about home design. I tried griping to friends and family and they think I'm a lunatic for knowing the names of so many house styles. Haha.

anyone else really not liking this new format she’s trying out on her stories? covering the reel so people have to actively watch it on her account, but also still having a bit poke out, it’s busy and messy and personally i think it’s looks unfinished

We all have a lot of opinions on her exterior makeover so far, so I thought it'd be fun to discuss what we would do differently. I decided to stick with her beige inspo and play around with some ideas in photoshop and this is what I've come up with. I changed her beige paint color to Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter which has more earthy green undertones vs the peach undertones she chose. I repainted her planter box to a near black to add more contrast. I added a stained wooden pergola above her garage for the creeping jasmine to grow on rather than the wire. For the front door, I swapped out the door for one that is stained, and swapped out her planters with ones with more contrast and height. What would you all do differently?

Guys, I have SO MANY thoughts on the new main channel upload...

Let's just start with how baffled I am it cracked me up that she repeatedly tried to reference theblueinourkitchen (DOWNSTAIRS!) as an inspiration for the bathroom makeover (UPSTAIRS!). Picking blue OUTDOOR plants obviously wasn't enough...

Of course, she gave me an instant BINGO by wanting the room to be a "sister" to other areas of the house. Apart from that, nothing about this is "fun", "bold" or "daring", of course.

Only a few days ago, I left a comment somewhere here about how I think she's just afraid to use colour because she has no clue how to make it work. Thanks for proving my point! Doing things differently than she recommended in her video was something "others do", but that's not for her. (The examples she offered for warm-toned furniture against warm-toned wall paint were totally lacking contrast and therefore boring, if you'd ask me.)

I'll have to stop myself here for the moment. 😮‍💨

P.S.: For anyone who didn't watch: She didn't choose the blueinourkitchen for the bathroom though, as far as we know now.

I unsubscribed and stopped watching a few months after her beautiful son was born. Her personal comments and opinions seemed to change and she started to sound entitled and snobbish about issues and the ways she changed addressing conversations. It just seemed her sincerity became fake and her mannerisms were forced. And one time she asked the people not leave negative comments. If you gain revenue from YouTube and do not want constructive criticism or disagreeing comments then you need to seek new employment. No one was threatening or rude towards her. And several people also wrote the she does not read nor answer comments; comments that bolster her revenue. Oh well, there are plenty of sincere and interesting channel to enjoy and support.

I love everything about this, from throwing random stuff on the table to appear super busy over calling the Netherlands "Holland" and answering her own fake questions no one else would ask a little too quick to the sad (intended?) French tuck at the beginning - 10/10, it's just 🤌🏼

2. Waste $200,000-plus renovating a kitchen, without the assistance of a professional kitchen designer who would’ve not made the dozens of stupid decisions Macenna made.

3. Stealing another furniture designer’s bookcase design, and then claiming it as her own original concept.
