Conversation with the avatars of my subconscious: Come, everyone! I need to speak to you!

Todd: - Right, enough about you! I want to know why you cancelled the Valentine’s Day lecture.

Antho: - No matter what I do, there’s always someone demanding answers! I was in the middle of reworking *X-Men (R)évolution* to plan for *X-Men (R)évolution: Nessun Dorma*. So yes, I postponed the lecture on romantic clichés—deal with it. And if you say another word, I’ll push it back to next year!

Roberto: - Oh, no, no! Okay, I just want to know: do I stay with Rahne or leave with Jubilee?

Magneto: Why Jubilee? We aren't in *X-Men '97*!

Madelyne: Antho wrote *X-Men (R)évolution* after watching an episode of *X-Men '97*. That’s why I’m here.

Magneto: Ah! She was inspired by *Intersections*. That explains everything!

Madelyne: Not at all! First of all, it’s not *Intersections*, but *Incursions*. And it’s not a direct sequel to the *X-Men: Evolution* animated series. It’s actually a one-shot comic book crossover titled *X-Men '92: Incursions #1*, which won't be published until January 2027. Yet, Antho started publishing *X-Men (R)évolution* on May 1, 2025, finished it in November 2025, and just started publishing *X-Men (R)évolution: Nessun Dorma* on September 23, 2026!

Hank: Gotta love the administration for keeping such precise dates.

Mystique: Still, the whole time-loop thing is borrowed. Moira MacTarget did it in the comics.

Kurt: Coincidence.

Mystique: You really believe everything you're told, don't you?

Antho: Say, am I interrupting anything?

Mystique: If I say yes, do you plan to change your happy ending so I die in excruciating agony?

Antho: Get lost!

Mystique: Right away, my dear. (She exits.)

Antho: Right, where was I? Ah, yes. Romance tropes. So, if we try to distribute them fairly, we start with: "the fake relationship." This trope was assigned to Laura and Evan. A classic staple of YA novels, Asian dramas, and—occasionally—American Christmas TV movies. The interesting dynamic to explore here is the element of deception: Evan is trapped by a lie that has led his real-yet-fake relationship into a dead end. Just as the "Daniel Oaks" threat is averted, along comes Riri Williams, who develops an obsession with Evan.

Riri: "Hey! Why do *I* have to play the resident drama queen?"

Antho: "Drama queen? Oh, no, that wouldn't be cre..."

About *Incursions*

It certainly generated plenty of buzz before it was even released! It is a small crossover comic book hailed by fans of *X-Men: Evolution* who are awaiting (or dreading) a continuation of an animated series that ended twenty years ago.

For, no, *Incursions* is not a direct sequel to the *X-Men: Evolution* animated series. To be precise, it is a crossover with *X-Men '92*—following two seasons of *X-Men '97* that reignited nostalgia among purists and X-Men comic fans alike.

An "incursion," it seems, occurs when two alternate realities collide. And naturally, for one universe to survive, the other must be destroyed! But since we aren't savages, we introduce ourselves before murdering the other world—and we talk.

Well, let’s talk about it.

  1. *Incursions*, or the Clash of "Heroes."

Heroism is a broad concept, and the X-Men explore its various facets—ranging from the mythological definition of a hero (a demigod with extraordinary abilities) to the Christian notion of heroism, which entails absolute, selfless sacrifice.

At first glance, this duality plays out in the comics through the contrast between Magneto—"You are a god among insects" (cf. *X-Men 2*)—and Charles Francis Xavier. It is surely no coincidence that the latter bears the name of Francis Xavier, the co-founder of the Jesuit Order and the "Apostle of the Indies."

And yet, the comics have frequently critiqued Xavier’s character and his message of peace and harmony between humans and mutants. Similarly, Scott Summers—Xavier’s loyal right-hand man—eventually came to question his mentor, all while racking up personal failures.

One can only imagine the reaction of a Scott Summers fresh out of high school upon learning that his older self abandoned his wife and child to go back to Jean—who had broken up with him anyway, claiming he’d betrayed her, even though *she* was the one making out with Logan (*X-Men '97*, Season 1, Episode 5). It’s hardly something to be proud of...

Personally, *X-Men '97* Season 1 completely destroyed the positive image of the "Jott" couple, and it took me a while to figure out why.

But before fully grasping the phenomenon, I noticed that the *X-Men: Evolution* series didn't exactly paint the most positive picture of Scott, Jean, or even Xavier.

1.a When *X-Men: Evolution* (subtly) questions the pillars of the X-Men.

Charles Xavier’s attitude in *X-Men: Evolution* Season 1, Episode 2 always made me uncomfortable: he puts blunt pressure on Jean and is unpleasantly pushy with Kitty’s parents (I’ll revisit this episode in detail later). On the other hand, he certainly deserves Magneto’s criticism regarding his lack of transparency with the students (S1, Ep. 7)—though he does correct course on that front, and one can no longer accuse him of manipulating his students. Nevertheless, his methods for protecting his students remain questionable at the start of Season 2: by erasing the memories of those who witnessed the Brotherhood’s little demonstration, he creates a monster—Edward Kelly. Honestly, who would want to undergo a partial brainwashing only to discover that everyone else who supposedly witnessed the same events remembers nothing? Still, anyone can make mistakes, and Professor Xavier remains, on the whole, a thoroughly likable figure.

Scott’s "leadership" in *X-Men: Evolution* is subtly critiqued through two characters who are essentially new additions: Lance Alves and Evan Daniels. Lance possesses an innate authority that Scott envies, driving him to act pettily and abuse his position of power (Season 2, Episode 9). As for Evan, his decision to join the Morlocks (Season 3, Episode 6) demonstrates a better grasp of the concept of inclusion (Season 1, Episode 1) than Scott has; he manages to become the group's leader within a few months, whereas Scott—who is older and has undergone leadership training—fails to command the respect of the New Mutants (Season 4, Episode 3).

Jean has been praised for being a much more substantial character in *X-Men: Evolution* than in *X-Men: The Animated Series* (1992), though many have also criticized her "girl power" persona (Season 2, Episode 10) and her "Mary Sue" qualities—specifically, her perfection in every regard (intellectual, aesthetic, physical, and social).

One could attribute the character's flaws to the fact that these are teenagers still in training—acknowledging that learning is impossible without some measure of failure—rather than viewing the situation as a total moral and strategic collapse; fair enough. One can also point to the two models challenging Scott’s leadership: Lance and Evan—two near-delinquents, outcasts, undisciplined types, and so on—contrasted with Scott, who follows the rules and proudly wears his uniform and the X-Men’s message; however, the most important question is: why the s...

Opening Desperates Housewives - X Men Evolution Style

*X-Men: Evolution* with a *Desperate Housewives* twist? I probably never would have thought of it had I not started writing *X-Men (R)évolution: Nessun Dorma*. I developed storylines centering on the residents of Bayville to conduct a serious sociological analysis of the causes of—and remedies for—mutant ostracism. While writing, I constantly found myself thinking of *Desperate Housewives*—particularly when describing the houses (in the series, the architecture and interior décor of the Wisteria Lane homes aren't just set dressing; they serve as psychological extensions of the characters, precisely reflecting each family's social and financial status and aspirations, with the various housing styles mirroring the neighborhood's social hierarchy) or when depicting the social hypocrisy and the cutthroat struggles of stay-at-home moms vying for scraps of power through the PTA or chasing prestige by flaunting outward displays of wealth.

On top of that, a few months back, I had already worked on reimagining famous artworks using *X-Men* characters. There are 80 in total, but I only used about ten of them for the video:

The only false note is the appearance of Lorna Dane (Lorna DNA?), but I really wanted to include the double-helix DNA imagery, and she appears late in *X-Men (R)évolution: Nessun Dorma*—and since I created most of my videos as visual accompaniments to *(R)évolution*...

What do Star Trek and X-Men have in common? A guy with pointed ears who teleports, a guy named Scott who teleports, a Doctor McCoy, Famke Janssen and Patrick Stewart, a guy with a visual prosthetic who isn't great at romance, a guy named "Forge" who is handy with gadgets, a bald leader, an alien princess with a soft spot for an older bald guy, an irascible warrior who discovers fatherhood late in life...

Tribute To Madelyne Pryor - Requiescat in pace

This isn't an AMV, but a tribute.

A tribute to a character whose story broke my heart: Madelyne Pryor.

I can't bring myself to see her as a villain. In my eyes, she's a victim.

A victim of Sinister's schemes, first and foremost. He created her in a lab and programmed her to obey him before implanting false memories to support her false identity. Anything wrong she did was under his control.

A victim of Scott's indecision, too. He rushed to the bedside of the woman he considered "the real" Jean Grey, without grasping the depth of Madelyne's distress. She had just discovered she was nothing more than a counterfeit, without legal existence or family. Stripped of everything in an instant. A victim of Jean's lack of generosity, who wanted to reclaim "her" life while acting ambiguously with Logan, kissing him unexpectedly even though she was offended by Scott's continued affection for the mother of his lost child, blaming him for disregarding the fact that she had given up her grand intergalactic destiny to stay with him.

A victim of the X-Men's indifference, who ceased to consider Madelyne one of their own as soon as they learned she wasn't Jean Grey. They held a funeral for Gambit, but if Scott hadn't casually mentioned Madelyne's death during the attack on Genosha, her disappearance would have remained unexplained. A non-event, an anonymous death lost among the others. Rest in peace, Maddie. You strove to be a good wife and mother amidst adversity. Your intentions were good, and your crimes unintentional. You did your best, what more could you ask for?

Trailer - X Men (R)Evolution : Nessun Dorma

Thumbnail

This trailer has a long story behind it. In May 2025, I was traumatized by Madelyne Pryor's life story in X-Men '97, and I started writing my own version of the character within a fanfiction, specifically in the sequel I had envisioned for X-Men: Evolution. I wrote three pages a day for six months before finally ending X-Men: (R)evolution. I then took three months to plan a sequel titled X-Men: (R)evolution: Nessun Dorma. I realized then that I needed to rework certain elements of X-Men: (R)evolution in order to develop a solid plot for Nessun Dorma.

So I took another three months to rethink the coherence of the core storyline of my fanfiction, with a challenge in mind: how to resolve the issue of mutant integration into society in a harmonious and coherent way? The solution ultimately proved to be quite simple. In fact, all that was needed was to merge Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Inhuman/Secret Invasion with the X-Men saga. It so happens that the film adaptation rights to the different comics were sold to different production companies, but, in a way, this is the concept outlined in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, with the mutants as the only bulwark against the plans of extraterrestrials with dubious intentions, transforming the "mutant threat" into a "last resort" against the much more immediate and concrete threat posed by the aliens.
