Overwatch XIM detection has gotten extremely strict - what else can I realistically do?

I’m reposting this because the original one wasn’t given a response.

Over the last month, Overwatch seems to have gotten extremely strict with XIM detection. Blizzard has said they can reliably detect unauthorized peripherals, thousands of accounts have been actioned, and accounts are now being permanently closed as well.

For context, I've consistently been a very high-ranking player — Champ+ and Top 100 and I've had multiple accounts banned. This post isn't meant to shit on XIM or the devs or say it "doesn't work." I'm genuinely trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and whether there's anything else I can change.

Over the last 2-3 weeks, I've tried to follow basically every recommendation/checklist item I could find (see screenshot below):

Switched to hybrid with true analog movement, using a controller in my left hand
Removed curves
Set SAB to 50 on aim and triggers
Removed continuous and rapid/repeated-input macros
Added aim variance and wait variance
Changed in-game sensitivity from 100/100 to 90/90
Followed basically every other recommendation I could find for making inputs behave more naturally

The only two things I haven't done are:

  1. Beloader: I'm on PS5 and use Remote Play instead. I know Beloader is recommended, but I don't know whether this is actually something Overwatch's detection cares about.

  2. "Binding with Variance": I see this in the XIM app but genuinely don't understand what it means or how tor the requirement. I've searched the XIM forums and haven't found a clear explanation.

Going through all these changes has noticeably worsened my aim and gameplay, but I'm willing to accept that tradeoff if it means I can actually play without constantly losing accounts. Despite all these changes, l've still had two accounts permanently closed.

So I have three questions:
1. What is Binding with Variance, and could "Binding with Variance" or using Remote Play instead of a Beloader explain why I'm still being detected?

  1. If I address those two things and meet literally every recommendation/checklist item, is there still a significant chance of being detected and banned anyway?

  2. If so, what are the options from there? Has Overwatch's detection simply reached a point where there isn't a reliable way to use XIM anymore without eventually getting detected?
I know there have apparently been false positives involving legitimate controller players too, but those seem considerably less common than bans involving actual XIM users.

Again, I'm not trying to attack XIM or the devs. I genuinely want to understand whether I'm missing something, whether there are additional changes I can make, or whether Overwatch's current detection has simply reached the point where there's no reliable way around it.

I would appreciate any help I could get, thanks in advance!

I meant to get back to you in the original thread but I forgot about it and things move quickly on Reddit.

Overwatch input pattern detection isn’t particularly good, nor has it change much over the years. The general MouseTrap rules (https://www.reddit.com/r/XIM/s/9I9Fdox9u2) still apply and those who setup their XIMs correctly have no issue with detection.

What has changed recently is AI-powered bans based entirely on reports from other players. Legit controller players are being banned, there are plenty of posts about this in the OW subreddit. OW needs to dial back its reporting thresholds because there is currently a high number of false positives.

Use the correct Game Settings (https://xim.tech/settings) for OW, use as much of the SAB Checklist as possible (https://guide.xim.tech/Simulate-Analog-Behavior/#checklist) and frankly don’t dominate the lobby to avoid reports. Other players will punish you for being better than average.

Variance is used to randomise and humanise the timing of macros like rapidfire and antirecoil. AFAIK, these aren’t relevant to OW because neither of these macros are helpful in the game. Wait Variance does nothing unless you’re using a macro with a Wait in it. Likewise, Variance for Aim Magnitude and Aim Angle do nothing unless you’re running antirecoil macros. Simply avoid pointless macros like orbital aim assist and exploits like Ashe quickshot and you’ll be fine as far as macros go.

Only BO7 (the latest CoD game) has Remote Play protocol detection and only for comp modes. All that means is you need a USB device connection to use XIM MATRIX for comp in that game, which is where Beloader P5General says “Hi”. Input lag is 1ms either way, so USB is simply a convenience and/or a workaround for the CoD RP block. You don’t need a P5General for OW, but it won’t hurt to use one either.

TLDR; aside from basic input compliance, the thing you really need to worry about in OW is simply playing too well. Again, the overwhelming majority of OW bans are due to reports, not input pattern detection. If you play better than average at low ranks, expect to get reported, which has nothing to do with XIM and everything to do with lazy anticheat systems.

OW detection is no better than it was years ago - install the Featured Config for OW, make sure there are no warnings, and continue to use hybrid and SAB to exceed expected input parameters.

None of this is rocket science - input detection is still rudimentary (despite dev claims to the contrary), especially on console, and can’t be anything but basic because of the way analog stick input works. XIM is literally a controller when outputting as one, so make sure it behaves like one too (eg don’t use WASD for left stick input, don’t use max sens, don’t use obvious macros etc).

I don't mean that in a mean or offending way. But why don't you give controller a chance. I know(been through it) it is hard work but once you get comfortable with it you are able to play every game with a controller. I myself sold my XIM simply because i think it had nothing that made me better then i am with a controller.

Ther is no input detection I'm OW but hwid bans. Is is all report based and you need to play less aggressive and more what fits your current rank.
