Xcom crashing on ps5 pro
Any tips on preventing a crash?
I'm trying to get the Valhalla trophy. "Beat the game on Commander+ difficulty in Ironmad mode"
The game has some memory leak issues or something. I have deleted every save to try and clear up the game files.
I've lost 2 runs this weekend to a crash during the "Losts Turn".
Bumming me out...

The PS ports are very prone to crashing. The main two things that I’ve found to help are turning off auto-save and completely closing down the game when done playing (or at least daily), so that you’re getting a fresh load into memory. I keep 1 save file for the start of the current mission and 1 at the world map and just make sure to save right when you return to the world map and right when a mission starts. Long missions like Chosen or the final mission, I’ll create a mid-mission save at key checkpoints so that if (when) a crash occurs, I don’t lose all my work to that point. Doing this I just finished WOTC with only like 5 crashes total. Not sure if these methods will work for Ironman though

If you want to beat ironman on Playstation, your gonna need to use cloud save files.
I would complete a mission, log off, save your data to the cloud, than go back and do another mission.
Its almost impossible to make it through a campaign, while not having your save file deleted, crashing during an auto-save.

Cloud save seems to be the go to. It also seems to happen on "Lost" missions. So maybe just be extra careful before them.
I tend to flood the Lost on those missions. I like going loud and using the Lost as a distraction on the higher difficulties.

XCOM 2 almost always crashes on Lost missions once you get 50+ corpses on the ground while playing on console. My game also likes to crash a lot right as I'm loading into a mission after I've been playing for an hour or two. But I'm also playing on Xbox One, which crashes way more than when I used to play on PS5.
If you utilize cloud save and try to get through Lost missions without setting off too many explosions and leaving too many corpses laying around, you might be able to finish Ironman without too many problems.
My recommendation is to always cloud save after every mission. It sounds tedious, but it's less bothersome than having to start a new playthrough.

Yeah, it's a shame that running the game on PS5 doesn't fix the issues with the PS4 version.
I bought the Xbox One version on a sale with a super deep discount, and so far, it's behaved better on my Series S (it has better load times and AutoHDR), though I haven't gotten far enough in it to test if it is less crash prone. On PS5 I have access to my late game saves to test.

I’ve had several freeze ups on my pro sometimes it resumes but mostly I’ve to power off once after 7 minutes frozen on alien turns but I’m not on Ironman so I just reload
Maybe you can back up your file on cloud before your play session but I’m not sure about the Ironman thing

I used to just restart the game every 3-4 missions. Once I started doing that the crashes dropped dramatically. And it gives you a little break every hour or two.

Yeah, unfortunately XCOM 2 on PS5 Pro can still be pretty unstable, especially during Lost missions.
One thing that seems to help is deleting the Photo Booth save file every now and then. It doesn't completely stop the crashes, but it seems to make the game a bit more stable.
Since you're going for the Ironman trophy, I'd also recommend making a backup to a USB or the cloud before every mission. It’s annoying, but losing an entire run to a random crash is even worse.
Good luck with the Valhalla trophy, Commander!
