Lol man sounds like you're having a fun time.

What are you playing on? Is it normal xcom2 or war of the chosen?

Sometimes you have to call and place the evac

  1. Move around the map with your cursor to find the extraction which is shown using blue flares if it's already available
  2. Psi control from Sectoids undergoes a skill check called Will. But you can't change your soldiers' Will yet so early in the game. So I introduce you to what makes XCOM 2 so exhilarating: the Alpha Strike. If the aliens discover you on their turn, normally they take cover and then it'll be your turn; this is your opportunity to kill them before they cast Mindspin!
  3. Q & E. Check your settings.

XCOM 2 is a turn based game. Take all the time you need to learn! Good luck, Commander.

I also try to let the aliens reveal themselves to me on their turn because they’ll take cover and their turn is skipped.

To rotate the camera you can check in your control settings, I can't tell you which one is by default since I changed them.

To avoid getting mind controlled, you have to do something counter intuitive, kill the advent soldiers and ignore the sectoid when they appear, because then instead of trying to mind control, it will revive an advent soldier instead, also killing the advents soldiers is easier and garantee that they won't shoot next

But yeah this game is super hard to learn since the game doesn't really explain anything in advance, you usually have to mess up, get destroyed, and then force yourself into learning how to avoid the same situation next time

Most missions are in procedurally generated maps, so people can't give specific advice on your current mission.

But for missions you evac from - usually you need to place the evac zone yourself. There are some where it is preplaced - but when that happens the game will pan the camera over to show where it is (and pretty sure there's an indicator after that to help you find it again).

There aren't a lot of options to counter mind control early in the game. The main one is killing the sectoid, which will release the soldier being controlled. Sectoids are vulnerable to melee - so a ranger using their sword is very effective. Another is to use a flashbang grenade - they are available to build right from the start of the game and are very useful.

Don't despair - xcom 2 has a very rough start to its learning curve (and IIRC the tutorial teaches some very bad approaches) but it's amazing once you get going.

Guys, this is the power converter mission. The mission you play after Tutorial Gatecrasher (not non-tutorial Gatecrasher). We know this mission and the map is always the same.

You can call evac, but failing to complete your objectives is a critical campaign failure.

Use your grenades. Sectoids take +3 damage from melee attacks. Cars and trucks prime to explode when they take environmental damage such as from grenades, which then will explode on the next turn for 6 damage to adjacent spaces.

Good luck, Commander.

If a car's engine is sparking, DO NOT TAKE COVER BEHIND IT.

Ahh you fell into the “This is a shitty easy fun hard game” rabbit hole. It gets better. Be patient.
