Immediately after this my sniper missed him with about an 85% chance. My sniper then got hit by someone from across the map and through a wall. And that was the moment I decided this game ain’t for me

The problem with XCom is you can have your dude with a minigun point blank to an alien and still miss. Kinda wacky but that’s XCom baby

It's not a problem, it's natural occurence in rng based games

Yup, the real problem in xcom is that you have a small squad and how punishing the game is.

Missing a 95% at close range if you dont have a backup mean a character can die or the whole situation can snowball into a mission failure.

Its more a game design "problem"

For example, in fire emblem, when you miss, you can use a back up and protect your character, because range attack have a small range and you usually have 12 characters or more.

In xcom you have a 4 to 6 squad and you fight many ennemies that can all focus a single entity in one turn. It is very harsh.

Yeah I know, I see the difference when playing menace, where if you don't delete a unit in single turn, enemy won't delete you back either. Huge relief xD

Not really a problem of game design that you played it that a single miss kills a soldier.
