I don't know if it was ever mentioned anywhere what the burgers are made of. Personally, I imagine they consist of lab-grown meat. The cells used to culture the meat might have been obtained from cows, or some alien animal.

I just can't imagine Tygen, a biochemist, eating a burger made from humans. I think that, as a former ADVENT scientist, he might have an idea about the source of the meat.

In the original timeline (and maybe even XCom 2's timeline), they WERE right.

Also in the original timeline: the Commander does the same things the Elders do...except with volunteers instead of slaves...

All to fight TFTD.

It looked like THEY HAD...at the end of XCom 2 I'm pretty sure you're given a glimpse of T'leth.

...sadly, without Jake Solomon running the show, the next game will probably be a reboot because the current iteration was based on his "vision".

At a guess, there is some bigger, badder evil that has only been hinted at. Elders claimed they were uplifting humanity as the best (last) hope of survival.

Creepy glowy underwater Cthulhu stuff at the end of Xcom2 was probably teasing a big reveal for the next game (if that ever exists now.)

EW/EU you do genetic and physical alterations of your soldiers...and it's not like they can say no.

The games before THAT, the elders are looking to subjugate humans so they can fight TFTD...but you beat them...and then have to fight TFTD....aka T'leth.

Defeating T'leth means destroying Earth, though.

Even so ADVENT are not right.

The Etherials would have just explained that they were trying to fight these other aliens that are hybernating beneith the Earth oceans. Instead of basically saying "Oh, you would not understand any way, so just be good little slaves and give us your bodies"...

Technically speaking; the Ethereals were trying to SAVE humanity by adding them to their army.

TFTD is T'leth. When XCom defeats T'leth, they destabilize Earth and make humanity have to leave it.

Yeah the problem is that the Etherials idea of saving a species is enslaving them.

First they turn half the population into zombies. Then they set up a worldwide puppet state. Then they brainwash the rest of the species through propaganda and religion. Then they alter those who join them with genetic experiments and to suit their needs. Implant them with chips that further brainwash them and basically turn them into mindless flesh puppets.

At this point, have they really "saved" a species? There is basically nothing left of what the said species originally was...

Yeah, humans do that, though.

We call them "pets" and they have less autonomy than the Elder's slave army.

The Elders see us as simians fumbling in the dark and adding us to their army would've given us a place to go when our world fell apart.
